So much fun. I can’t wait to meet Wood, Jr.
Only caution--in reference to IBA, be careful about proclaiming ‘..over the posted speed by 20’, etc. They are sensitive to that.
Great job on the ride, and the video. I cannot imagine riding pillion for 1000 miles.

He is absolutely correct about not really wanting to do it again, nor would I do the 4 corners. I did however enjoy the numb bum with my friends. That was actually a hoot that I highly recommend.

Just seen your post, albeit 2yrs later, love your enthusiasm, done quite a few long distance rides 1600kms/1000 miles or more, you make some very good points, what i would add is pack your own food before hand just light stuff a few potein drinks and water, also if you cant afford a custom made seat(which i cant) a pair of bicycle shorts which have the gel inserts under your riding pants work well for me.

My wife and I did a two-up ride (Colorado-Key West-Carolinas-Colorado) last month, but didn’t do an Iron Butt during that trip. Our longest one-day stretch during that trip was 691 miles. Well, this weekend we’re doing a two-up Iron Butt to Arizona. It’s been in the planning for a while and I think we’re ready. I just came across this video and it’s very encouraging. Thank you for that! Wood Jr., you are a shot in the arm! Hopefully I can say we completed it on the other side! 👍🏻

As a young truck driver, driving a 55 MPH truck, I’ve driven more than 1,000 miles in a day and eight hours of that was without stopping the truck. Now, I don’t think I could or would want to, assuming I be honest. Legs hurt. Ankles swell. Eyes are worse. I enjoy the scenic routes and curves too much. However, if I did it, it would be cool to do it on my Softail Standard and avoid as much interstate as possible.

Congrats on your initial IBA ride and welcome to the IBA world. I heard of IBA a while ago and for I don't know why, I started to look at IBA's website where I saw anyone can do a ride of his own, anywhere but under a time limit. I am in Canada and I started with a 1600km (1000 miles) done August 10th and took me 18h41, second and third rides of 2000km (1200miles) on Sept 2 (2055km) 21h27 and Sept 15 (2069km) 22h04. These are from my Garmin GPS. My first ride, I got all the pictures, but my turn around point was a McDonald and I forgot the receipt, so no proof. My second ride, I lost my camera at 3/4 of the ride and no proof and my third ride, I found out about SpotWalla and a phone app that recorded my routes that I was able to send to them. Lucky for me, I had my GPS recording my routes from the start and I took pictures of my Basecamp tracking to show the routes I had taken. If it was easy, everyone would do it and there would be no fun doing the IBA rides and the best feelling is when you receive the envelop from IBA with the papers and pins and patches and stickers and plate backings. By the way, I ride a 2012 Goldwing and that is the best bike to make those long rides.
