They make floor boards that run up on each side. Can’t wait to see it with the 292 in it,… just got my 70 with a 250” L6 with powerglide running,…good luck and keep us posted!
Such a great project. I'm currently working on a 69 nova. My first nova was a 71. I think I have a couple set of door panels that are still usable that you can have. Nova's arc has my vote! 👍👍
The carpet looked like it was still usable. Just take it to the spray carwash hose, brush it, rinse it and hang it to dry. The back seat looks usable after cleaning. I guess zip ties for the headliner work as well as 50 safety pins. I have good luck with seatbelts soaking them in a bucket of hot water and laundry soap.
@@richardholdener1727 Long intake runners: ruclips.net/user/shortsucwd3bbgzj8 Put one of these in there, just replace the muffler with a turbo. Should be great fun, until the subframe beaks loose from the floorboard.
The seats are missing the support brackets meant for buckets, that was definitely a split bench seat car before if they had through bolts holding them in. I am so excited for your project!
Nova's Ark.. Everything I see that needs fixed body panel wise can be gotten and replaced, Floor pans, Fenders, Quarter Panels. I used to own a '70 Nova Much like that one and the same color..Loved that car!
Vote for novas ark. Also I have a. 8.5 in my nova, use a mini spool for twin tire action and hasnt had any issues in 6000 miles. Competition engineering traction bars are cheap and work well, while 300 hp wont rotate the world... they allowed me to hook on the street well with regular street tires.
Love it, i weighed all the dirt and dust that came out of my wagon, one owner it was, looked clean, but was chockers with crud that started to vibrate loose. Nothing like yours, but pulled out 30 pounds out of the rails, different parts of the frame and the voids......you probably have double that.
Noah’s ark was never under water. Submarines on the other hand go under water and so did this car. The color and the month it was acquired also is more fitting to the name
You just need to find one of the common car guys out there that once bought a Nova with rusty floors. About 50% of the car guys I grew up around would buy a car, parts for the car, then after a couple years of doing nothing with that car they would sell it. I bet plenty of your watchers have Nova parts around that they didn't end up using... Come on guys, help a Richard out. This would bring one of the best testing base points that I really badly want to see you do. I frequently do chassis dyno and engine dyno work since it's my day job. Most guys don't understand the power loss difference and you will be able to cover that as well as drag test. This is the best thing for your page ever. Thank you and your patient wife... Seriously...
Nova's Ark.....named my 82 c10 Gary Busey 😂 had a set of gauges mounted under the dash with a Gary Busey face sticker on it..was either that or Buddy Holley 😂😎
I have built several 3rd gen novas and I would highly suggest cutting out the floors and installing a 1 piece floor pan, your life and anyone else’s is worth the time and money to fix. In the long run you will save time and you can do this job with a helper in 2 1/2 days and under $600. Including cutting disk flapper wheels and weld through primer. The floor is the base of a solid car, cut cost somewhere else, just my opinion. Love the Nova project and your videos
I love this series bro. It's a huge help for a guy like me to see a "trashed" car come back to life if u take it slow and simple can't wait to see this car get life again
When i got my 72 Van Nuys Nova, we called it 50 Shades of gray. 5 years later and almost complete we call it super nova! I've got some spare parts I'll round up for you. Btw next year i plan on your gen6 tt 454 recipe as a upgrade! Novas ark is great!
I think it'd be fine to take an interior/deal with one of the suppliers.. You're an engine guy. A solid interior would go a long way towards bringing the Nova back. This Nova is a superb starting point.
Mudder Nova, but other names good also... I always thought California cars did not rust? The Nova’s floor panels looks like it spent time in the salt belt? Parked on the beachfront maybe...
That Nova is an original bench seat car. That's why there no original mounting holes towards the tunnel for the seats. With you needing floor pans, you can change that. Sweet find on the build sheet. That's a treasure that should be framed!
@@richardholdener1727 Yep. Do a search online and you can see pictures of bench seat Nova's with a floor shifter. Like 69 Nova's with L78 396/375 HP, 4-speed Tranny. Bucket seat floor pans have extra mounting humps. Look up Nova Bucket seat brackets and you will see what they look like.
I bought a new POS Nova like this one in 1972. It was a 307 with automatic. What a roach. It was pumping oil at 30,000 and the paint was falling off it in pieces the size of potato chips. I couldn't wait to unload this steaming pile and ended up trading for a '72 VW Transporter......best deal I ever made was getting the VDub. What a waste, Richard......restoring that Nova would make me feel like a condemned man.
Get the biggest best quality replacement pieces, GM licensed pieces seem to fit the best, just did the floors and rockers of a 67 c10, came out nice, some panels were poor fitting garbage, some were not.
A word of advice on the floor pans; buy the single piece ones that include the front and rear. I’ve done it both ways but it’s quicker to do it one side at a time rather than 4 individual pans.
Please keep it a manual transmission car. I might prefer a four or five speed, but in any case a car accellerating away with a manual sounds so much cooler
That car looks to have had a rear window defroster. The car came with an 8.5 rear. 72 was the first year for that size. It should be a JI code, stamped on the passenger side axle tube. I say go with Red October for the name.
I had 3 buddy’s in high school that had 69 -71 novas with same 250 3 speed. All went to v8 and 4 speed. One guy got ahold of a vette 427 with 3 dueces. Left in the stock peg leg rear end and that car would spin that one wheel for ever .
I took the upholstery off a seat and threw it in the washing machine. Came out brand new looking. It was cloth but if you carefully removed the vinyl it might be easier to clean. Lots of labor but hog rings are cheap.
Nova's Ark, I'm about to start on one of my own projects, (75 Scout) that's in about the same condition. Except it has a seized 345 and complete drivetrain. Good luck 💪
I personally like Nova's Arc but that's just my choice they're all good
Novas Ark due to the number of engines it will have in it. That's my vote.
Perhaps 2 of each

I really like the red october name, it fits the car
Thumbs up, but I do think we are out voted. I will not accept the results if Red October doesn't win, and will continue to refer to it as such. 🤓🍀😥
Unless it gets painted, then it's okay.
Yeah, me too
Put me in for nova's ark.
Just call it the rustbucket...

Nova’s Ark is my favorite
Red October all the way! Someone loved that car it has the upgraded Chevelle seats instead of factory Nova highback 72 seats. Hang onto those!
The seats are missing the support brackets meant for buckets, that was definitely a split bench seat car before if they had through bolts holding them in. I am so excited for your project!

Nova's Ark. It will have all sorts of engines under the hood. All creatures great and small.

Gonna be biblical.
Nova's Ark for sure!

My brother had a 71 Nova with same drivetrain. Those factory floor shifters are kinda unique.

Honestly, based on the rear quarters I was expecting far worse. That's at least manageable. The rockers don't look completely gone.
red october i had one just like it. I had a 283 wiht a maual power glide. with 373 gears
