    Toronto is the ideal place for Kawhi. Has a coach who treats him like a partner and not a student. Has Lowry who can be the vocal leader. Has teammates who are true professionals, get better each day, and who just want to win. Is in a city that is a major market without the media craziness of other big cities. Kawhi can just do his thing, kick ass, and lead by example.

      You also forgot to mention the fact that this team and the whole organization will always support each other and will never turn their backs against one another. This is not like the Spurs where the coach, media, and a player will turn on you, Kawhi Leonard can be himself and he won't be judged or condemned. Kawhi Leonard being much happier, being more vocal in the media in my opinion is an indication that he is happy here. Also, this team doesn't have old dogs that can butt heads with each other, a lot of our guys are young and is disciplined to follow leaders and coaches, you can see how Kawhi and Green imbued a winning culture with this squad.

    Nurse is a new NBA head coach, he will be and is different from Pop. Different is not bad just not the same. Kawhi is also different from a NBA rookie. Nurse can ask and probably does ask all his players what they see on the court and make decisions based on their information to change strategies, matchups and weaknesses. Raptors are an experienced team with smart, young, athletes. Nurse I think is doing OK, and has not been ...out coached very often. Perhaps he will develop and become a revered coach in time.

    They took blatant shots at Nick Nurse and Kawhi. Grant was right, Leonard doesn’t back down from anyone. Saying that he was only great because of who his coach was discredits Kawhi as a player and also undermines Nurse as a coach. These guys were great in their day, but I’ll never understand why people feel so compelled to uplift someone by insulting someone else. Just say Greg Popovich is a great coach and let that be it. There are numerous examples to back that up without taking shots at Nurse and Leonard, while knit picking at how he went to the bench. Really It?! The bashing of Nurse, who has a solid coaching resume in his own regard, and the disrespect to Kawhi is laughable. Makes me lose respect for those guys as analysts and good for Grant for keeping it objective and not letting those over-opinionated guys and their thoughts speak for the majority.

      In a new age where old systems and plays has been seen and analyzed and effectively countered, many NBA teams need to new age thinkers that will transform and catch other teams by a storm. You saw that with Golden State with their vicious three pointers changing the NBA itself, Nick Nurse is bringing the Raptors to a new age and playing a new different, unique kind of basketball that can be influential around the league. He is not an old dog hence why in my opinion he can make easier and better in game adjustment than Casey ever could. The game against the Grizzlies was perfect, he's a true strategist, that is innovative and unpredictable. He is showing a great understanding of his players and how he can use them effectively and maximize theire potential. Only a few coach has that kind of ability, so far in just quarter of the season he accomplished so much more than Casey's entire 7 year career, no young players have ever progress this much with Casey and players like JV and Ibaka under achieved massively, but some how with Nurse they are having the time of their lives and the team has imbued a culture of selfless team work which I felt we never had.

      @@junkim5853 i like the flow of your analysis. quite technical for me but i have high hopes for raptors to succeed
      here's my 1 cent observation: Nurse is lucky to have an intact team with team-grown talent maturing plus solid reinforcement from 2-way kawhi and 3-and-D green is unexpectedly a great bonus.
      as rookie head coach, Nurse seems not confident yet (body language/opinion in interviews) as well as decision-making and command but hes confidence is growing each game in wins and losses
      2nd) iso is more of a vulnerability (long term) which should be minimized (predictable and will surely be countered/checked during playoff adjustment by opposing teams)
      3rd) hence, team play with extra pass should be encouraged to make it more confortable as second nature going forward to reach playoff peak form for the team
      (it also instill trust and better confidence among teammates on the floor which often result in better playing)
      i cant wait for the 1st meeting this season for the warriors-raptors game... few more hoursssss :-)

    • @junkim5853
      @junkim5853 5 лет назад

      @@ricky_ph9774 Me too thanks for your compliments. To add to your 3rd its amazing how the team completely transformed. Last year this team went back to their iso plays in pressure situations (when they were behind) this year they don't do that at all (maybe once). The fact that Green and Leonard are not ball dominant players make a huge difference, it gives more confidence to the whole team and make them feel they are a part of something bigger. We can see that in full effect with Siakam and the rest of our bigs just tearing teams apart. The bench mob has been inconsistent at times but they have been facing some injuries so I expect them to be better as the season goes on. Even if we go back to iso if there are no other options, it doesn't matter, unlike Derozan, Leonard and Green are proven winners/champions, they playing championship winning basketball, they will make a block or shot that wins you the game. Raptors vs Celtics 2nd game of the season was the perfect preview both Leonard and Green blocking a crucial Tatum's shot and then striking dagger at the throat of Boston. These two know how to win and they know how to lead a team and assure the young team with their championship experience.

    • @junkim5853
      @junkim5853 5 лет назад +2

      I agree 100% Nick Nurse doesn't have the mob mentality or a cult kind. Greg is like a cult leader and anyone that doesn't obey and follow his system and command will be attacked. He has always instructed many players on what to say and how to say it in the media, I feel Kawhi is definitely happier and the Raptors organization are much more flexible, understanding, and supportive of their players than San Antonio Spurs. We also have to take into the factor that Greg Popovich as great of a coach he is at the end of the day is an old dog and you can't teach old dogs new tricks. He's not as open minded as he used to be and he will never ever be flexible, Nick Nurse is a new school kind of coach where he's open to all possibilities and think of creative ways to coach the team and win. There is no adjustment Kawhi has to make because Nick Nurse makes it for him while he will always have to make adjustments and cater to Pop's system all the time. He's freedom on the court will always be strictly limited with Nick Nurse he won't be. Nick Nurse is not a rookie coach he has decades of coaching and he's coaching style has revitalized this roster and is hitting the NBA through storm. Now I am not saying Pop is bad, I am just saying it seems Nurse and Kawhi seems to be a better fit because they both have an understanding with each other and can see eye to eye, Kawhi can be himself without facing any consequences and he knows Nurse will have his back just as he will have his back on his whole team.

