      @@GregintheBox Hi Greg, how are u doing? Some updates on my situation and perhaps I can share something I learnt. I just purchased the Mackie ProFX6V3 based on YOUR recommendations. It was available from a local agent and I wasted no time. Now what they do not tell you in the instructions, nor is it automatically done when you connect your mixer to a WINDOWS computer (i think it differs for Macs). So, in order for your new ProFX6 mixer to work and be identified by your computer, you need to INSTALL the Mackie driver. This can be downloaded from the Mackie Support page. Once that is done, "voila!", you are good to go. Cheers! and thanks for your advice. Keep up the good work, it def helps many of us out there all ACROSS the globe.

    Came up on my feed today and, because I'm a broadcaster and teacher, I clicked and watched...really pleased I did. Excellent video with really good personal thoughts and advice. So refreshing to see. I had a Focusrite 2x2 for my voiceover work, but it stopped working after a few years and now I'm using a Behringer unit. However, a mixer is now on my shopping list for my English teaching videos and occasional lives. Thanks again for the informative video 👍

    Thanks! I'm looking to accompany dance classes via Zoom using keys and percussion (often simultaneously). Is it possible to connect keyboard (via midi) as well as mic'ed drums into the ART USB Mix 4, and feed that into Zoom? If not, what else might you suggest?
    If it is possible, can I connect keys via a midi to USB cable, or would I need midi to 1/4 or 1/8 inch cable?

    Hi Gred! This is by far the best video I’ve found... I absolutely LOVE the parrot and the singing demo! I have 3 questions:
    1. What is a good in-ear monitor to get? I’m a zumba instructor and a singer, so I’ll need to order the right Markie (I ordered the wrong one Mix8 with no USB outlet) but I don’t want to disturb my neighbors by blasting the zumba music thru my PA system (BoseL1)... so what is a good in-ear monitor that I can use for both zumba classes and singing performances?
    2. For both zumba and singing in-person, I usually use my laptop as the source for the pre-recorded musical accompaniment via six into my PA. Your video tutorial showed an external source (cell phone) into the mixer for the music. How can I pump the music from my laptop to the mixer then back into the zoom or stream platform? Or, will I have to use zoom’s share-screen (audio) option somehow?
    3. In your experience as a performer, which online platform is the best for a “virtual concert” - YT, FB, IG, Zoom, or Skype? I imagine that one-way streaming via YT, FB, or IG may be better than group conferencing on Zoom or Skype, but I’d appreciate your more experienced opinion.
    Thank you so much!

    Thanks for the review of the the ART Mix4USB, Greg.
    This mixer seems very similar to the Alesis Multimix 4 USB, which I purchased about 6 months ago for $100. The main differences are the ART has 3 mix options to Main whereas the Alesis has only 2. The other difference is that the Alesis has built-in effects. I'm wondering about the PreAmp quality on the ART. The Alesis is my first USB Mixer, and I'm not happy with the noise(static, pops) that gets into my DAW(Reaper) and JamKazam. I'm wondering how quiet the preamps are on the ART. I'm debating moving up to something like the FocusRite Scarlett 2i2 or the Mackie ProFX6v3.
    With any of these units, would it be possible to record my Guitar into the DAW while listening to a backing track(from the DAW) without re-recording the backing track along with the incoming Guitar Signal? Seems with the Alesis, I have to play with the Panning(in the DAW and on the Alesis) to achieve this. Elsewhere, I've read about implementing Mix-Minus as a feature or technique to achieve the desired result.
    What is the best way to do that(Record a New Guitar Track using a DAW Backing Track) with any of these units(ie. ART Mix4, Alesis Multimix4, Mackie ProFX6v3, FocusRite Scarlett)?
    Thanks Greg.

    Hi Greg thanks for this video, I really appreciate it👍🏽. I just have a question and I hope you can help me out. I just recently bought a Mackieprofx6v3 and I just want to if this good enough to record vocals and instruments? Or do you prefer using an audio interface like the focusrite 2i2? I have both of them, I'm just thinking that if I can use the Mackie as good or better than the focusrite, then I don't need the focusrite anymore. Looking forward to hear from you soon, thank you.

    • @GregintheBox
      @GregintheBox  3 года назад +1

      A very interesting question. I would say that each piece of equipment has its strength and weakness. No piece of kit will be the best at all things. The ProFX is a easy and affordable way to perform and live stream yourself and sound great, and its easy to use and setup in that context. For recording, it has great preamps and some compressors which does make for some great recording results, this said, when it comes to recording to seperate tracks, such as track 1 vox, track 2 guitar, the Focusrite actually works better in how it would interface with a recording software and monitoring of these seperate tracks etc. A little difficult to explain with out doing a video (i plan to), but to sum it up. ProFX for the win on live performing online, and definitely a high quality signal for recording, and the focusrite, not an all in one solution for fun live streaming and online performing, but a better functionality for recording 2 seperate tracks at the same time into a DAW (recording software). Take good care.

