▶️ The 2023 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans saw a NASCAR stock car take on the endurance race for the first time in history. The NASCAR Le Mans racer was fielded by Hendrick Motorsports. The specially prepared Garage 56 Chevy Camaro ZL1 test car was recently seen turning laps at Sebring Raceway in Florida. NASCAR itself has partnered with Chevrolet and Hendrick Motorsports to develop a higher-performance, one-off variant of its new-for-2022 Next Gen stock car platform to race under Garage 56 rules as an unclassified car at the hundredth anniversary 24 Hours of Le Mans.

I lost a bit of interest in Le Mans, but after learning about this, I watched purely for this. Being from the uk, you hear a lot of European snobbery about US race cars. So I love that the yanks went full Carol Shelby on them. What a great car. Easily top of the podium for sound. It’s impossible to get bored of that noise. My all time favourite car, 427 Cobra, has the best sound, followed by the Daytona Coupe then this! Bloody well done to the US and Nascar 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thanks for your comment Stefan! Love to see an enthusiastic comment about this car man! 🙌🏻 hope you enjoyed the video! 👌🏻

I loved how much the Europeans went nuts from enthusiasm the entire time at Le Mans over this car, one of the greatest feelings of American patriotism I've felt throughout my life seeing and hearing how much our fellow European friends loved one of our great heritages of Americana, that car screamed FREEDOM everytime it reved it's engine and flew by spectators at full throttle, it was beautiful. 😭
We all learn from each other. Greetings France, Europe and the world, ......with respect, wishing y'all well. from USA

And us Scots have been shouting Freedom before you were even a fucking country so get to the back of the line.

this car also was in the open clas and didnt really compete... if it wanted to compete in le mans it wuld need to comply with regulations... but then the hybrids wuld just destroy this thing
Could you imagine 20 cup cars bumper to bumper killing it at LeMans? The roar would be thunderous!
If the Camaro is also restricted to 525hp like the other GTe cars it will run at the back, the Corvette is better
@claudiusconruton2720 the camaro is still almost 500 pounds heavier. And is way less aerodynamic! More like a brick!🤣
@@claudiusconruton2720 Corvette was closer to 500hp but there are some 600hp GTE cars. Autoblog states that the Camaro was running a 670hp package. Maximum HP restriction for Le Mans is 677hp.

I truly wish Nascar would do a full car field race in Europe, like the NFL does in England. I think the fans here would love it. Come on Nascar listen to the fans.

It's funny how so many people worldwide think Nascar couldn't be competitive in a road course race. When they've been racing on road courses for decades.
This car is as much a Nascar Stock car as a Nascar Stock car is a road legal Camaro. An unmodified Nascar Camaro would have been buried by the field at Le Mans.
@kinggremlin4574 Of course it would get left behind. One thing, they weigh about 800 lbs more and are built to Nascar regulations. If they modified it to work in the GTE class, it wouldn't be a Nascar race car anymore.
They can compete with other cup cars but not road race cars, to heavy to high center of gravity rear end is solid axle crap for real road racing, independent is better. It could not compete with cars made for road racing. Fact is no way to be even as cars to different in tech specs.

I would love to see road courses for NASCARs rather than just going circles because clearly these cars can handle tracks
It's a common misconception that Nascar doesn't race on road courses. In truth NASCAR has actually raced at road courses for decades. Since 1957, in fact. This weekend is actually their first time on a street course in downtown Chicago. August 13 is at the Indianapolis road course, the week after, August 20th is at Watkins Glen, a former F1 site. But it looked cool.
no Nascars fault they haven't already developed rules for them.
This was not a NASCAR but rather a purpose built race car based on a NASCAR that was built to no rules. Good marketing though.
Nascar race cars are indeed purpose built race cars from the ground up. The current 2023 versions are not far off from this car. And yes we race Nascar on road courses in the US every year.
NASCAR type cars have competed at Leman before.
The car is awesome and is finally something more sophisticated that doesn’t understeer into a wall at a mere thought of a corner. Too bad it just doesn’t make sense when put together with existing le mans classes, it would be worse than a brick in gte and doesn’t qualify for other classes. The Camaro was on TV for 6 minutes out of the 24 hours. That equals .004% of the total race did we get to see it. My question is, how did it steal the show if we didn't really get to see it on the track? I will never waste my time with the 24 hours of Le Mans again.... lesson was learned.
Yes the camaro deserved more screen time but everyone was too focused on hypercar in general 😅
It stole the show by being not only great looking the pit crew challenge they won the gt3 class and were 5th overall with a mechanical jack add the fact that American v8 sound turned heads and the drivers really got the best out of the car.

