  • Wanted to see how this bike was for a long ride while staying relatively close to home and at the same time burn off my stock tires for some more aggressive tires.
    I would not hesitate to cross the country on this thing.
    If I complete the loop I will be sending in information to Iron Butt to have the ride officially documented. Thanks for watching

    Fantastic ride! I have done several Iron Butt rides (SS1Ks, at least 4 BBGs, and two SS2K golds) and enjoy giving tips to newer long distance riders to help them streamline their rides and make them a bit easier. However I see nothing I can offer you, you did great with the bike and conditions you had to work with. Other than adding lights for night time riding, which you talked about, there isn't really anything I would do differently. There is no getting around a small bike taking a bit longer than larger bikes- you have lower speeds, no wind protection, and limited electrical power for luxuries like heated clothing. Well done.

    I was pleasantly surprised that your route cane down here in piney country. (I live in Smackover on hwy 7.)
    Well done! I think it was extraordinary that you did the ride this time of year and gave up the extra hours of daylight. Good Riding to You!

      Thanks, I have found very few places I don't enjoy riding. I had 2 places on the trip that I really was tempted to stop and camp. Not because I was ready to stop riding but because I saw some cool spots to camp! The spots were in the souther piney part, and the other was a ridiculously tempting levy road in Stuttgart. Lol

    I found your Channel in regards to the China diesel engine you put on a log splitter. I got the same China motor and I am looking to put it on a huskee 20t splitter from tractor supply. I also have a 21 Honda rally. I run the Dunlop d606 rear and mt21 pirelli front, great mostly off road riding tire combo for the California desert and mountains where I live 😊

    Good shout but no surprise, I did 1200 miles from Sweden to UK in under 24 on my crf250m about 5 yrs ago,..... but did have Honda replace the cylinder head under warranty shortly after

    Much respect to you for accomplishing your goal!
    I did my Saddlesore years ago from Ridgecrest CA to Richfield UT & back. 1033 miles in 18 1/2 hrs. I-15 had 80mph limits & I was on a Harley Ultra Classic.
    Mad respect for your achievement, Sir!

      18.5 hrs on any kind of motorcycle or vehicle isn't east. Well done to you too! I actually had a pretty good time and shock myself on how good this little 300 rally is on long days. Way better than I expected.

    With valid gpx files you don't need receipts. They've finally started embracing technology at IBA. I did an ironbutt in 2022 and several locations didn't have the ability to print receipts, I gave them my gpx files and they certified the ride no problem.

    I live in rural Missouri and I just picked up a xr150. Hoping to do some rural route riding this spring and summer! I love lower displacement bikes. 😂

      That xr150 should be an absolute hoot! I have an old xr200 that gets some road time going to local swim holes in the summer. It is a blast.

    Congrats! Never done one on a bike that small. But I’m curious about a crf300 rally. How buzzy are the bars? I may have to trade the Africa twin. Too big to really go through nasty stuff, at least if I’m alone . Arkansas is awesome and love riding there !

    • @mossycreekvids
      @mossycreekvids  7 месяцев назад +1

      The bars were not really buzzy at all. Not dead smooth but I never got any hand numbing at all. I have bar riser and tusk cr high bend chubs. I also used thread inserts for hand guards. Never felt anything through pegs either but I wear Forma predator 2.0 motocross boots which may help with that some as well. I also know that once I put more aggressive tires on it it will have more buzz throughout.

    I could barely handle 300 miles on my crf250L's seat. Upgraded to a BMW and 1000 seems a lot more doable.

    How was the stock seat? Is it worth upgrading to a SeatConcepts one?

    • @mossycreekvids
      @mossycreekvids  5 месяцев назад +1

      Everyone is so different. This is the most comfortable seat stock I have ever had. Including Aftica Twin, GL1500 and V-strom 650. Others hate it. Worth giving it a try.

    That's awesome. I did tours on my previous wr250r and currently have a klx300 set up the same way. Couch critics make excuses while some of us pound the miles. Great ride and great example proving no matter what bike, getting out there is what it's all about. 👍

    • @mossycreekvids
      @mossycreekvids  7 месяцев назад

      Both wr250r and klx300 are nice bikes. It was a fun adventure. I have owned and ridden a lot of bikes from Goldwings down to 125's as an adult. All ridden way more than average mile wise. I was helping put on a pretty good size ADV rally years ago. I had to rebuild my plated xr650r right before the event didn't get it done in time. Wound up riding my GL1500 up 17 miles dirt roads to get to the event some of which pretty steep and knarly. Thats all I had running at the moment to get up there. Ill be dang if I was going to show up in a car. LOL Gasoline was boiling in the tank. I did get the big bike award however. Ride what you got. Glad you enjoyed the video.

    Congratulations on completing the ride. Keeping stops short is the key. How did your total ride time compare to google's extimate?

      Thanks. 20hrs 47min google time. My actual time 23hrs 35min. Had 11 stops 2 were short runs for corner proof. My safe fuel range is 150 miles. Absolutely quick stops matter. I knew it would be tight on time, making up time for stops by speeding not an option on this bike. This time of year having 14hrs dark also made me run a lot at or below the speed limit. Lots of deer in the Ozark mountains at night with a real limited headlight on 2 lane roads. I was stoked everytime I could tuck up behind a car for a few miles. I see you have an IBA number. Nice!

      When I plan a ride, each stop counts as 10 minutes. (11x10=110 minutes or 1:50) 20:47 + 1:50 = 22:37 You started with a cushion of 1:23 for slow downs. A much better cushion than someone riding a Bun Burner Gold. BBG typically have less than a 30 minute cushion. @@mossycreekvids

      Thanks, I sent my receipts and ride info to iron butt association today. The ride was more enjoyable than I expected. In the not too distant future I plan on doing a video on my thought about doing the saddlesore on a dualsport type bike it's challenges and positives for me on such a long non stop haul on a small bike.

      Drz400 good machine! Very reliable machines. Is yours a low mileage bike?

    • @tobynewman5450
      @tobynewman5450 7 месяцев назад

      @@mossycreekvids It is low mileage. Around 5k, it's a 2006. I'm just in the head space for a bike that can take me farther on the pavement. Gunna have to play with the sprocket gearing. Or switch for a suzuki DR 650 or save up for the 300l rally.
      I only spent 30 minutes in a parking lot with my DRZ before buying it.
      These type of videos where a rider goes out and documents traveling on a bike really helps out people like myself. Showing the capabilities of a bike to people who don't have access to ride one or enough time to spend with a bike is really valuable information!

      @mossycreekvids  7 месяцев назад

      @tobynewman5450 I have owned dr650 and now the rally. Spent a good bit of time riding drz400. You will feel a significant drop in power going to rally. Unless you plan on serious off road riding. Gear your drz400 a little more for street, they are really good bikes and do pretty good on street as well. Dr 650 can eat miles on pavement but will definitely feel sluggish in handling off road compared to the drz400 or rally in the tight stuff. All can go off road, all can highway but I will warn the rally is a turd power wise compared to your drz400. It's almost comical in a full tuck wide open I can hit 76 on flat ground, no headwind. I stand up it slows to 68. I also did rally raid suspension on my rally 1750 ish doing it myself. On drz400 just a spring change is all I would have needed. As for your drz400 change oil often put a manual cam chain tensioner on it and start stacking smiles and miles.