    • @GregintheBox
      @GregintheBox  3 года назад

      Hello there, sad to say that the UMC22 is a 2x2 interface. So it will allow you to connect 2 signals at the same time. You are asking if you can connect 3 signals, so unfortunately no, you are not able to achieve your goal with this interface on its own. interfaces are so cheap now, compared to years ago so consider something with more inputs. There is one thing you could try, if you have a regular mixer sitting around, you could use it to “sub-mix” your 3 signals down to 1 and then connect the out[ut of that mixer to the UMC22 interface. This said, make sure the mixer you use is not a powered mixer, I would not want you to damage your UMC22 by doing this incorrectly.
      the best option, if you can do it, is to upgrade to a 4 input interface. this way you have control and connection for all your signals.
      best of luck.

    Just tried to do a guitar lesson online and really struggled with guitar, voice, video and silent with sleeping kids. In my frustration I was refreshing my hunt for an audio interface, but this video was extremely helpful and informative. Thank you. Now, on to my question...
    I'm typically a Sweetwater shopper, but they offer either a 3-channel mixer with very few features, or the TubeMix 5-channel, which looks interesting. Have you used that? Curious how the two compare, as there's a price bump with the wood/tubes.
    Also, Mackie ProFX6v3 have the feature to turn off returned broadcast signal, as that was very compelling with the USBMix4. Apologies if that's really obvious, but it's all pretty new to me. Thanks again!

      Hi Dave, thanks a lot. I don't think you could go wrong with the Mackie ProFX6v3. I'm working on getting one in to do a trial and a video, but if you're in a hurry, I can't imagine you'd be disappointed with the functionality. The ability to control the return signal from the computer is more than supported by the button options and the blend control knob. Very flexible looking. Not to mention that the efx are an awesome add-in, who doesnt love rockin out with some grease (grease=reverb/delay)!

    Amazing video! Bought the board after seeing this! I've been having issues with my board, the mic signals seem very weak. I have to turn up the gain and levels way up to get my recording levels in the -24 to -10 range in Audacity. For context, this was using a Rode PodMic and also the SHURE PGA58.
    Just wondering if anyone else had trouble with the board? Any words of advice?

    • @GregintheBox
      @GregintheBox  3 года назад +1

      I have the Rode Pod mic and its shockingly low output wise. I have several interfaces and all require a big crank in the gain. I will say that i have no trouble getting a good level with a standard vocal mic plugged in this mixer, IE a Senn 835, also my electric acoustic signal didn't require extreme gain setting either. I'd try another mic to see if there is any difference. In the video I had the Sennheiser 835 set to 3oClock, and the guitar was at 12oClock. If yours is not performing at that level, then maybe it an issue with the unit. But try this, check to see if the main out level effects the recording level, if so, make sure its at a good level. And the mode switch will affect the recording behavior as well.
      Best of luck.

    • @GregintheBox
      @GregintheBox  4 года назад +2

      yes it will definitely function as a 2 channel recording interface with your DAW. This said, the only draw back with this little mixer is that it only works at a 16bit word depth. 24bit is preferred for pro recording these days. This is likely why it’s so affordable. And it’s great for hobbies ya and online jamming and live streaming yourself etc etc. As an added benifit it will work with your DAW but only at that lower bit depth. If you’re not familiar with the technical aspects of this, just think of it like a lower resolution. Still fine for a hobbyist but for a slightly better recording result I would consider the Mackie ProFX6v3. Only an extra $100 but the investment is worth it. 24bit ready, built in effects, and higher quality preamps(better sounding recordings). Check it out: ruclips.net/video/eQl55gr7I74/видео.html

      For a cellphone you'll need something designed for that task. I suggest the iRig Duo: www.ikmultimedia.com/products/irigproduo/ or my fav the Roland Go:Mixer Pro: www.roland.com/ca/products/gomixer_pro/
      Might be doing a video on the Roland unit soon. Its sitting next to me on my deck. Just need to find the time to make a video.

    This is usb class compliant. I connected it to my android tablet and used a app called open camera. In the app you’ll need to set the microphone setting to external. Use a usb B to C cable or a otg converter. The only downfall is the mixer needs power. So the tablet won’t power it on its own.

    That bird doesn’t understand a word you’re saying.
    I am like the bird in that respect.
