recommend getting a usb gigabit network adapter. It will allow for higher bandwidth and should help a lot with the lag from streaming.

I have a stock standard i5 laptop with integrated Intel 4000 graphics using steam streaming. Well actually it's not stock I put 8GB ram in it and a SSD, but that's irrelevant for streaming.
1920x1080 60fps didn't work with hardware acceleration enabled on the gaming rig but
1920x1200 60fps works with hardware acceleration.
The frame rate was perfectly butter smooth, couldn't catch a stutter as hard as I tried (playing Dirt 3).
The issue I had though was the Sony Bravia was buffering a few frames ahead and inserting frames up to 100Hz, making a lot of input lag as the picture was always a few frames behind what my laptop was outputting!!! Before you say it, the Bravia wasn't masking any stuttering fps through the streaming, the PC running the game was pegged at 60fps the whole time.

Technically this isn't a "Steam Box" since it uses Nvidia's GameStream tech. A Steam Box works with a lot more GPUs and I found it had less problems playing games like Spelunky. I even had Steam's streaming working with a $40 Windows 8.1 tablet which only had the onboard GPU built into the Intel Baytrail-T Z3735D. It worked fine for most games that didn't need precision timing. The only downside for that was it only worked with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and I didn't have a USB Ethernet adapter to see if that reduced some of the lag.

I just had to come and say it, you must now attempt to cut cheese with the pi while streaming a video game.
Great video! Came from your TWiCH show.
I would have pointed out a little clearer why you're doing the Limelight instead of Steam Link, due to the ARM processor in the Pi and there not being an ARM compiled version of Steam. Otherwise great!

The new Geforce Experience does not even have those tabs shown @2:34.

Well I guess the great thing about the raspberry pi is that you can do a bunch of other things, too, instead of just being able to stream games. Good video. I didn't think it would be this easy but as an user of an amd graphics card it doesn't seem to be possible for me :D

Possibly Unsafe while some may work, it's not advised to use a cellphone charger, as it'll usually supply only 500/100mAh (depending on the manufacturer) to devices not able to negotiate the current needed, or even not the same brand/model they were produced for.
Instead, one should use a dedicated PSU like the one found on the official stores.
That said, nice work, I'm resharing it with a clean/encouraging comment :)

I think I have got it working now. Running the latest version of Raspbian, Moonlight-embedded, Sixad, Sixpair and two Dualshock 3 controllers. Any tips for the auto launch script? I currently need my pc to be before powering on the Raspberry Pi and shutting down requires me to ssh into the pi. It runs just fine on the Raspberry Pi 2 over both wireless and wired at the default bitrate of 20000Kbps at 1080p with 30fps. Overclocked to 1000 cpu, 450 ram, 500 gpu and 2 overvolt.

Im not technically challenged - heck, i live for cli, but i think i'm gonna go for the steam box just because its 1080p at 60fps. Get a 1g dumb switch to forward your packets and wont have issue with streaming

Definitely a fun project and worthwhile if you want to save a few bucks (provided you have the spare parts and a long enough Ethernet cable), but for the average person it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a steam link.

If your router is worth a damn, it should resolve your local hostnames to IPs for you.
If your router isn't worth a damn, edit /etc/hosts on the raspberry pi. an extra step, but if you hate IPs, worth it. Just note that if you do this, you'll need a static IPs or have a router that can give a specific IP based on MAC address or hostname.

Don't even try with a Model B+ with 512mb ram. It just isn't fast enough. It should also work on the banana pi/pro as long as the distros for it are essentially raspbian for the banana pi (bananian). I would just question the java install.

    Pretty sure you're not doing 1080p at 30fps. That's 1080i I think.

Is it possible to stream steam if I have a Asus R9 graphics card?

Awesome DIY. But I still think running an HDMI cable to your TV is the simplest way to play PC games on the big screen.

Randy Lutcavich Yeah but if your desktop is in another room, you'd need a 20m HDMI cable and peripherals cables. Unplugging everything and moving it all the time isn't worth the extra inches of screen area IMO.

KiwiPowerNZ True. I think I'm just weird cause I use my TV as my PC monitor (or remote in).

The new version is moonlight-embedded, it's better than the java version imo and gave better performance

Why do you need the graphics card ? just use a raspberry pi cluster.
