Thanks. Everything pretty much went smooth. The only hard part of the whole process was getting the spanner nut off. Took me about 30 minutes of banging on the spanner wrench with a hammer. If you have the same issues as me, I would suggest taking out your washplate first and see if the splines are stripped to see if you need a new washplate. @@appliancepartspros It was a long drawn out war, and blood was shed. But the good guys won. Cabrio about 7 years old 5.3 cu foot so it was a $750 washer new 7 years ago, and the least expensive 5.3 I could find now was about $850, on sale .. and there there was the whole $50 haul away and $150 for the 5 year service contract (which I recommend), and in short over $1000 to replace and I cant afford that. So I figured the local appliance shop would probably try to get at least $600 from me for parts and labor and if I was going to put $600 into a $750 washer, I wouldn't do that and just buy a new washer instead -- which I cant afford. So, obviously, the logical thing to do, from a guys point of view is to buy whatever necessary parts and tools you need to do the job yourself, even if you have to spend $300 on tools -- you get to keep the tools. And if the total spent is less than what the repair shop would have cost you, YOU WIN. In short, the 7/16 bolt was frozen hard. Had to use the Dremel Mototool, the Dewalt keyhole saw, a pry bar, bolt cutters, fire .. acid ... nuclear bombs .. to destroy the agitator plate and then chisel all the plastic remaining off the metal sleeve inset in the agitator plate before I could drive the gear box out through the bottom of the washer -- which fortunately, that part went well. For for those of you that don't know there is a two-step process to putting the tub onto the shaft splines.People are having problems with the tub not seating all the way down. First you get the tub hole onto the splines and it'll sit but the threads for the nut will not pop out. You have to line up the second set of splines and shimmy it in. Took me a couple hours to figure it out messing with my old one and the tub. Hope this helps.
I also had to use a strong 1/2 torque driver to remove the center bolt wash plate bolt. Make sure to use something like WD-40 before you try to pound out the gearcase. Let it sit for about 20 mins. You can thank me later.
I am at that step now of putting the inner tub onto the spline, but I don't understand what you are saying. What do you mean by "You have to line up the second set of splines and shimmy it in." What second set of splines and what does shimmy it in mean? Thanks.

