- The AMG GLS 63 has some changes for 2024 from Mercedes Benz. On the outside you will discover red painted calipers, new optional 23in forged wheels and updated tail lights. On the inside you will be greeted by a 2-tone interior and (2) 12.3in screens. Under the hood is a hand assembled 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that pumps out over 600HP. Is the 2024 Mercedes AMG GLS 63 a BETTER performance SUV than a Cadillac Escalade V?

Love this Mercedes but the Escalade has an useful third row and more cargo area. I guess everything depends on what you need.

Joe, Having the trim around the wheel wells painted body color, makes it looks 10x better. I wish other manufactures would paint the wheel well trim.

I love how the screen does not stick up like a sore thumb. The screen colors are rich, and the interior colors are great! You must have ventilated seats, though, in a car this upscale!

Just bought one and absolutely love it! The interior is insane and makes you feel like you’re in a spaceship 🚀 the Escalade V uses a lot more fuel and has a little bit cheaper and more plastic interior than the GLS 63. we tested both to compare. The mild hybrid twin turbo V8 is an amazing engine 💯💪
I bought a GLS63 about 8 months ago, and couldn't agree more, it's better than the caddy in every meaningful way and the only people that think otherwise are the cadillac d**k riders.
@@corylazart2407 congratulations it really is an amazing machine and the best mix between luxury, sport and everyday practicality. I do love the way the Escalades look and sound but the interior just isn’t as nice as the AMG and with the NA V8 you’re definitely spending a lot more on gas ⛽️

Had one and loved it except one thing. Mercedes always has a staggard tire set up. After about 8-9k tires pretty much done. Ride becomes rough and tires (only a couple of manufacturers) are about 3k. Just a lot to spend on tires when you're driving about 15-20k per year. Other than that, it was a great vehicle with no problems. Premium gas required.

It’s a beast of an SUV! I’ve driven a lot of these GLS 63s and the V8 engine, performance exhaust and tech are remarkable despite it’s size. You’ll need a larger garage to fit this SUV.

Personal choice on these two. The Merc is certainly more of a stealth vehicle. Nice review. You know maybe you get ventilated rear seats with the $12k Special Rear Rider Package.
I need to find your review of the Escalade before I choose. My application really needs that 3rd row to be everything and a Hostess Ding-Dong! Also looking for performance in actual SUV conditions: 2 hours of desert highway (extreme heat and extreme wind) and 3/4 hour of mountain highway (6° incline with constant twists and turns, 3 hairpins). Chauffeuring guests from airport to luxurious retreat center.
The 2024 GLS 63 is by far the best version of the GLS63. It's an absolute monster, and better tweaks and performances than its previous years.

I agree 100% about the running boards. Would be much nicer if there were automatic and hidden like the Escalade V. I also wish this GLS had Escalade features like approach lighting, digital rear view mirror or the cool box in the center console. The optional upgraded Burmester 3D audio with 25 speakers in this GLS should be standard for the price.
I'll take the AMG but the wheels are a bit too large for my taste. Bring the diameter down an inch, maybe two.

This AMG should only come in the night package (no shiny exterior chrome trim). And should include ventilated seats for the second row, and power shades for windows. Did this model have soft close doors?

Joe, just a hunch on my part, but I wonder if the slightly smaller size of the full-size Mercedes SUV is due, in part, to the narrow European roads, apart from the autobahn. While this AMG is awesome on many levels, it still can't hold a candle to the even more awesome Escalade V. I just feel you get much more bang for the buck with the Escalade. That's my rationale and I'm stickin' to it.

I bought a 2024 AMG GKS 63, I love it. I had a AMG GLE 63 before this car, I like the handling of the GLE better, but to have the extra room for someone in the second seat is very nice with the larger car. As nice as the Cad is it’s not the quality of the AMG.
Anyway possible to put the rear 385 rear wheel to the front to make it sit squared instead of staggered? I like the look of the Mercedes 2021 GLS 580 twin 5 spoke aluminum alloy wheels better

I prefer the rigid steps along the side of the GLS63. Those fold down steps on the Escalade V and other trucks always stop working over time and in cold weather.

i wish they would change the damn running boards. Been the same since like 2010. My 2013 colleects alot of dirt inside and no matter how much you try to spray it out it never comes out completely

The beautiful wheels and flashy calipers make the vehicle appear less bulky. I could not afford a $4695 set of wheels, though!!!
So Benz is a brand of Mercedes? Didn't know that. Thought Benz was just apart of the Mercedes name. Didn't know it was its own brand like AMG 🤯

I would go with the AMG GLS 63. I prefer the design over the Cadillac, as I feel the V model doesn’t do enough changes to the front of the car to separate it from a normal Escalade. Also the pops and bangs in the Escalade V may be a little overkill for a daily driver.
Very impressive vehicle. If I was made of money, I'd choose this over the Cadillac.

Looking at the interior, it is super nice. In the past, Mercedes and BMW were leagues ahead from the non luxury brands. Today, I find the differences are less pronounced.
I haven't seen the Escalade review yet. But even tho I love American muscle, it would be tough to surpass the luxury, craftsmanship, and engine here.
👍🏼You NEED to see his V reviews. He's done 3 or 4 of them so far. 🏃♀️➡️You'll be running to your nearest dealership... but you'll be lucky to find one!! Took us a year to find one @ MSRP. MOST everybody was asking $15k to $100k *OVER* MSRP. Some STILL are.

I love this review, and I love all of the Escalade V, reviews that you've done in the past! For me, I think this completely blows the doors, in my opinion, over the mighty Escalade V, because everything is nicer, cleaner, special, and more better of a unique riding experience, over the mega Escalade V! Where the biggest zonk in my book, over the GLS 63 AMG, is the Escalade V's interior is very bland for me, and this one has everything, plus some! What do you think, Joe?

I have the new GLE 63 S Coupe, same engine tuned to 750hp. Same luxury, less weight, same sound, fast as fuck… just a tad smaller than the GLS.. so best of both worlds.

This is far superior to the Escalade. When Mercedes designs a platform, it builds it with AMG performance in mind, hence the inherent DNA of the car is much better integrated.

Great review Joe! But, you should compare this vehicle with the 2024 BMW X7 M60i, which has the actual S-68 M engine or Alpina. I don't think Mercedes is comparing itself with Cadillac. Mercedes is in competition with BMW. Now, Cadillac is trying to be Mercedes and BMW.

Well, Joe the Escalade looks better, however the Mercedes Benz is probably more reliable, i prefer the escalade v.
Gls 63 amg is the ultimate suv
