Great comparison, you've got another sub! The pro does look good but I've gone with the new 'plus' model - it's cheaper, has taped seams, you can swap the inner from 3 to 4 season, you can pack the inner separately, you can use the outer skin on it's own (450g), and you can use the inner with other tents (like the MLD Trailstar).
@@Tallpagangirl they do sell it, it's now their standard model. It's hard to find the older smaller model anymore. If you're interested it's the version with the 230cm long inner as opposed to the old 210cm inner.
I have the OG Lanshan 2P and was considering getting the Pro 1P for an upcoming JMT hike. I really liked that it was close in weight and features to more expensive UL tents (though sometimes hard to get the pitch perfect) but changed my mind when looking at prices. The Pro 1P was $180 and I was able to pick up a used Gossamer Gear The One for $220 and it was lighter and much nicer materials.
Great video! I have a lanshan pro 2 and love it. I bought it initially because I wanted more space and already use trekking poles but already had a tent and couldn't justify spending another $400. But now I find that it is perfect because I have an extra tent that allows my friends who don't have gear, but want to join me, to do so. It was an investment for myself, but now it is an investment for my friends too.
I'm a hammock camper but I have to tent in some places!! Ive been eyeballing these for months and now I'm kicking myself for not pulling the trigger. The 2 month wait kills me now. Haha. Great review dude!
I’m 5’8 and I definitely feel claustrofobic in the original Lanshan 1. I still love that little tent, but I’m seriously considering upgrading to the pro. The weight difference is a bonus too. I hope to be able to make someone happy with my old tent!
I have 3 of them: the summer PRO in gray, the winter PRO in green, and the winter PLUS (it’s the “original” Lanshan but bigger in size) in khaki. In hard winter (italian alps winter conditions) I use the brown one; otherwise the grey one is very good in summer. The green is something like late autumn condition. If I had to chose one for 3 season the PRO is a hell of a tent. BTW I am (almost) 6”.
@@cosmokenney 1400 grams for a free standing 2 person tent, that's really good actually weight wise. You just can't compare it to something like the lanshan.
The original - which is years-old, now - is something like 2.15kg with stakes, lines & bags, but they recently (take with salt, I am not a serious hiker with my finger on the pulse) came out with the Mongar Ultralight, which is 1.6kg with stakes, lines & bags. 🙂
I have the Lanshan 2Pro and I really like it. Plan on using it on my JMT hike this summer. But the more I see the 1Pro the more I like it as well. I may end up getting the 1Pro as well.
Hi Justin, great video that is ;) I have the Pro and I couldn’t be happier. Very light, roomy, packs down small and is relatively cheap. I have used even in deep winter and it performed just as well as in summer conditions. I wish it was made of silpoly though, so the sagging would be even less.
I just purchased the Pro. I am 6'1" 205lbs. With the original, I have to guy out the head side with a 20" custom tent pole. It gives me enough room to fit. The mesh is close. I'm looking forward to the Pro but I wanted to tell big guys how I used it.
Well explained sir! There's so much misconception about condensation out there, and you've addressed that simply and clearly. I'm very pleased with my Lanshan 1 Pro - simply the best budget ultralight 1-person tent out there right now.
My wife and I have the original Lanshan 2. We have been using it since Aug '18 and it has been on the vast majority of all our backpacking trips since. I am 5'10" and she is 5'2" we both fit but it is tight. For the $100 price I don't think any other trekking pole tent can compete. I am stratified with my purchase but this video has me thinking about picking up the pro2.

I am going to be taking my first ever overnight backpacking trip soon. I decided to go ahead and grab the Pro from Aliexpress. Pretty sure the friend who is planning the trip with me is also going to be picking up the Pro. A little nervous about messing up the seam sealing, but I am sure I can make it work! Just recently found this channel, glad that I did. Only a few hours north from me, hope to get back to Calgary one day once the border is opened again. If backpacking turns out to be something I get into heavily, can't wait to try and get some trips in Canada!
I am glad that the Lanshan Pro was not available when I bought a Zpacks Duplex three years ago. If it was, I would not have been able to make up my mind.

