Lexus GX470 9 Inch Android Head Unit (APPLE CAR PLAY) Install EASY Step by Step

- Here's a complete step-by-step video showing you how to install a new car radio head unit to give your Lexus GX470 a modern upgrade. I'm using a Joying 9-inch Android 10.0 head unit in this video. This Android head unit also has Apple Car Play, so you can pair any phone with this head unit. This video should clear up any confusion with regards to the type of harness you need to run in order to install this, as well as show you the adjustments you have to make on the body to make it work on your GX470. This installation requires no DRILLING at all. I'll also install a USB and USBC flush mount in one of my cigarette lighter holders. This guide should also work on Toyota 4Runners, Tacomas, Tundras, and FJ Cruisers.

Using that USB ciggy adapter like you have, it does charge up the phone-but can you transfer video files from a usb stick to the deck? I have tried and doesnt work-Any tips on playing movies or video? (for the passenger of course).

I have the ML setup do I ALSO need to purchase the wiring harness with CANBUS decoder from Joying as well? (listed under accessories) or does the unit include a wiring harness?
So how has the unit been quality wise over time?
Also, when I get everything installed, the 8mm side screws to bolt the chassis to the new radio-my holes don't line up at any of those locations....any thoughts?

What brand is the wiring harness? Is that on amazon as well?
My man! I may have missed it but where did you put your GPS dongle/receiver? Do you get a signal when you're out on the road? I just installed the same unit but missed the GPS dongle...smh. I'm going back in to hook it up but not sure where to run the dongle. Was thinking on the dash somewhere but not sure what the best route is. Thanks!
I believe the GPS Dongle had a magnetic bottom so i put it on the steep bar the goes across the dash left to right & zip tied it there aha. I wasn't sure if I needed it but I just put it in there anyways. Does your Cell Phone GPS apps work without it?

Damn, do a Non Nav Conversion haha. I built my own drawer system with a sleeping platform. I have a 2 part video of me doing the entire build. Paired it up with a Millard trifold mattress. Super comfy!

So....your LCD is not rattling at all? it's literally not clipped to the deck, as you removed those clips in the back, so held in by the plastic AC slots and the top LCD computer thing slots is all?
Is your volume good and still loud? I have mine all the way at 36 and still not loud enough. Also the wiring did you go with the no Amp? Or you choose the JbL/ pioneer? I don't have the ML system
I set mine at 20 and it’s perfect. If you don’t have a ML system you most likely have a pioneer / JBL. Check under your driver seat to confirm you have an amp. It should be an pioneer amp. I chose the JBL/Pioneer AMP
So basically no ML (no logo on my head unit or door speakers) but an amp under the seat I should go with the JBL/pioneer version?
Yea. Double check the AMP below to make sure it said "pioneer" You have to stretch a bit to find it but it should have a yellow tag and should say Pioneer. I actually haven't seen any ML gx470s.
So now the headunit is updated to Android 12?
Mine does the factory touch screen with navigation. Does the backup camera still work with that, that you know of?
So looks like you have the NAV model you won't be able to run this unless you do the non nav conversion. But you should be able to plug in your backup camera.
Did you get your volume control to work on the steering wheel?

It sounds the same to me. Not really a huge audio guy but it’s pretty clear

It's an 04. 03-04 NON VVTI. If you want 20more HP get 05+ (VVTi). Also look for a Non Nav one so you have more options for your head unit.
Will this work with a GX470 with the nav screen or no?
This will only work on Non Nav Screens unfortunately :\

No you do not aha. You can use a regular hand held screw driver. Just a bit faster with a power drill.
Does the antenna stay tucked in there??
Yea I just zip tied in to something so it doesn't move.

ahaha I was gentle with the power drill aha . Couldn't say the same for the face plates aha
nice, this is hard to watch, just take the wiring connections off, put a cloth on a table , but the unit face down and take the screws and bolts out, put everything together on a table with a cloth so you do not scratch the scrap out of your car and hardware, and a huge power tool is over kill, joying has custom surround trims for some models on their website
