- In this video I show my process for plein air painting a rose. I show my rose oil painting process, starting with blocking in darker colors, then adding lighter colors, and finally refining details. Plein air painting a rose is a great way to study light and color from direct observation.

Thanks! I'm glad the explanation was helpful :)
Lovely painting! Very enjoyable video!
Thank you!
Great video and the painting turned out amazing. Impressive to do that with plein air! Roses are so complicated yet you simplified it very beautifully.
Thank you! Yes, they are so hard to paint... I've painted them many times at this point, and it's still a great challenge each time.
Soooooo stunning ❤
Thanks Annek! :)
Beautiful!
Thank you!
making the shadows less black... what a neat idea!
gonna implement that to achieve a softer, more lifelike look.
Awesome, glad you found it helpful! Happy painting :)
GREAT video!!!!
Thanks Kurt!
So beautiful thank you!
Thanks Jim! :)
I just ordered it. I'm really excited to have one of your works!
@@jameswester333 thanks so much, Jim! Got the order and I’ll send it out to you this week ❤️
It’s beautiful! You’re very brave to keep going after you’ve laid down the color. Often times I get worried I’m gonna mess myself up or overwork it. I really love the ethereal quality of this!
Thanks Madison! Yes, sometimes I end up overworking it haha. But I'm learning to find a balance :)
Great job!
Thank you!
Love this painting, your process too! Palette knife work most interesting! Thank you for sharing your talents!!
Thank you!
Bijoetifoel !
Love watching your process, Christina! Your combination of brush and knife are very effective. May I ask: What brush are you using? It looks like a bright or flat with a nice crisp edge. Thanks in advance!
Thanks Karen! The brush is a synthetic flat - it's from one of the value packs you can get at the art store. I like to use the cheaper brushes for plein air since they can get banged up a bit when traveling haha.
Great painting 🎨
Thanks Cedric!
@@christinakentart keep up the good work 🎨
Beautiful painting, is the surface a gesso board or canvas on panel? thanks for sharing your process.
Thank you! The surface is Ampersand's gessobord
I love how the rose turned out! 😍 What colour do you use for the underpainting? Thanks!!
Thank you! Here I was using burnt sienna for the underpainting.
