I like & agree with Jim's explanation. At this time Joseph was commanded to not show the U&T or the plates. He was then using his "pet" rock and his "hat" to give some sort of demonstration on how he was translating the Book of Mormon with the U&T. I recall after Joseph quit doing his demonstrations he gave the stone to someone?

It's not a major thing, but just a correction. David Whitmer didn't live close to St Louis but on the other side of the state close to Kansas City. He lived in Richmond Missouri, less than 40 miles from the temple site in Jackson County.

St Louis is relatively close compared to Salt Lake City.

It’s very disturbing to think that the Book of Mormon came though what seems to be a Crystal ball in a magic hat….

It depends on whom you talk to. Do you feel the same way about the miracles of Moses?

@@mykljamz, why is it disturbing? There is a history in the Scriptures of using objects. Jesus used water to turn it into wine, mud to heal a blind. Urim and Thumim are also made of stones. Brother Jared found rocks and brought them to the Lord to touch. I personally do not see it as disturbing.

@@mykljamz is it any easier to believe in God at all?

So what would be the non-disturbing miraculous way the Book of Mormon should have been translated?

The miracles of Moses are very different though.
