  • This is meant to be a followup video to my IG Live Replay video discussing the usage of the Cine Reflect Lighting System (CRLS). If you haven't watched those videos please check them out!
    In this video I walk through the setup of a tabletop shot using the reflectors and demonstrate physical manipulation and basic practices.
    More video discussing the system coming soon!

    Amazingly detailed. My initial thought was to go with the large reflector, but what you said makes absolute sense to have smaller reflectors creating smaller bursts of light. Thank you!

    Great intro to the system Barry, its really good to see the 'frame' as you work on it & inform us of your dissisions. Also love your lighting term Sunsplash, never come across that before & will be using it forthwith.

    Glad to see more content from you! That's funny, I just started researching this product a week ago and think I'll pick up a set and dive in.

    Thanks for the comprehensive setup breakdown. I've seen a few other posts on the CRLS and interesting how you can shoot with "more" light with less lighting, basically. I'm mainly a still guy who has done tons of food. Just yesterday I set up a "sunlight" test and used a 3x3 plexiglass mirror attached to a frame with a profoto strobe bounced up into the mirror. Same principle as the CRLS. You can achieve more spread with the mirror than with the strobe head alone and the light tends to resemble sunlight. Oh, and just bought the Aputure 300x which will arrive in a day or so...!

      Thanks for your comment! Yes, the efficiency is just one of the many things I love about it! Experimenting with plain mirrors and other reflective surfaces is how I went down the rabbit hole that led me to CRLS! I have a box full of various dollar store mirrors and other finds I still use in tabletop.

    Great stuff on the Aputure House Party last night Barry. These are perfect for tabletop! Can only seem to rent in the UK but will contact Lightbridge directly for a sale. Would be interested to see how you could use these for glasswork - things like spirit bottles / jam jars. Wonder what the highlights look like? can see some in the apples but it's tricky to be certain whether the spotting is down to imperfections in the apple surface or the size/quality of source. I guess a 36 degree spotlight and 100cm CRLS would be worth investigating for bottles.

    "Get really nutty." I get it. It's a joke. I got my basic CRLS starter pack in Dec. It came in real handy on a trip to Indonesia last month! Very intuitive.

    Good approach to the system though my only critique would have to be that the point of this is to use as less grip equipment as possible and I just though you gave yourself a hard time by using so many c-stands and grip arms. I think you could have used just 1 c-stand with a gobo head and multiple magic arms to make this same set-up way faster and more minimal. The Magic Arms would allow you to adjust the position of the reflectors way faster and easier.

    • @CineInThe6
      @CineInThe6  4 года назад

      Hi! Yes magic arms are a perfectly valid way to utilize these reflectors and a lot of other users like them. I'm still playing around, trying to find one I really like. I prefer C-stands, given the choice, because of the linear nature of how they work. If I need to trim the reflector, after the fact, I find it easier to subtly do that (by just tweaking one of the axis of the stand) vs loosening an arm and losing the position more dramatically. For me the point is really about lessening extraneous grip gear like flags, etc, so I'm used to working with C-stands in close proximity (especially with tabletop), despite it seeming cluttered. I'll use articulating arms more if I'm doing a smaller reflector inside, and inline, with a larger reflector. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment!