      @@junkim5853 long read, but I did read the whole darn thing!! great points, but Pop isn't as strict as people think. Ginobili wouldn't have survived there if Pop was stone strict. He's had to adjust to players just as much. the last full season with Spurs, Kawhi was asked to read the defense and change a called play if he saw something more advantageous. Pop has always supported his players, he was the one coach over resting players to prolong their careers. I really hope Leonard improves to become the player he wants to be, he's always said he wants to be one of the greatest. He's pretty close to it now.

    • @junkim5853
      @junkim5853 5 лет назад +2

      @@juangil9628 I disagree Juan players like Stephen Jackson called out on Pop and even Green did, they certainly changed last season and it has been weird. Thank you so much for reading my post, I can't thank you enough and I am so happy you enjoyed it (I hope I am right). Of course you can never have an inflexible coach and all great coaches will have a degree of flexibility, but I think it's safe to say Nick Nurse is a lot more flexible than Pop and he is a lot more open minded and shown more creativity in his system then Pop. In terms of flexibility I meant more on organization, players need to discuss what to say in the media with Pop first before they say it, it's safe to say Parker attacking Kawhi and many Spurs players saying things in the media has been orchestrated by non other than Pop. Leonard's freedom was limited in that sense, he couldn't be himself and always had to discuss what to say with someone else and get their consent. If you are a Spurs fan I am sorry if I came out mean. Spurs is a model organization to follow since the record speaks for itself, but I think the Raptors are following the model of Spurs and tries to address the weakness of that model (like strictness, and etc) with flexibility and their own culture. I have never been as optimistic compared to now, with two champions I think the Raptors truly understand what it takes to win a championship and I pray to god Kawhi stays, with him the world can be our oyster and he will be among the first players to ever win an NBA championship in two separate countries.

    Kawhi is absolutely not dictating system in Toronto, and going by the team record and how well they play on both ends, he doesn't need too either. Saying he's gotta be lebron is just disrespectful to the great supporting cast there is there. How are we spinning Pops not caring if he lost Kawhi as a positive, when he lost Kawhi and now has a team with 0 chance of competing for anything? It amazes me that despite none of these guys knowing Nurse, and the raps being 17-4, best record in the NBA, they assume Nurse won't discipline his players if the need arises. Assuming Nurse doesn't prepare well for games despite having no information to back that up is absurd. Typical pushing of a narrative instead of watching and reacting to what's actually happening.

      There is a big saying in soccer that the player does not make the system and infrastrucutre, it is the infrastructure and the system that makes and defines the player. Kawhi is the system, his veterance and championship winning attitude builds the people around him (along with Green of course.) I don't think the commentators meant to be disrespectful for the Raptors for at least 3 years they did have a team around Lebron in Kyrie and Love with good supporting casts like Smith and Shumpert, I think what they meant was that the engine that drove that team was Lebron. I think its safe to say the engine that is driving the Raptors right now are Leonard and Green, Kyle maybe a vocal leader, but Leonard and Green are proven winners that lead by example showing how a winner acts and thinks, this team is extremely different compare to last year's team, this team is oozing with confidence and assertiveness, many times last year many players doubted themselves and hesitated because they were not confident and didn't know how to truly win, they are learning that with Leonard and Green by their side.

      dh41400 I agree with you . However, this took place very early on in the season before they really got a good look at the raptors and nick nurse’s system . He’s no pop but he has a decent system . He must be doing something right . His team isn’t 18-4 by accident. His team plays hard team ball , moves the ball, shoots and makes 3 pointers etc . The effort plays for this team is there . They really get after it . When Kawhi is diving on the floor . Everyone on the team dives for the ball. Siakam is really balling . He is a long Energy guy in the starting lineup . I’m really becoming his fan. The raptors are deep , which is great for Kawhi to really get back to form . Because he doesn’t have pain , but now since he’s knocking some of the rust off and getting his legs back , he also needs to learn to trust his body a little more which is normal for a guy who was hurt to be a little more careful at times . He’s not all the way back yet . Healthy but not 100% yet . He doesn’t have his full bounce back yet . That is scary for not only the east but the entire nba. 👀💯

    Kawahi seems like a fairly responsible and disciplined guy. The kind of guy who never needs to be reminded what he needs to do or what he's doing wrong. He didn't leave San Antonio for basketball reasons, but rather to cash in on his potential for sponsorship and endorsement deals while he's still young and healthy. Where ever he ends up, long term, is a very lucky team.

    A high IQ, fundamentally sound player like Kawhi will respect coaching talent/skills, regardless of where it comes from. To say Nick Nurse ain't Pop isn't saying much -- Nick Nurse is 19 years younger and has a lot of coaching left. This is like comparing 2018 Pop to 1999 Pop.
    These guys are pros; even if they hate their coach, they can tell if the guy knows his shit, or just faking it. The irony is, the guys who get head coaching jobs just to be exposed as being nothing more than cheerleaders in suits, are usually ex-players (ie: McHale, Mark Jackson, Kidd, Sam Mitchell, Mike Woodson, Byron Scott, etc).

Nurse has proven himself to be one of the very best and most innovative coaches in the league. While he doesn’t yet have the longevity of Pops, who’s to say he’s not at the same level?
