Hiroba - Learning from Japanese public space
In Sweden, there is plenty of public space. We have spacious streets and squares but no strong culture of using them. Unlike Sweden, Tokyo has very little of what we would categorize as squares or public spaces. The word square is translated in Japanese to hiroba and historically these rooms in Japan are not defined by a physical place but instead through human activity and interaction.
In our project, we turn our eyes to Japan, and specifically Tokyo - a city that at first glance does not have that very much in common with our public spaces in Sweden. We see, however, that in Japan one can solve the creation of temporary spaces and rooms in very interesting ways. The purpose of this proje...

Thank you Fujimori-san, I processed fifty board feet this way and like the results. I was going to char with propane and this saved me tons of money.
This guy, with his creative nature-bound spirit, really needs to make a violin 💖 I soo want to see and hear a violin he would make
Can we do voth sides with the chimney technique ?
I imagine you just turn the 3 pieces around and repeat to do the other side.
I could listen to this man for hours
Hello, problem: Standing in the sun, after a few months, the boards change color. They lose the "black" and lighten up.
What type of wood can you use to make this? Thanks
he had mentioned pine or cedar due to its prevalence
So, I am hoping because I'm about to try this, that your average pinewood 2x4 can be used?
Can you use fresh sawn, green lumber in yakisugi wood preservation technique?
When I burn, I like to give the boards 1-2 weeks of drying first. If I burn them fresh, the water inside can "pop" and leave an ugly mark Terje
wow those boards are warped! I wouldn't want to be the person responsible for the installation of these planks. I guess this is just advertising...
I wonder why. Maybe they have burned for too long or the planks were not dry enough?
will it not need to be treated on the other side ? both for durability and keeping plane ?
No, it doesn't have to. The inner side of the cladding does not get wet, you only need to protect the outside.
If you dip the boards in linseedoil, the oil will bind the coal. If left untreated the coal will more easily fall of, and also stain when you touch it. If you also burn the backside, you will reverse some of the "cupping". Terje

Interesting lecture! Thank you for uploading
NICE.
