Hi Guys! I have recently merged a pull request from cgutman (a contributor for Moonlight) with the main repository. This updates the software to work with all of the latest versions of GeForce Experience (I wasn't aware it had been updated). This should fix the problems people have been having regarding "pointer" errors etc. Apologies for the delay in sorting this out - the video is almost a year old now and I am currently revising for my A levels. Thanks for your patience and also to cgutman. If you have any issues with this then please email me: theraspberrypiguy@gmail.com Matt (Upvote this so everyone can see!)
This seriously feels like living in the future. My mind is blown how awesome all this tech is. New apartment with a nice tv, my gaming computer in a different room with my rasbpi helping me create the ultimate entertainment system when I just want to chill on the couch. I can stream games with moonlight, emulate old ones with retropie or enjoy series, movies, music, twitch.tv, netflix, torrents/popcorn time with OSMC. It's mind blowing, and imho what will ultimately kill consoles when it's more easily accessible for the lesser technical literate. Nice video and thanks for the help, although I would have preferred an updated guide for doing this within RetroPie, so moonlight shows up in the "emulation station" -- that way you'll have a proper gaming OS for older games too -- 2 birds with 1 stone
Great guide! I have my Raspberry Pi 2 set up to be a media center as well with OSMC (Kodi). Is it possible to embed moonlight in Kodi? How would you go about doing this?
You are typing that command with mistake (Capslock or you put you ip into this "" things... If you checked it and its good, then you did mistake in installing moonlight embeed.
Hello, congratulations for the video. I have a doubt. The files: README, howtomap, install and license, I cut and put in the memory card? I put in some folder or just paste in the root directory of the card? I'm not managing to install the stage of java error.
Super awesome! I'm not sure I have the proper video card to pull this off, but I'm definitely going to look into it. Thanks for putting together all the scripts and the great tutorial!
everything works fine for me up until i do moonlight pair then the ip. it says that moonlight cant be found. does that mean the script didnt download right... im lost
So I'm following a procedure to be able to play games from Steam, via stream on my Bartop I rode here and put next to my pc. At first I have to access my pc by Putty. Then open the putty, put my ip, ta ja marked ssh port 22, but even q put telnet, the same error when trying to access. Ja open other ports in the modem and nothing. How can I access my pc? Because I have to access it p then access the recalbox after typing commands. Oh, windows 7 64bit use on PC. Follows the error: "network error connection refused"
great video as always however could you do a separate video on how to program buttons on your mouse and keyboard or controller because jump doesn't have a button assigned to it on my keyboard and neither does sprint .on my controller only walk left and right works.none of the buttons work, look about doesn't work and none of the triggers work.
Awesome Video, but I have a problem. I can't map the controller. I can see it in the device list but when I try to map it it doesn't respond. Whem I'm trying to map it I get "failed to open device Failed to open device /dev/input/event1".
Damian Cabaniss graphical interface doesn't mean OS. The "pi terminal" you're talking about is the raspbian cli. So, he's using for sure raspbian lite.
beware though that if you do decide to stream over wifi, using a single band or 2.4ghz wifi will severely impact the quality of your streaming, and mostly limit you to 720p. i highly recommend to only stream through ethernet port or wifi 5.0ghz
I have issues with the mapping, as soon as I use my ps controller it locks itself towards one direction. I have tried a different controller, still same issues. I have tried remapping, + new folder. Any help on this?
+auscaliber1 Hi there, unfortunately it did not originally and this created a few unforeseen issues when the GeForce software updated. I have just updated the install script with someone else's pull request and now it should use all the up-to-date software
Hello, awesome turorial :) i followed all your instructions and it kinda worked. but when i start a game or steam i dont really see the picture.. when i move the mouse or press a key on my keyboard i see that something is happening on my PC but nothing is happening on the screen thats connected to my Pi :( how can i fix that? (newest nvidia drivers Win10 and newest nvidia experience)
a couple of things... I don't know why but I had to add the host computers ip address to every moonlight command otherwise it wouldn't work. Secondly, I couldn't get any audio thru the stream. (used a Raspberry Pi 2.)
Hello! on the last step, when I try to pair to the computer the Pi says "Can't connect to sever ....." (ip address). Any idea? I blocked the computer defense.
Hi, I tried your guide and everything run fine, however after I launch steam I can hear the sounds of the application but no image is shown, do you know why? Thanks!
I've paired my pc to the Pi, I type in through Putty (ssh); "moonlight list" and it comes up with "Failed to create client: Daemon not running Autodiscovery failed. Specify an IP address next time." And when I type it into the RPi, it says; "HTTP response code said error" Please help!
Thanks for this! The install worked like a charm but it looks like the latest Nvidia Drivers weren't compatible with moonlight when I installed it. But in the last day it's been updated to fix the handshake issue I was having... I'm a total linux noob.. how do I update moonlight?
