You are a life saver! And I love the new ideas in this video. Your Zoom audio adjustment tips from an earlier video made my USB mic work--when I'd even wondered why I bought it. Now everyone in my weekly Zoom class can hear what I'm playing. I'm an amateur guitar teacher working through a local library. Thank you for making my guitar classes (offered free to our community) possible!
Excellent video. I was asked by a client to explain all the Zoom audio settings for music and I found sending them the link to this video and your webpage with the explanation was far more effective than what I could have done. Thank you.
I really had no idea how to do any of this. I wish all tutorials about recording, streaming, etc. that suddenly one needs to learn from were even half as clear and complete. Double thumbs up.
I just have to say your videos have helped me so much. i dont think ive seen videos as clear and easy to follow as these. Thank you for the work you put into putting your videos together.
Do you know how to share my screen with a DAW?, recently I share it for a student and try to reproduce the song(sharing screen), but he couldn't listen , he send me later how it sound and it was...nothing, it was like a distant sound, can you help me?
Thank you! I posted a link to this on 'The Art & Science of Sound Healing' FB page. Lots thanking me already! Even my own wife : ) Many have asked about better zoom settings and after some searching, I found your info the clearest and most up to date. Glad I found you!
Thank you so much for doing your videos. I have learned so much and have improved the quality of my fitness classes on Zoom. You are the best and your explanation is clear and easy to follow. I have watched so many videos and no one is as great as you are. I am not great with technology, but with your expertise, I have improved in a year immensely! My clients thank you too!
Very helpful. I am using the USB port from my Macki sound board then into my computer. I’ll be trying that with my class tomorrow. Thank you so much for all the help!
I wish this video had used a different title as I have been looking for this piece of information for almost a month and a half. I have gone through so many RUclips videos looking for searches regarding hissing, bad audio ,mumbling you name it I’ve searched it . Thank you so much for this video again you might want to include on your title keywords such as audio hissing, OBS to zoom audio fix, roadcaster pro. Thumbs up,👍
Wonderful! Thank you Music Repo, your explanation is clear and a very professional presentation. At last someone covering the audio since the updates! Thanks again.
It would appear you need the paid version of Zoom for some of the features you mention, such as “enable original sound for all users” and “enable stereo sound”. My wife’s paid account has those options. My own freebie account does not. Thanks for the video. Helpful.
Hi, you really don't. I have the free account and I am seeing all these settings ... but you do need the latest version of the app, so make sure you have updated 🤔
@@MusicRepo Ah, yes! You are correct! Slightly weird that on my wife’s laptop, it worked on her user ID, but on my user ID, I needed to update. All good now! Many thanks! 😀
Really good video. Thank you for your clear explanations. I wish Zoom would put meters to show the voume of your audio. When you share your audio, you have no idea no loud or soft the music is and how your participants are hearing it. I usually put my audio source at about 50% but there have been times I've been told it's still too loud.
Thanks for your comment. That is a good idea .... why not suggest it to Zoom? The music enhancements have been developed in response to requests from users
Great video. Have you considered doing a video on using a phone camera or webcam, mounted on a tripod or mic stand, to capture video for a music lesson? E.g an overhead view of the student and keyboard? Tips on choosing a mount and how to configure zoom for such use would be very helpful.
Great, informative vlog. Could you please do more on the tech side of collaboration? Surely there are musicians out there that would like to collaborate but are stuck not knowing the nuts and bolts of how and what to do.
Thank you very much I followed all you steps my sound is clearer and better ( DAY AND NIGHT) difference just one thing I cant get stereo sound. I use Zoom for Dj live sessions/Parties
I didn't know this before, about allow host to use stereo and original sound.Thats why I couldnt hear a stereo sound from my host..Thank you for the information! But when I join a meeting how I will adjust the original sound..?I may put it on on new meeting, but after to join I must close the screen and click on join..?this will garranty me that the original sound is on..?