It's crazy they designed it like this. The part makes the washing machine not really worth repairing in my opinion. Mine is leaking and it seems you can't just replace the tub seal. Am I wrong?
We are trying to follow this video, but we are stuck at the motor rotor removal part. I guess I should say the motor rotor is stuck. Any suggestions on how to get that off? We’ve pulled out the screw, we’ve tried PB blaster, we’ve tapped it gently with a rubber mallet. The dang thing won’t budge.
That can get dirt and debris build up over time and can cause that issue. There isn't a trick to getting it out. You will just need to keep working at it to get to out.
Had a lot of trouble with the step as well. Was afraid of breaking the rotor. I managed to work it free with some patience and gentle persuasion from two wonder bar pry bars.
Hello!!! I just change the gearcase because the wash plate wasn't spining and was making a lot of noise but with the new one the wash plate still not spining there's no noise anymore but, it seems that the gear that makes the wash plate spin is stocked some how. Any adviced of what could be the problem? Thanks
@@appliancepartspros i found the problem the old rotor doesn't fit on the new gearcase so i had to order a new rotor once i get new rotor i'll see if it works. Thanks
I snapped the bolt off that holds the agitator plate down 😢 tried to get the broken bolt out with no luck. I ordered new gear case assembly 😶 can I take the tub out before I replace the assembly from the bottom?
Great video, but you're going to run into problems with old machines. My machine is 9 years old, I needed an impact driver to get the wash plate screw out, and ended up have to cut/chip out the wash plate, as after 9 years of heavy use, the metal connection between the gear case and the wash plate had corroded together. (I cracked the wash plate plastic from pulling up on it with metal hooks.) But new wash plate and new gearbox have gotten it back up and running and it is super quiet once again.
This error code indicates the shifter is not engaging the basket for spin or disengaging it for wash. Check shifter connectors. Check for clothing or another item wedged between the impeller and the basket that could bind them together. Check that the shifter slider moves freely. If all that checks ok, then you will need to locate the tech sheet on the unit and run the diagnostic tests to determine which part has failed.
You may need to try using a car jack to push the agitator out of the tub. I had to do this since I could not hammer out the plate like the video. Check out a video by these guys for the removal / replacement of a drive shaft and bearings for a Ken more washer.
It looks like the inner basket seal is on the new pump but not on the old one that came out. (Probably stuck in the basket still) Should the old seal have been removed from the inner basket first?
@@robc87561 same, not the "seal" but the "washer." didn't come out with the transmission and wash jammed in flush to the base of the wash basket. I didn't notice initially, but when I placed the wash basket back in the tub, I couldn't get the spanner nut back on. Once I realized the washer was jammed in there, it was very difficult to get out. Once I got it out, the basket slipped in without a problem. Wondering if I could have left the old one in and removed the new one off the new part!
It's only meant to show proper disassemble and assemble. We're all going to run into different obstacles which they can't possibly make every video about. That's where your own critical thinking skills apply.
Does the Gasket on the transmission sit below the plastic bin or do you have to push the gasket partially through the hole? I see he uses soap on the Gasket but does not show how it should be when properly installed. Help!
Is there a bearing and seal kit with installation tool available for these models. The price of this gearcase plus labour exceeds the value of my 6 year old Whirlpool Cabrio.
I think it is so that when you insert the new gear case you aren't trying to align the shaft with the hole in the basket, which will be moving around. With that said, I am going to try it without doing that!
Wondered as well. I decided to trust the Pro on this. I think it allows everything to line up right when installing the transmission from the bottom. If the tub shifts off to the side while you are inserting the transmission from the bottom (machine laying on it's side), you won't be able to get the transmission in correctly.
No matter what you hit with the rubber hammer the 4 screws will do the Job, so why hit with the hummer? Their gearcase has a shaft and that came too short for my washer and the basket doesn't allow the spinner nut hold into the tread. Now those people are asking thousand things to replace the part.
Where do you get that spanner?
What is your model number?
Does the machine require recalibration after this fix?
What is the model number of your washer and we can look into this for you.
No. Nothing. I did mine with Sears part that fit perfectly. Washer works like new, only a little leak on the back and I don't know what is.
Hello!!! I just change the gearcase because the wash plate wasn't spining and was making a lot of noise but with the new one the wash plate still not spining there's no noise anymore but, it seems that the gear that makes the wash plate spin is stocked some how. Any adviced of what could be the problem? Thanks
What is your model number?
@@appliancepartspros i found the problem the old rotor doesn't fit on the new gearcase so i had to order a new rotor once i get new rotor i'll see if it works. Thanks
You're welcome!
Motor rotor will not slide off after removing screw. Used nut off. Any suggestions?
It could have some build up around it that is causing it to get stuck. You can try penetrating oil and just keep working at it to get it off.
I snapped the bolt off that holds the agitator plate down 😢 tried to get the broken bolt out with no luck. I ordered new gear case assembly 😶 can I take the tub out before I replace the assembly from the bottom?
If you have room and want to have it removed before the gear case gets there then you should be able to remove that tub out if you wanted to.
Can the transmission be rebuilt or just shaft seal replaced? My transmission is # W10006499