I'm getting an error after the lengthy scanning process. "Cannot write to 'libevdev-dev_1.4.3+dfag-1_armhf.deb' (No space left on device). this is a brand new installation on a 32gb sd card, so the only thing i've installed so far is this. This shouldn't take up the entire space of my card. that, or something isn't working as it should... The script tries again twice more, but the progress bar never moves. i end with an "unrecoverable fatal error", and it aborts. However, the script finishes and says "And... We should be all done now!" what have i done wrong?
Help im getting the error " Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: moonlight-embedded : Depends: libenet1a but it is not installable E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages." when trying to run your script.
+TheRaspberryPiGuy I used your install script but every time I run cd game_stream it says the directory is not found. ps I am using a raspberry pi 3 with raspian jessie.
Hi thx for this great guide. I just tried it and all works fine till the point where i try to start the stream. When I type in moonlight stream -1080 -30fps app Steam , I get the answer Starting RTSP handshak...RTSP message too long RTSP DESCRIPE request failed: -1 failed: -1 What am i doing wrong? Can you help a Noop?
Hi sir Rishabh here from India, can we stream windows desktop on home network with raspberry pi without major lag ? plz tell me if you knows anything about desktop streaming with raspberry pi 3.
Hi when i do moonlight pair it takes awhile then says: Certificate generated another pause Failed to connect to server GFE says the PC is ready to stream, im logged in, settings are on my network only and ive triple checked the IP address... any thoughts?
HI! I ran into a slight problem. Having managed install everything on my Raspberry and allowed SHIELD on my PC, I still can't connect to my PC. Whenever I type , it says: Can't connect to server. I even tried to disable my firewall but it won't do anything good. Thx for help :)
So can this work as long as the Raspberry has an internet connection? Meaning that if you were miles away from your PC it could still play (whilst being laggy).
so, would this increase performance? As in say I lay while playing 7 days to die, if I streamed it with this Raspberry Pi's 3 help, would it play smoother?
When I type in moonlight list or moonlight stream ... then he says “searching for server” but nothing happens. When I try to pair moonlight with my pc, he says it’s already paired... so I don’t know what’s wrong. :( Edit: when I tried to do this with my pc connected to a desktop switch and the raspberry connected with the same desktop switch it’s running
I try to pair but I get : Can't open configuration file: hosts/192.168.0.3.conf Generating certificate...done invalid data received from server: 192.168.0.3 Do I need to go to my pc to fix this?
would there be any reason why this wouldn't work on the raspberry pi 3? I've tried twice and it just keeps saying that there is no command called moonlight when I try to run moonlight pair. can anyone help?
+Cameron W. (CreeperSlayer261) Hi! The issue with the tutorial was just due to a piece of software being updated. I have merged a pull request on my GitHub and it should now all be working correctly.

1.Does it work with other games that aren't on steam ? In the geforce experience software, I can see (for example) World of tanks that can't be dowload from steam. 2. I have a gtx 980M for laptop, is that enough or I need a deskop computer ?
+Yxzoum ² 1) Yes it does work with games that are not necessarily on Steam - just the ones that can be viewed with the GeForce Experience software. 2) I think that the gtx 980M should be fine also!
You will have to start from the pairing part. You can simply make a bash program which consist of those pairing commands and put it to your raspi desktop for convenient access
Great tutorial! Moonlight works fine on Rpi B+ 512MB. I don't know how to set up X360 wireless controller on Rpi. My PC works in other room, so X360 controller has problem with range.
Is there another way of doing this for Raspberry Pi 3?
8 лет назад
If you mean, playing PC games on the RPi3 natively, then no, there's no other way. This solution brings the screen of your PC to the Raspberry Pi in a H.264 video stream, and streams the controller actions back to the PC. So the RPi is just a dumb terminal in this setup. The game really runs and renders on your PC.
I made 2 mappings for each controller. And I used the following command: moonlight stream -720 -60fps -app Cemu -mapping xbox.map -input /dev/input/event2 -mapping xbox1.map -input /dev/input/event3 And it comes up with the following: Add input /dev/input/event2 (mapping xbox.map)... Add input /dev/input/event3 (mapping xbox1.map)... Stream 1280 x 720, 60 fps, 5000 kbps Fine and all, but when I open Cemu only 1 controller shows up.
I have a problem: After I tried to pair my Raspberry pi to my Pc this error appeared: moonlight: error while loading shared libraries: libgamestream.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory What can I do?

coud you tell how to do it? thanks
4:19 The "SHIELD" tab no longer exists on the latest version of GeForce.
Just asking does it mean that the computer is processing the game or does the raspberry pi do it ?? Or are you basicly just streaming it to the TV
hexbughappy the computer is running and processing the games, and the Pi is simply displaying the PC stream to it
Thanks ☺
The tutorial works flawlessly! just tried it now and works great with rPi 3