Great video tutorial. Although I have trouble finding 9:16 'In Meeting Advanced settings' for the stereo option. I tried experimenting with another mobile device as guest, but visually there's a lot of visual latency, and I still can't hear my piano across the other device only my voice only when I turn on my interface speakers.
Thank you for this. To be clear, can one still take advantage of these high quality audio settings even if one is not the Host, and if yes, will the quality remain equally high?
I absolutely love your videos as they are so luminously clear. The planning and execution is superb. You are a born teacher and in my world I can offer no higher compliment. The graphic enhancements are perfect. I do have a question: I see that you use the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 and 4i4. Can you tell us how these differ from the 2i2 and if it is worth paying the extra cost? Thank you so much for these tutorials.
Thank you for your comments. The 4i4 has 2 additional line inputs on the rear and also MIDI in and out. The 2i4 has just the two combi inputs on the front. So you might want the additional inputs, but if not then the 2i2 would be fine. My older 2i4 is no longer available. That has only 2 audio inputs but also has MIDI. Hope that helps ☺️
Very informative. And very timely for me. One question. What does a student using a computer need to do on his/her Zoom meeting to have the best experience hearing the hi-def stereo audio from the music instructor's Zoom meeting? (Yes, they will quit all non-essential applications/folder/files, use a wired internet access or stay close to the router if it is WiFi access. The will also stop using other devices that use internet bandwidth.) Thanks.a lot.
Thank you so much. This was so helpful. can you clarify if I should use the High Fidelity or Stero. Is there a big difference in how the music will sound to the others through the computer. Also, my other question is, I hook my laptop up with my TV. Of course because it is much bigger. Should I set my speaker sound to be my TV? I usually use my remote to turn up the sound on the TV so I can really hear the music for my motivation. Does it affect what my students will hear. One more, I noticed that sometimes echo will be on the side of students, does that have something to do with my microphone? I know it is a lot, but thanks.
Thanks for your great tips on audio. Do you have any idea how to improve audio synchronization for fitness class. I tried using obs and capture sound from my mixer and add offset but to no avail. Thanks
When I share sound from my computer using the 'Music or Computer Sound Only' button in the Advanced setting of Zoom Screen share, does that sound come straight from the music file I'm playing, or come through my computer speakers? I ask because I'm using a MacBook Pro 2015 which has speaker crackle on some quiet iTune tracks I want to play in Zoom meetings (the speaker has already been replaced, problem has arisen again... grrr). And I wondered if the sound my client will hear through their speakers will be clear sound straight from my iTunes file, or if they'll hear my speaker intermittent crackle. Thanks so much for your videos! They're helping me to finally tackle my resistance to streaming and recording.
When I went to the zoom website, the setting for allowing users to turn on original sound is simply not there. I have updated my zoom as well. Very frustrating. The other setting for stereo is there, but not the original sound. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated!
H! Thank you for your video, it was so helpful. I'm wondering. If I adjust all the setting on my laptop, can i use the app on my phone and get the same quality?
Very helpful thank you! I'm still having problems with not hearing audio through headphones connected to my scarlett 2i4 while sharing youtube- I must have not connected the headphones correctly?
Make sure you have checked the monitor mix knob. If it is turned all the way so it plays only direct monitoring sound you won't hear the audio from your computer. Search for Using Direct Monitoring in the manual ... d2zjg0qo565n2.cloudfront.net/sites/default/files/focusrite/downloads/8174/scarlett2i4-user-guide.pdf
Advanced audio was very helpful for my zoom music gathering - I sounded great! :-). I have made changes in advanced audio for open mic music performances. If I have a video conference where people are just talking, a) should I turn off original sound? and your
I followed all your instructions, but was still getting a hollow sound. As a last resort I unplugged my logitec C 270 and then replugged it to reset it, like with a slow modem. That was the problem. Hope that's helpful. Thank you for your advice.
I still dream of the day when people can have freestyle jams in real time with other musicians all over the world. I think that would be genuinely revolutionary. Can you imagine? Whole other musical styles and cultures available to jam with at the touch of a button at any hour of the day or night, whenever the inspiration struck. The possibilites would be endless! Someone with some tech savvy needs to make that happen. I would happily give them my money. Just need to find a way to beat that pesky lag.
