Thank you Fujimori-san, I processed fifty board feet this way and like the results. I was going to char with propane and this saved me tons of money.

Can you use fresh sawn, green lumber in yakisugi wood preservation technique?

When I burn, I like to give the boards 1-2 weeks of drying first. If I burn them fresh, the water inside can "pop" and leave an ugly mark Terje

Hello, problem: Standing in the sun, after a few months, the boards change color. They lose the "black" and lighten up.

Can we do voth sides with the chimney technique ?

I imagine you just turn the 3 pieces around and repeat to do the other side.

will it not need to be treated on the other side ? both for durability and keeping plane ?

No, it doesn't have to. The inner side of the cladding does not get wet, you only need to protect the outside.

If you dip the boards in linseedoil, the oil will bind the coal. If left untreated the coal will more easily fall of, and also stain when you touch it. If you also burn the backside, you will reverse some of the "cupping". Terje

So, I am hoping because I'm about to try this, that your average pinewood 2x4 can be used?

wow those boards are warped! I wouldn't want to be the person responsible for the installation of these planks. I guess this is just advertising...

I wonder why. Maybe they have burned for too long or the planks were not dry enough?
