  • Between the years of 2006 to 2010 Jimmie Johnson won five consecutive championships. During that time he became a legend of American sports. But what many people tend to forget are the drivers who challenged him through those years. Denny Hamlin in 2010 came closest to dethroning JJ during that time. This is the story of how Denny Hamlin nearly became the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cups Series champion.

      Running's Racing not true. The only time he’s ever finished worse than 12th in points was in 2013, when he broke his back.
      That’s pretty consistent, especially considering he’s won a race in all those season. It’s a common misconception people have about Denny since he doesn’t get talked about much, so I understand why people make this mistake.
      Hamlin and Johnson might lose their winning streaks this year, leaving Kyle Busch as the only driver to win in every full time season he’s ran

    Hamlin's 2010 season was heartbreaking. I so wanted him to beat JJ. Hell, even one of my friends from high school sympathized for me because I was so frustrated and voiced it on social media. Kicker? She wasn't even a fan of the sport.
    Add that along with a heinous season Gordon had, I was angry.
    8 years later, don't care for Hamlin and no longer hated JJ. Time flies.

      @brokenreverie13 5 лет назад +1

      Give me a valid reason why you don't care for Hamlin, and like Johnson now... If I were to guess? Because Hamlin dumped Elliott at Martinsville in 2017, and Johnson having such a weak season in 2018? If so, that's pretty lame. The thing about Elliott and Hamlin is admitted to wrecking him. He said he wanted to do the bump and run but instead overdrove the corner, and picked the bumper off the ground. No reason to hate the guy, but since you're a Gordon fan, then that tells me why you hate him.

    This was Hamlin's best season in terms of wins, but he had worse average finish than Matt Kenseth who got 0 wins that year. Hamlin had a 12.9 average finish while Kenseth had a 12.8 average finish. He still would have finished 3rd in points under the non-chase format so at least he did mostly deserve 2nd in points.

    I feel like almost every season is a missing ring for Hamlin. He has by far the worst luck in the playoffs. Here’s a rundown. ⬇️

    - 2012: ECU Failure (Martinsville Fall)
    - 2013: Broken Back (Didn’t Make Playoffs)

    Denny and the Fedex team just choked this one away. At the start of 2010, they were winning and Mike Ford called the strategy right, that Martinsville win was pure genius(even though I don't like to admit it). Then as time wore on, the team started feeling like they could win every week(All we do is win) and then by Chase time, everybody caught up to them. You could tell as the year was winding down that Johnson was rising to the occasion while Hamlin wasn't coming close and then Mike Ford said they were better than the 48 team and then that compounded with Hamlin's horrid Homestead start is what killed any chance of him getting a championship. To me, they were a team that peaked too early and they weren't used to being in a championship battle yet and preserving themselves over the long haul. This was Denny's only real shot at a Cup so far. This is a big lesson in Don't shoot your mouth off until you have really done something(win a championship) and then you can talk.

      Hamlin's move on Chase for "a free ticket to martinsville". Don't forget I said "probably", doesn't have to be true, but can still be an arguable case.

      If Hamlin hadn't dumped Chase, he still would have passed him eventually. He had the better car and there were plenty of laps left

    CONGRATS DENNY HAMLIN YOU STILL CAN’T WIN THE CUP CHAMPIONSHIP! You had everything thing going your way for your first win. Your personal hell in Homestead was replaced by your stomping grounds in Phoenix. Your rivals absolutely shit the bed when it mattered the most and you out-choked Chase Elliot.
    May the memes of Denny Ketchum live on.

    Lmao. Its always fun watching a cocky team lose and choke. Hamlin ran his mouth and ate shit for it. 😂😂