This is fantastic thank you. Your videos are wonderful and so clear.. so grateful that you have made these. When already using a USB mixer (thanks again for that tip) with that set as your mic source and using the "Enable Original Sound from microphone" feature? is it also necessary to "share computer sound". To date I've not but not sure if it will improve things further?
Thank you for a clear explanation. We are wanting to play music files at slower tempos during our Zoom choir rehearsals, but have experienced some distortion when slowing the audio file to the 60% to 70% range. What would you recommend to achieve better sound quality?
Thanks. I did do a video about adjusting the tempo of audio files here ruclips.net/video/JF1cnrWqjkI/видео.html You could share the audio via Zoom. However, if you go too far with slowing down, you will get some artefacts and unwanted sounds and effects whatever software you use to do it ....
Nor sure when this video was made - I do not see anything below Echo Cancellation (Auto) to check or uncheck. I do not see "show in meeting option to enable original sound from microphone." Is this a different/older version of Zoom?
Thanks so much. If I understand correctly, I can play/share a high quality audio file over a Zoom call in such a way that it will be audible to all participants in that call, while the main conversation continues unabated? Meaning, my audio track can be like a background track to the call? Thanks!
Thanks for the fabulous videos - really clear and straightforward. However, I am on Zoom update 5.4.9 which looks quite different so I was hoping you had some further advice. The 'high fidelity music mode' is on the front page of the audio settings (not in advanced) and there isn't a way to 'disable' the echo cancellation, rather you need to check the 'echo cancellation' box. The suppress background noise seems to be on auto with only options to choose low, medium, high so I am a bit confused as the what to disable / enable!! Could you please advise what the best settings would be in this latest update to be able to run classes without suppressing the background noise?
Thank you so much for your videos and site instructions. They have been incredibly helpful. I purchased a USB mixer and Shure headset. I’m afraid I’m not very tech savvy and have played quite a bit with the settings but I’m not able to hear the attendees (and they aren’t on mute lol). I’ve set up my mic and speaker as you suggest but still have this problem. Any suggestions?
Hello Music Repo and all, I would like your thoughts on the following question: I'm using version 5.5.4 (this is March 4, 2021), and for purposes of singing and playing my acoustic guitar or ukulele over Zoom (for retirement home residents, for instance), do you think it's better to 1) go with the "enable original sound" option, or 2) NOT use that "original sound" option, but rather just activate the "Low" option for noise suppression? I hope this question makes sense! Thanks! -Bill S.
Very informative. But is the Hi Fi setting 2 - way? So if I enable HiFi mode at my end (as teacher/host) do the students automatically hear me hifi mode or do they need to turn on hi fi mode as well at their end (as client)? And vice vera: if I want to hear my students in hifi mode - do they have to enable it their end?. After all we as teachers need to hear much better than is sometimes possible in zoom if we are to teach effectively. I guess it's also important that the student/client has downloaded the latest version with hifi mode. Thanks
Good question. The HiFi setting is for transmitting audio ... if you set it then your students should hear an improvement over the standard setting. They do not need to adjust their settings for listening to you. However, if you want them to hear your students using the enhanced settings then yes, they will need to set them. The main thing is to enable original audio so that when they play, the audio stream is not choppy. The HiFi is a nice to have, but obviously you need decent audio device and good broadband signal.
Your video states that you included links in the comment area for information on using Zoom for music lessons and such but I can’t see them, at least not while watching this on my iPad.
Hi there! Thank you for this helpful video. Can high fidelity music mode be on with an iPad? I can’t seem to find that option on the iPad. Only on a computer. I stream fitness classes. Thank you so much for your help.
Thank you. At the time it was the latest version ... but I am afraid I don't know which that was. If your Zoom doesn't look exactly like this, then most of the audio stuff is no longer hidden behind advanced. The settings are broadly the same though ...