Hi, wonder why they want to discontinue it in 2024?***
This thing is more Supercar than Nascar. I can't agree with this being called a stock car.
Had to be modified for safety, and it is nowhere near as exotic as the cars it passed with ease. We love it.
Stock car in this case does not mean stock from factory, it is the term used in America for this (type) of race car. In the early days 1940's they did use stock from the factory cars to race in this organization. That is why they were called stockcars.Yes, one word as spelled. Over the years as speeds increased and accidents became more severe, it was determined that they would have to change to purpose- built racecars for safety. And while they are no longer stock from the factory, the term stockcar has remained. Do not know why but everyone understands and accepts it. So, we do not call them Nascars.
"Chad nas" Its pronounced Chad Ke-naus
“Automative technology”?
Except it didn't steal the show at all.
Only Americans think it did.
No-one else gave a fuck since it ended up 27 laps down, lol.
A bit of confusion here. Did you say the Camaro ran with a flat crank? I beg to differ.
'MERICA!!!!!!
No matter how much I want to enjoy NASCAR, so long as the majority of tracks it is run on are ovals, I can never get the chariot race in "Ben Hur" out of my mind. Too, even the Camaro on steroids is going to get embarrassed by an F1 car.
Let someone get a dodge up there to make it real interesting
Dodge no longer competes in Nascar.
@scrambler69-xk3kv Yes, that is true. They still have not tried to run Le Mans yet. Dodge was kicked out several times from NASCAR. Or should I say asked to leave
Haters will say it didn’t win
Didn't it lay down the fastest lap that day?
lol 39th.
Should be been black with a 3 on the side.
These cars haven't been "stock" in 50 years...
So what was the HP, motor and fuel system? Was it the same boring 550 with a tapered spacer? NASCAR might get some fans back if they had not clipped their nuts so bad... My wife's KIA has more HP 😁
They had to. Over the years tech. has improved in the engines and they can now make really serious HP.so for safety sake they had to keep the cars at a speed that was safe for the driver. Most if not all of the tracks are old so if you cannot change the track, you have to change the car. Hell, Bill Elliot went 212 mph years ago. They predict that without restrictions the current car would top 230. Much too fast for these old tracks to handle.
It doesn't matter if it's GM or Ford if the factory-supported race teams make a serious effort in International Road racing they can win. Ford won with their Ford GT at Lemans and the Rolex 24 hrs at Daytona. The Camaro effort of LeMans was impressive but way more expensive than a NASCAR effort. IMO only a few NASCAR teams could afford to put that car on track in Cup events. NASCAR is already too expensive without major sponsorship so you will never see a full field of Cup Cars running with LeMans specifications.
One more comment from Ford "Hold my beer"
Yeah but you're missing one really really important point. The current Ford GT is a completely overpriced hypercar that you need to literally fill out a resume to own. The Corvettes literally anybody can go buy. They win all the time there as well including this time. What makes a Camaro special though is it's a big portly American muscle car. They're all over the streets here, even more so than any Corvettes will be. Many families have owned one many families have made memories in one, and many people know someone who owns one right now. It's not an expensive car so to see the stock car version of it over there ripping up the track like that is pretty big deal. And the fact that so many people thought it just wouldn't have a chance is even more hilarious
@@ashes2ashes863 Nice try but stock from the factory does not win major racing events. Doesn't matter if it's Ford or GM. BTW my bone stock Mustang GT 5.0 pisses all over the Camaro with a bigger engine. Used to be there was no replacement for displacement until Cammer Mustangs came along.
@@RSDX99 you must have the one special one in the world that does because I certainly can go on RUclips and find a plethora of Camaros pissing all over your five-point slow. It's funny you guys make such a big deal about the displacement, meanwhile the coyote takes up literally twice the space under the hood there that any small block does. Less displacement but physically twice the size. I guess that's why people put small block Chevys in everything including hot rod Fords but don't put small block Fords in anything ever. Never seen a coyote Fest before.
By the way, General Motors wins plenty of stock Style Racing including in the SCCA. I know that for a fact because in the earlier part of my lifetime I worked for American Motorsports. If Nascar wants to keep this interest going. They are going to have to ditch the Ovals and Rovals.
Nascar will have to dedicate 85% of Nascar races to legit road circuits.
And not Laguna Seca and Mid Ohio.
They are gonna have to race at Spa. Suzuka, Kyalami, The Nurburgring. Dedicated road circuits.
Those are just a few examples.
If they keep most racing in the states, they are going to have to tear down the ovals and build all new road courses.
And they would have to have actual elevation changes, good complex high speed corner sections. With real flow. Not straight, shicane, straight, hairpin, steet circuit garbage.
They are going to have to build at least 20 variations of tracks like Spa and Silverstone, Donnington, Imola, and even a high speed track like circuit de la Sarthe.
But no. America will just keep racing on ovals, cause it's cheaper.
And thus, all this good press and interest will fade to nothing.
They've tried this before. But America doesn't really want to invest in it's success.
The Circuit of the America's didn't do it. Niether did the Indy or Daytona rovals.
Sebring is just a cute under developed airport club circuit with lots of bumps that make it good for torture testing a Le Mans entrant.
America needs a Spa. And Road America isn't it. Niether is Watkins Glenn.
Road Atlanta could've been it, but it's too short, and too slow.
You need medium and high speed corners that lead onto long and fast straights, with sweeping S curves and lots of passing opportunities.
But no. That's not good for safety, is it? Hence why racing is still a dying pass time. With no real new resurgence they keep claiming is happening. It isn't gonna happen.
Safety is a tertiary consideration.
Speed is number 1. Competition is number 2.