So good. I was looking for a decent backpacking tent... but I couldn't afford one. I've been using an old MSR Missing Link and the fabric is finally failing. This should fit the bill very nicely. Thank you for the recommendation.
Sounds like you didnt know how to setup the double wall tent or were to tall for that tent. Looks more like Lanshan is just copying Zpac tents ,but using 20D Silnylon instead of cuban fiber to shave off the extra 300$ . In 6 months Lanshan will come out with a taller version of 1 pro to compete with the Altaplex, only in 20D Lanshan 1 pro = Plexamid Lanshan 2 pro = Duplex I still like the double wall tents better because most of my camping is on a river bank and sometimes its just to nice outside for the rain fly, but want the bug screen. I understand that hikers break down camp every day and pack gear 20+ miles a day , I can understand tho why single wall tent is more desirable for pack size and weight. I am a base camp kinda guy and move camp every couple a days, so weight really comes 2nd after comfort when river camping. The Lanshan 2 original is my go to tent 90 percent of the time
I realize this video is a couple years old... with that being said, the double-wall non-pro Lanshan 1 has been available in a 230 cm version for about a year now. I have both, and that extra 20 cm makes a difference for me at 5'11".
Great review! Question... it appears as though the Pro has more highly reinforced patching at the tie out and guy line points (inner and outer patches) compared to the standard version. I saw another video that said they (pro) were Dyneema. Can you confirm or deny that there is/is not a difference, please? I'm leaning toward the standard, mostly due to the double wall setup, but concerned about the durability of these points. Thanks!
I have a Lanshan 1 Pro! Will you be doing the Lanshan 1 Pro vs the Altaplex review? I'm very curious about the inside space between the two. I'm 6'2" and have gotten a wet foot box (in the winter I will admit) with the Lanshan.
I have a hillaberg akto but seriously considering buying the lanshan pro as the akto is to warm in the summer and the weight in comparison is over double and the pack size is a big difference the lanshan is the ideal tent for summer camping if wanting to travel ultralight also I don’t use trekking poles much and saw you can buy telescopic poles for the lanshan. Can’t beleave how light and small the tent is only downfall is the durability only really good for good weather but that’s all I will buy it for.

I have a 2019 Lanshan 2, with an extra winter inner. I like it. At 6', 200lbs., I like the extra space it affords me on solo trips. My wife feels it is too tight for duo trips, so I recently purchased us a Locus Gear DCF 4p mid tent with a 3p net inner. At 3.2 lbs., we can split the carry. It is huge. I have not had a chance to use it. I wish somebody made an mesh inner for the Lanshan 2 that expanded the insIde into one of the vestibules, with the trekking poles on pitched angles. This would really open up the space for two people. My wife (or a dog, for some folks - no offense, Sweetie) can crawl over me to get to the exit, no problem. She tends to only get up once in the night to pee - when I do. So having one entrance would be no big deal.
Just ordered the Lanshan 1 based on this video. I sorta want them to have the two layers. I like the concept of the Pro but I want separate to use them individually if I need.