You were a tremendous help for me! I would like to thank you. There is an even newer update, and it offers stereo sound. Also, may I have a question? I am a voice teacher, and one of my students does not have a head phone. But this way I can hear myself Co.ing back from her, I less she unchecks the original sound on the main screen. But then she does not use original sound... How could we eliminate hearing myself back? Is for her using a headphone is the only solution? Thanks in advance!
Hi, I suggest that under the advanced settings you do not disable echo cancellation. Try that and see if it helps. The other solution is to ask the student to try using headphones if possible. There is more about echo in meetings here on the Zoom site support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/202050538-Audio-Echo-In-A-Meeting
Thank you. What would be a good setup for online flute lessons and recitals? The voice and the flute don’t seem to work as well sharing one microphone when there is program commentary between pieces.
Will something like Logic Pro X be able to stay with a 44.1 setting even if Music Mode is on at 48 k or does using music mode mean that the Logic project has to be changed to 48k?
This is great info! I am so glad you posted it! I am however having trouble getting audio when I try to play a RUclips video through zoom. Clicked the computer audio box yet I don't get the audio. (Kind of critical if I need to play to the vid.)
Do you mean that you cannot hear computer sound (from RUclips) or that the attendees cannot hear your computer sound. If the latter, you must use Share Screen and click on its option "Share computer sound", having selected the screen or app whose video you wish to share. If no video needs to be shared, then from Share Screen, select the Advanced tab and then "Music or Computer Sound only". In both cases, click on the Share button to start sharing. If the former, then you must have a settings issue in your device.
When I click on the settings and advanced settings, I don't have the same options show up. are there different versions of zoom? If so, which are you using? I have the paid version, but am still having some issues. Thank you for your very helpful information!!
Great presentation, thanks very much. Nevertheless Im a a bit confused.... you said to make sure I turn ON Original sound but every time I click on "turn on original sound" it switches to "turn off original sound".... so what am I missing here?
First of all - thank you - finally got the delay from piano fixed to be in sync with the sound! However - new problem The sound is now coming out of my ipad n not my laptop! What have I done wrong n how can I fix it please? Thank you
I have a question, I cannot find my account setting under my account management box to set up my Zoom for stereo audio. Could you help me with that? Why is this box missing? Is it because I'm using the free verion and I need to upgrade? Thank you very much for all the information! It's really helpful for all of us! Kind regards!
Was waiting for this video, thank you! Do you have any advice with all of this in mind and routing audio from a DAW like Logic to Zoom? I need to add effects and add a lot of gain to my mic for it to be in a place out of the way but can still pick up my voice when I talk. Not sure if that all would be in mono or stereo with my Scarlett 2i2 as well. Thanks again!
Is the music mode further optimized if the students download the Zoom client vs. just accessing Zoom via a web browser? Thanks so much for all this info!
I found it very interesting but 1) could have done with more of an audible pause from you after each step rather than having to pause the video. Maybe you could just repeat the instruction agian after each pause as well - for confirmation 2) I am not sure if everything that was supposed to show up did - I have an apple mac. So when there was supposed to be something showing under the 'echo cancellation' box when I first clicked 'Advanced', it wasn't there - it was back on the previous screen. 3) You said it was important to have 'turn on original sound' showing green at the top left - this confused me because i could not see how to STOP it showing! 4) Also you said that at any time during the meeting you could look at your 'audio settings again - I couldn't see how to do this!

Thank you for a clear explanation. We are wanting to play music files at slower tempos during our Zoom choir rehearsals, but have experienced some distortion when slowing the audio file to the 60% to 70% range. What would you recommend to achieve better sound quality?
Thanks. I did do a video about adjusting the tempo of audio files here ruclips.net/video/JF1cnrWqjkI/видео.html
You could share the audio via Zoom. However, if you go too far with slowing down, you will get some artefacts and unwanted sounds and effects whatever software you use to do it ....
@@MusicRepo Thanks for your quick reply, I'll try using Audacity and pay attention to using the higher quality algorithm.