do you need to calibrate washer before using ????????
No, it doesn't look like the unit needs to be calibrated before using.
Can you tell me what Spinner wrench to buy for whirlpool cabrio washer wtw8040dw4
It doesn't appear that you would have to use a spanner wrench to get that nut out of your washer.
Glad you were able to fix your issue! If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
Hi, I have a Maytag model number: 7MMVW7230LC0, the washing machine have a error F7E4 , I have to reemplace this part? Can I help me?
This error code indicates the shifter is not engaging the basket for spin or disengaging it for wash.
Check shifter connectors.
Check for clothing or another item wedged between the impeller and the basket that could bind them together.
Check that the shifter slider moves freely.
If all that checks ok, then you will need to locate the tech sheet on the unit and run the diagnostic tests to determine which part has failed.
I'm having trouble getting the agitator plate off. Yours looked alot cleaner than mine
You guys need to use heavily used appliances for these videos. This is totally unrealistic
Or at least tell us what additional issues we could run into. Like how to remove a stuck impeller.
@@soulawakeningllc8242 buy new impeller and hammer /break off old impellar
Yes. I had to use whote vinegar and a toothbrush to remove the spanner ring, and to clean both it and the inner shaft in order to mount the basket.
It's only meant to show proper disassemble and assemble. We're all going to run into different obstacles which they can't possibly make every video about. That's where your own critical thinking skills apply.
@@JohanSalvattoresounds like this guy should just hire someone.
Does the Gasket on the transmission sit below the plastic bin or do you have to push the gasket partially through the hole? I see he uses soap on the Gasket but does not show how it should be when properly installed. Help!
The seal will slide into the opening on the tub.
When inserted, the gasket will be pretty much flush with the base of the wash tub as you are looking into the machine from the top.
Is there a bearing and seal kit with installation tool available for these models. The price of this gearcase plus labour exceeds the value of my 6 year old Whirlpool Cabrio.

You would have to change out the whole gearcase. It doesn't appear that you would be able to replace just the bearing and seal.
@@appliancepartspros Thanks for the quick reply. I really appreciate it
You are welcome. If there is anything we can help you with in the future please let us know.
you forgot to mention those gearcase leaks by the seal rubber ing
Thank you for the information!
So what's the point in removing the inner tub?? I'm confused.
Short arms😂… I wondered the same.
I think it is so that when you insert the new gear case you aren't trying to align the shaft with the hole in the basket, which will be moving around. With that said, I am going to try it without doing that!
You don’t have too. I didn’t and it worked fine. Maybe just a little easier to get the gearcase in.
Wondered as well. I decided to trust the Pro on this. I think it allows everything to line up right when installing the transmission from the bottom. If the tub shifts off to the side while you are inserting the transmission from the bottom (machine laying on it's side), you won't be able to get the transmission in correctly.
Do these contain grease or oil inside?
Yes they do. If you're experiencing oil leaks, the gearcase is likely going bad.
@@appliancepartspros What type of oil or grease do they contain? Thank you for your response.

What kind glue for sealing?
You shouldn't have to use any kind of glue for sealing.
No matter what you hit with the rubber hammer the 4 screws will do the Job, so why hit with the hummer? Their gearcase has a shaft and that came too short for my washer and the basket doesn't allow the spinner nut hold into the tread. Now those people are asking thousand things to replace the part. If the customer tells them the part is bad, why not send a post-paid ticket for return and send a new unit without so many stupid forms, questions, troubles for the customers? I had a lot of trouble with this step, too. Turns out that there is a washer in between the wash tub and the transmission splines. A new washer was on the Transmission out of the box and the old one was unknowingly stuck in the base of the wash tub. I am pretty sure that it was not on the "old transmission" shown in the video. Adding a step to check for the old washer would make this video 10 out of ten.
It doesn't worth the pain to replace those parts, buy their parts, and get involve in so many troubles with those people to change the wrong parts they send you. Better buy a new one. I just bought a new washer for $700, brand new with one year warranty from the store, free shipping and installed. ten years warranty from company: Of course, not the same Brand. I tried to repair this Kenmore 600S and I just spend $240 plus all the pain to replace this and now the part is a wrong one, so tried to figure out HOW MUCH TROUBLE FOR WHAT?

When I order the Drive Assembly does it have the Trust Washer installed on it? My schematic shows a trust washer just above the drive assembly, on my Kenmore 600s Washer 110.20372711…

It doesn't appear that you would have to use a spanner wrench to get that nut out of your washer.
My setup looks identical to yours it’s great you don’t think I need the wrench, how would I remove it if not with the Spanner wrench
You can use a pipe wrench to remove that nut, but after looking into this further for you it does appear that it would require a spanner wrench if you couldn't use a pipe wrench. The part number for the spanner wrench you would be needing is AP6832671. Below is the link to that part for you to look at it.