I like my current tent (REI Quater Dome 2) but it is 4 pounds, 2 oz and I'd like to get to near 2 pounds. Plus, I don't want to spend what ZPacks wants for their tents. So... I'm thinking of buying a Lanshan Pro. You did an exellent job with your review and comparion, and it is much appreciated. Questions, when I order one of these tents: 1. I bought a lanshan 1 pro last year,,it's a perfect solo tent for me,light,good quality and I don't have not realy problem with condensation,I bought a grey color,but now 3f ul have a beautiful kaki
I have the Lanshan 2 OG. The inner doesn’t sag as much as your 1p does in this video. You’d probably be ok up to 6’. I share it with my 11 yo son, and it’s ok with a small person. I wouldn’t want to share it with another adult I wasn’t comfortable getting REALLY close to.
I’ve just got their new version of the Lanshan. It’s the same size inner as the pro 230 x 90 cm but has the inner and outer like the standard version. 15D fabric and you don’t need to seam seal it. There’s just 11 days until lockdown restrictions end in the UK that’ll allow me to get out and test it, I can’t wait.
I'm still going out with my Coleman Cobra 2, which I love and hate at the same time, but this Lanshan 1 Pro is sort of a beauty to me (plus I only use 1 trekking pole in general). I think I'll try to wait it over though :)))
Incredible price point! I'm trying to imagine my Spark2 1person tent against these, though it's double walled/poled. But the interior space looks v. similar.
I bought a Lanshan 1, slept in it once and then swapped it out from a Lanshan 2 pro. I’m 5’ 10” and i found the original 1 to be way too small. Definitely stay away if you’re over 5’ 8” unless you constantly want your feet and face touching the net, which gets really really annoying
At 5'10, I've found the original JUST big enough to be comfortable with a good pitch and using the guylines. Without using the guylines, I sometimes do touch the mesh with my face.
I liked the way you applied your seam sealer, I foolishly used the syringe they gave me and applied it too heavy. I too would like to see more about the new 2021 1-Plus hopefully they will send you review unit for your next comparison. Looks like they took your advise and made the walls 15D thus keeping the weight the same as the 1-Pro. Looks like they also gave away some interior width on the 1-Plus interior. The 1-Pro is 110/90cm while the 1-Plus net interior is 100/80cm. I wonder how that impacts your head space width when sitting up. The backwall would tend to slope in faster on the narrower 1-Plus but it might not be a big deal as it is only the netting. Kind of looks like they are not making the 1-Pro any more as they seem to be getting scarce or perhaps that's due to your video. Look forward to your next comparison. Thanks for this great comparison video. Perhaps they make 15D wall, 20D floor 1-Pro in 2022 to lose a few ounces :)
i think mine is an early version i purchased a few years ago. i absolutely hate this tent. i wonder if mine was made incorrectly. it is just about impossible to pitch. i've watched all the how to videos, and still can't get it to work
I've had the Lanshan out in some crazy wind and rain and it has held up great. The Lanshan has actually looked better in extreme conditions on trips than some super popular tents (also usually made in Asia).
I used to think the Lanshans were the best for the price for the dollar. I have the Lanshan 2. I decided the Dan Durston X-Mids were best. I have both, 1p and 2p. The Silpoly doesn't sag, and both have more space inside and in the vestibules.
The X-mids look like great tents (hoping to try out the 2P this year), but the X-mid 1p is still over twice the price of the Lanshan 1 Original and 50% more than the Lanshan Pro. That's nothing to sneeze at!
The xmid is more expensive, but in terms of best value it's hard to beat, alot more space in the xmid with the huge double vestibules, and double pole set up giving more head room, and since its shipped from amazon in Canada, you only have to wait a few days, not months for it to arrive 😂 the only time I'd get the lanshan would be if budget was the biggest concern and I couldn't stretch to the price of the xmid
I hammock camp the majority of the time because of the heat here in Florida. On occasion when I'm not in my Hammock I have used the Six Moons Lunar Solo. Those Lanshan tents sure look a lot like the Six Moons Lunar Solo tent. A comparison would be interesting. I recently switched tents , to a Dan Durston X-Mid 1 , solo , because of the Silpoly material. It does not sag or adsorb water. Better yet it is super easy to erect , packs small and is light weight while offering decent interior room.
I'm 6'6 (200cm) tall and am on the market for an ultralight backpacking tent. Do you think I would fit in the 1 pro? Does staking out the extra tie in points on either end make a difference? If no, any tent you'd recommend that's in the ultralight category and would be suitable for a tall guy like me? Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
I don't think the 1 Pro would work for you unfortunately - even with the side guylines pulled out. You may have to go with a 2-person tent and sleep diagonally.
Hey Justin! camping newbie question here: I'm planning a 2-3 days trip to Lake O'Hara and potentially Berg Lake and I'm contemplating this tent since I gotta be as light as I can within my budget. Would you recommend using this tent with or without footprint?

Maybe Lanshan 2 Pro, or Lanshan 1 Pro. though they are cheap. I don't want to have extra tents just laying around though.
If I wasn't going on a 40-day thru-hike, I would have stuck with and been perfectly happy with the Lanshan 1 Pro as my go-to tent for weekend and 4-7 day trips. But that would also have been dictated by my budget. haha
There are only so many ways you can design a tent and I am all for companies iterating on designs. If a patent was being infringed upon, then that would be a different story.

The aliexpress pole is what I used for the Pro and the Cascade Mountain tech pole is what I used for the Original. Both work great for either tent though!
A titanium wood stove weighs between 2 to 4 pounds, depending on the one you own. You can easily install a fiberglass stovejack in the floorless part of those tents (vestibule) or a tarp you may use for an extended vestibule. At that point you've got a heated tent and you can cook on the wood stove

Interestingly, 3FUL have released a 2021 update to the OG and it's now just as long as the Pro.

Those are the two biggest factors for choosing in my opinion too!
The size depends on the version (before or after 2021) but you can find a lanshan 1 (not pro) with 230cm

Take your time and the sealing will go smoothly! It's not as tough as it seams (couldn't help myself).

You should try xmid 1p or 2p. But they are so hot now that is almost impossible to buy them atm.

