- This is part 2 of my 1972 Nova interior restoration and conversion from blue to all black. This has new bucket seats, carpeting and sound dampening all the way from the firewall to the rear seat backing wall.
Much more content in this video. Good job.
Use a big screwdriver. Pry up on the spring arm and slip it on top of the roller. Insert the spring then pry the arm back over the roller. Works like a charm.
Compress the spring in a vice, use zip ties or baling wire to keep compressed, slip in place and then cut the zip ties or baling wire (try and tie on at least two sides of spring, four would be best) otherwise use a some kind of pry tool but that will cause scratching! Let me know how it works out for you.
Yep that's exactly what I did. Worked great.
@@stevesgarage7644 Glad to hear you got it fixed, I have had three or four older model cars that had the spring in the hinges and the pin bushings seem to wear out quickly. I had the same problem till I figured out the best way (At least for me) to put all he bushing, pin and spring back together
Did you butt weld those panels in or did you overlap them ?
Overlapped.
Love the videos, how did the self adhesive duct foil work? And how did you install the carpet? I got a 72 nova 350 4door sedan
The duct foil worked perfectly. I would definitely use it again. Saved me lots of $$$$$. The carpet comes pre-molded so it was just lay it in there and attach the moldings. For the shifter I used a heat gun to relax the housing area a bit, although it didn't flatten it out as much as I wanted. One day I may come back to it and make it look a bit better.
I have a 68 also need the same brackets.. Once you changed the height was it enough? I currently have a bench seat so once I line the bolts up the 2 existing holes it should just line up to drill the second two? How far does the bucket go forward my wife is short and she has trouble with reaching on the current bench
Yep just mount the bracket on the 2 holes and drill the other 2. It goes forward quite a bit. She'll have no trouble at all.
Can u tell me what led light ur using in the video. I am doing the same thing as u but on a 57 Chevy 210
Assuming you mean the portable ones...

Flashlight type: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01A70W4N8?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
That’s the one. Thank you. Love the nova build ur doing. I’m just starting a 57 Chevy build myself
Yeah I like the standup one. It's a rechargeable but has the ion battery so it's a good one.
How’s your bucket seat height like when your sitting in the seat? Does your head hit roof or feels way too high?
Ur wire speed it to high thats why it looks loke a sparkler and makes popcorn welds I struggled with that on my 72 as well. Practice on some scrap metal to get ur welder set up lol it will save u alota grinding
Yeah I'm a major junior guy on this welder. Thanks for the tip! I'll get better.
How did you get the kick panels out? A 70 SS is my first project car and im learning as i go but i cant seem to get them out
Well, that's an issue. I could get the left side out, but not the right. I think the right front fender has to come off to get to the vent assembly and I'm not doing that. So I will have to work around the vent there.
you can reach it from behind the blower motor hole on the firewall theres a pin and spring that holds it in but first you have to get a knife and cut the adhesive around the kickpanel from in inside the car then reach back through the hole behind the blower motor remove the pin and spring and it will come out
Will bucket seats fit in a 4 door
Yes. You just have to determine which seat you have now and get the adapter brackets to convert from that seat to the bucket seats. Classic Industries has the adapter brackets too.
@@stevesgarage7644 thank for your advice
They make a door spring tool. Also did you change the front seat belts when you went with bucket seats?
No I kept the original seat belts. They bolted right up and fit perfectly, including the shoulder harness.
Hi, I was looking through your videos and I was just wondering if you had to replace the head liner in your car? I have 74 nova, when I bought the car it didn’t have anything covering the foam. I want to get that covered up just not really sure how to go about it.
No I didn't have to replace mine. It looks like somebody did it already. I would think there are some RUclips videos out there, for Nova or Camaro, that might help though.
Hey Steve, me again lol. Did you do a video on installing new window regulators and putting the window back in?
No I haven't done anything with the windows. They are all still original.
I wish I had a large enough garage to work on my Nova during the winter. But it'll have to be wrapped up in a tarp over the winter sadly. I have a very small garage barely big enough for a small car to park and its too short for the Nova to fit. Its only good for half a car in and do small repairs. Lol
Trust me. I am soooo blessed to have the garage I do. I look at it in disbelief sometimes. It's been a life dream. I had to build it all myself with my two hands to keep the cost down. But work with what you have. Get one of those kerosene heaters to blast at you to make it work!
@@stevesgarage7644 haha thx for the encouraging words! Sweet ride. I have a 1970 Nova with the i6 I just got a few weeks ago. Runs and drives. Needs a little work. I'd like to paint it black maybe. I'm building in my small garage a 350 v8 for it I'd like to swap in it next summer. Haha
Can you compress door spring in vice & zip tie it until it’s installed. Then cut zippys? I’m brainstorming so bear with me...
That is a great concept. Zip ties wont hold that kind of pressure but I have some bailing wire that would. I'm going to try that. Thanks for the help!
@@stevesgarage7644 did it work?
@@chuckiphicus7675 Yep, worked perfectly.
@@stevesgarage7644 Nice
Is your carpet two piece or one.
Two piece. One for the front, one for the rear. The front overlaps the rear by a few inches.
Where did you order your 2 piece carpet
@@steelers4lifewz Luttys Chevy warehouse it’s Out of Cheswick Is wear I picked Mine up. Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. It’s great quality. Let me know if you need the phone number. I think it was like around 150 bucks. Look up nova restoration 1971 nova project. On RUclips. You can see my carpet in one of those videos. I think it’s in with the door panel installation. But you might have to look for it while you’re there give me a thumbs up and subscribe LOL.
Thank you very much Steve.. I will definitely subscribe.. love all the work and detail.. definitely if you have the number or website greatly appreciated.. definitely place an order ASAP
Do the seats sit up really high?
Yes. About 2 inches higher than stock seats. I had to cut and re-weld the mounting frames.
Where did you purchase the rails and brackets
The rails come with the seat itself, if you're meaning the adjuster rails to slide forward and backwards. The mounting bracket I bought from ClassicIndustries.com, same as the Pro-90 seats. They are for the conversion from bench to bucket. Hope that helps!
Where did you get the bucket seats?
Classicindustries.com
i'm curious why you chose to use duct insulation, is it a cost thing, a performance thing, a cost to performance thing, etc
Cost, and it works just as well. :)
iv seen a compression tool for that .
Zip ties
Does the seat mounts use any of the factory holes or do you have to drill all 4
Yes the mounting brackets, made for this model and year, mount those seats to this car.
@@stevesgarage7644 thanks