Ooooh Yeaaaa 👏 This is very helpful 👌😎👍
Glad it was helpful! 🙏😀🎵
Nor sure when this video was made - I do not see anything below Echo Cancellation (Auto) to check or uncheck. I do not see "show in meeting option to enable original sound from microphone." Is this a different/older version of Zoom?
Please, to record a video playing Yamaha Sv250 violin. What equipment do you suggest? Thks a lot
Thanks so much. If I understand correctly, I can play/share a high quality audio file over a Zoom call in such a way that it will be audible to all participants in that call, while the main conversation continues unabated? Meaning, my audio track can be like a background track to the call? Thanks!
yes, that is exactly right. have a practice with a friend ...
@@MusicRepo Thanks, will do!
Very very useful!
Hello Music Repo and all, I would like your thoughts on the following question:
I'm using version 5.5.4 (this is March 4, 2021), and for purposes of singing and playing my acoustic guitar or ukulele over Zoom (for retirement home residents, for instance), do you think it's better to 1) go with the "enable original sound" option, or 2) NOT use that "original sound" option, but rather just activate the "Low" option for noise suppression? I hope this question makes sense! Thanks! -Bill S.
Great video thank you! Are there any services like Skype or other where there is not latency?
@@MusicRepo Thanks Jane for that.
Very good. Well done. Does "check" mean "tick" or "look to see what's going on"?
Oh, gosh, it was a while ago I made this. I suspect it would mean 'tick'
Your video states that you included links in the comment area for information on using Zoom for music lessons and such but I can’t see them, at least not while watching this on my iPad.
But in the suppres background noise is saying put to low for optimise in music..Why you let it on auto..?And the echo cancellation on auto also?
This was great! Thank you :)
Hi there! Thank you for this helpful video. Can high fidelity music mode be on with an iPad? I can’t seem to find that option on the iPad. Only on a computer. I stream fitness classes. Thank you so much for your help.
Glad it helpes. No, it's a desktop setting, not available on iPad
Love your videos! I did have a question: in this video what version of Zoom are you using? Thanks!
Thank you. At the time it was the latest version ... but I am afraid I don't know which that was. If your Zoom doesn't look exactly like this, then most of the audio stuff is no longer hidden behind advanced. The settings are broadly the same though ...
@@MusicRepo Thank you!
If you have the free version of zoom are you still able to adjust the audio for say a soundbath ?
Wonderful/ My Only Question is this only in Zoom Pro?
No, I made this video in the free version ...
perfect video!!
This is great info! I am so glad you posted it!
I am however having trouble getting audio when I try to play a RUclips video through zoom. Clicked the computer audio box yet I don't get the audio. (Kind of critical if I need to play to the vid.)
Make sure you have checked the box at the bottom of the share screen where it says share computer sound
@@MusicRepo Yep, sure have
Do you mean that you cannot hear computer sound (from RUclips) or that the attendees cannot hear your computer sound.
@@tomholden7551 I got it work by resetting the interface. I exhausted the previous suggestions. Thanks.
When I click on the settings and advanced settings, I don't have the same options show up. are there different versions of zoom? If so, which are you using? I have the paid version, but am still having some issues. Thank you for your very helpful information!!
Check you have updated to latest version ... Zoom doesn’t seem to prompt you to update you have to manually check for updates.
Great presentation, thanks very much. Nevertheless Im a a bit confused.... you said to make sure I turn ON Original sound but every time I click on "turn on original sound" it switches to "turn off original sound".... so what am I missing here?
It is confusing isn’t it! If it says “Turn Off Original Sound” then that is good ... you are using original sound. That is the setting you want
First of all - thank you - finally got the delay from piano fixed to be in sync with the sound!
However - new problem
The sound is now coming out of my ipad n not my laptop!
I wonder if this video will help you? ruclips.net/video/OmJUOkf0kE4/видео.html
Is the music mode further optimized if the students download the Zoom client vs. just accessing Zoom via a web browser? Thanks so much for all this info!
No, I don't it won't make any difference how your students access your Zoom lessons.
I understand totally. Writing it down just helped me to remember.