Being 6'3 really sucks sometimes. Great when your at a concert, but horrible when shopping for the big 3 for backpacking gear.
They made this model longer now so you should fit in also that tall

I have a Lanshan 1 Pro! Will you be doing the Lanshan 1 Pro vs the Altaplex review? I'm very curious about the inside space between the two. I'm 6'2" and have gotten a wet foot box (in the winter I will admit) with the Lanshan.

I have a hillaberg akto but seriously considering buying the lanshan pro as the akto is to warm in the summer and the weight in comparison is over double and the pack size is a big difference the lanshan is the ideal tent for summer camping if wanting to travel ultralight also I don’t use trekking poles much and saw you can buy telescopic poles for the lanshan. Can’t beleave how light and small the tent is only downfall is the durability only really good for good weather but that’s all I will buy it for.
Lanshan 1 and 2 2021 is larger like the pro.
I know that they will have a Lanshan Plus out which is essentially a longer Lanshan OG, but I didn't think it was completely replacing the OG.

I have a 2019 Lanshan 2, with an extra winter inner.
I like it. At 6', 200lbs., I like the extra space it affords me on solo trips.
My wife feels it is too tight for duo trips, so I recently purchased us a Locus Gear DCF 4p mid tent with a 3p net inner. At 3.2 lbs., we can split the carry. It is huge. I have not had a chance to use it.
I wish somebody made an mesh inner for the Lanshan 2 that expanded the insIde into one of the vestibules, with the trekking poles on pitched angles. This would really open up the space for two people. My wife (or a dog, for some folks - no offense, Sweetie) can crawl over me to get to the exit, no problem. She tends to only get up once in the night to pee - when I do. So having one entrance would be no big deal.
Just ordered the Lanshan 1 based on this video. I sorta want them to have the two layers. I like the concept of the Pro but I want separate to use them individually if I need.

Hi Justin. I'm an AT section hiker (age 69) and I've finally decided I need to downsize the weight in my pack (age is a good teacher).
I like my current tent (REI Quater Dome 2) but it is 4 pounds, 2 oz and I'd like to get to near 2 pounds.
Plus, I don't want to spend what ZPacks wants for their tents.
So... I'm thinking of buying a Lanshan Pro.
You did an exellent job with your review and comparion, and it is much appreciated.

I bought a lanshan 1 pro last year,,it's a perfect solo tent for me,light,good quality and I don't have not realy problem with condensation,I bought a grey color,but now 3f ul have a beautiful kaki
I have the Lanshan 2 OG. The inner doesn’t sag as much as your 1p does in this video. You’d probably be ok up to 6’.
I share it with my 11 yo son, and it’s ok with a small person. I wouldn’t want to share it with another adult I wasn’t comfortable getting REALLY close to.
I’ve just got their new version of the Lanshan. It’s the same size inner as the pro 230 x 90 cm but has the inner and outer like the standard version. 15D fabric and you don’t need to seam seal it. There’s just 11 days until lockdown restrictions end in the UK that’ll allow me to get out and test it, I can’t wait.

I have the OG Lanshan 2. Gotta have room for Mr. Dog. I liked it so much I got the 4 season inner for it. I just wish it were a bit lighter.
I'm still going out with my Coleman Cobra 2, which I love and hate at the same time, but this Lanshan 1 Pro is sort of a beauty to me (plus I only use 1 trekking pole in general). I think I'll try to wait it over though :)))

I bought a Lanshan 1, slept in it once and then swapped it out from a Lanshan 2 pro. I’m 5’ 10” and i found the original 1 to be way too small. Definitely stay away if you’re over 5’ 8” unless you constantly want your feet and face touching the net, which gets really really annoying
At 5'10, I've found the original JUST big enough to be comfortable with a good pitch and using the guylines. Without using the guylines, I sometimes do touch the mesh with my face.
I liked the way you applied your seam sealer, I foolishly used the syringe they gave me and applied it too heavy. I too would like to see more about the new 2021 1-Plus hopefully they will send you review unit for your next comparison. Looks like they took your advise and made the walls 15D thus keeping the weight the same as the 1-Pro. Looks like they also gave away some interior width on the 1-Plus interior. The 1-Pro is 110/90cm while the 1-Plus net interior is 100/80cm. I wonder how that impacts your head space width when sitting up. The backwall would tend to slope in faster on the narrower 1-Plus but it might not be a big deal as it is only the netting. Kind of looks like they are not making the 1-Pro any more as they seem to be getting scarce or perhaps that's due to your video. Look forward to your next comparison. Thanks for this great comparison video. Perhaps they make 15D wall, 20D floor 1-Pro in 2022 to lose a few ounces :)

i think mine is an early version i purchased a few years ago. i absolutely hate this tent. i wonder if mine was made incorrectly. it is just about impossible to pitch. i've watched all the how to videos, and still can't get it to work
Sounds like you may have a dud. I have several Lanshan tents and friends with them too and all have been great!

