I love the Panoz Roadster in this Infineon livery at Silverstone & Le Mans in 1999, it was visually and audibly stunning. The front-mid engined layout made the Panoz Roadster look like a clubman racing Mallock Mk 16-21 on a huge amount of steroids. The sound of that V8 Roush motor mated to side pipes made it sound like an open pipe V8 Spitfire.
I saw Jan Magnussen drive it at Lime Rock in '99. Leitzinger and Weaver were driving Dyson Riley and Scotts and Wayne Taylor was in a Ferrari 333SP. I thought it was pretty ugly though and I was rooting for Butch .😬
There were 10 total GTR-1 chassis produced, which included 2 for their homologation road cars. 3 of them were converted into LMP-1s in 1999 - with very little chopping, I've been told. They're literally the same chassis. Today, 2 of those 3 still exist as LMP-1s, and one was converted back to being the GTR-1 Q9 Hybrid. One was also converted to the newer GTP-spec car for 2004.
Marvelous! That was worth the wait, sports car racing would have been so much less interesting without Dr. Panoz. Please do a feature on the Canibal!
My dad showed me a Panoz car as a kid, and I thought it looked very strange in an awesome way. Been a fan ever sinse.
Love this, Marshall. Thanks!

The lobby of the chateau elan hotel looked so sweet when it displayed cars like this!
Those Visteon cars were one of my favorite liveries as a child. Especially Roberto Moreno's car in CART
I remer this car when I first watched ALMS racing in 1999. Fantastic machine, and even beat the Audi R8 a couple of times!
The Panoz beat the R8 more times than any other manufacturer in those times.
This car was a beast and heavy
never first but hung in there against the Cadilliacs
❤
What an absolute masterpiece, just subbed.
We saw the 2002 Mugan powered LMP07 (LMP900 class) testing at Donington 12-4-23.
watched this car at -what is now called -Canadian Tire Motorsport Track--Wayne Taylor was driving the open cockpit Cadillac. close race-great track

Do you know if the Panoz GTR1 cars still exist, or were they chopped up to make the Roadsters?