I use a lanshan 1. I don't trust its quality. I don't know if it can hold up in severe weather because its made in China. I use it only in the summer.
I've had the Lanshan out in some crazy wind and rain and it has held up great. The Lanshan has actually looked better in extreme conditions on trips than some super popular tents (also usually made in Asia).
I used to think the Lanshans were the best for the price for the dollar. I have the Lanshan 2. I decided the Dan Durston X-Mids were best. I have both, 1p and 2p. The Silpoly doesn't sag, and both have more space inside and in the vestibules.
The X-mids look like great tents (hoping to try out the 2P this year), but the X-mid 1p is still over twice the price of the Lanshan 1 Original and 50% more than the Lanshan Pro. That's nothing to sneeze at!
Good to know. I'm curious to know where the Durston tents are made. Anything that isn't made in China is a plus these days.

@@burtwonderstone5315 I believe the x-mids are made in Vietnam in the same factories as some MSR tents.
The xmid is more expensive, but in terms of best value it's hard to beat, alot more space in the xmid with the huge double vestibules, and double pole set up giving more head room, and since its shipped from amazon in Canada, you only have to wait a few days, not months for it to arrive 😂 the only time I'd get the lanshan would be if budget was the biggest concern and I couldn't stretch to the price of the xmid
I hammock camp the majority of the time because of the heat here in Florida. On occasion when I'm not in my Hammock I have used the Six Moons Lunar Solo. Those Lanshan tents sure look a lot like the Six Moons Lunar Solo tent. A comparison would be interesting. I recently switched tents , to a Dan Durston X-Mid 1 , solo , because of the Silpoly material. It does not sag or adsorb water. Better yet it is super easy to erect , packs small and is light weight while offering decent interior room.
I've always been curious about the Lunar Solo but couldn't justify picking one up. The Lunar Solo vs Lanshan Pro would be a great comparison though!

I'm 6'6 (200cm) tall and am on the market for an ultralight backpacking tent. Do you think I would fit in the 1 pro? Does staking out the extra tie in points on either end make a difference? If no, any tent you'd recommend that's in the ultralight category and would be suitable for a tall guy like me? Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
I don't think the 1 Pro would work for you unfortunately - even with the side guylines pulled out. You may have to go with a 2-person tent and sleep diagonally.
Have you found a suitable tent in the meantime? Have the same length and I am still struggling to find a tent which is long enough.

Hey Justin! camping newbie question here: I'm planning a 2-3 days trip to Lake O'Hara and potentially Berg Lake and I'm contemplating this tent since I gotta be as light as I can within my budget. Would you recommend using this tent with or without footprint?
I used the footprint once and haven't brought it again since. I don't really see the need for it with the denier of these fabrics.

You probably need to go with a 2-person tent like the Lanshan 2 Pro. The 2021 Lanshan 1 with double wall and a longer footprint might work too!

Thanks bro for the review. Been thinking of buying this or the Zpacks atlaplex or duplex. But the price is over my budget. I already have two tents, but I need something lighter. Maybe Lanshan 2 Pro, or Lanshan 1 Pro. though they are cheap. I don't want to have extra tents just laying around though.
If I wasn't going on a 40-day thru-hike, I would have stuck with and been perfectly happy with the Lanshan 1 Pro as my go-to tent for weekend and 4-7 day trips. But that would also have been dictated by my budget. haha

Aren’t these shameless copycats of the SMD Lunar Solo, which uses a polyester fabric that doesn’t sag in wet conditions? ...
There are only so many ways you can design a tent and I am all for companies iterating on designs. If a patent was being infringed upon, then that would be a different story.

Are the poles linked in the description what you use to set up the lanshan 1 pro?
The aliexpress pole is what I used for the Pro and the Cascade Mountain tech pole is what I used for the Original. Both work great for either tent though!

What’s the difference between the 3 & 4 season on the 2 pro?
The inner walls are solid on the 4-season and mesh on the 3-season :)

A titanium wood stove weighs between 2 to 4 pounds, depending on the one you own. You can easily install a fiberglass stovejack in the floorless part of those tents (vestibule) or a tarp you may use for an extended vestibule. At that point you've got a heated tent and you can cook on the wood stove
