I’m Japanese too, but I think Shinkansen is not always the best train in the world. There are a lot of trains which are faster than it. However, I agree Shinkansen is one of the most safety and clean trains all over the world. Actually any big mechanical accidents have not occurred from beginning.
It's funny you mentioned the swivel seats!! When I was in Kyoto I saw the seats all change and then all the attendants came out and bowed before letting us on. I love japan!!
I love love your videos. I am 65 and disabled. Live in NW TN and will never get to travel as y'all do.. Heck, I will never be able to travel. Y'all are so sweet to each other. love it.
I remember my first time taking Shinkansen, helmi was so crazy looking at watch and say "we better be in platform like 10mins earlier". Then I know why, coz they are super on time!! We love Japan's transportation - clean, easy access and fast 😁 Can't wait to see more Japan videos too😃
You guys missed a trick. Shinkansen food service is really poor, because everyone buys Ekiben (Eki=station Ben for Bento box) packed meals to eat on the journey. All the large stations have hundreds of varieties - with some on ice, some self heating packs and lots of local specialities. If you travel Shinkansen again, getting a good Ekiben is a MUST! Also toilets and wash basins generally don’t have paper - but you can get free packs of towels all over the place. People advertising things in malls and on the street hand out free packs - just collect some.
My favorite thing in Japan were the train stations some of which were immense underground mazes of shopping and dining. We got the JR rail pass first class tickets and were pleased with the comfy seats with foot rests and plenty of leg room, not to mention free WiFi. Japan is efficient and clean and always on time. Had the hardest time with our Airbnb washing machine too! Oh and figuring out the hot water system at our apartment was an adventure too.
I've seen videos from others about what's hard about being successful on RUclips, and I'm sure you two have your own struggles, but you don't dwell on it in your videos. You two set yourself apart by being open, honest, and inclusive. You don't talk over each other or squabble on camera. You're a dynamic team who works well independently and together. Love you two! My favorite channel for sure! Thank you and safe travels!
Are you kidding? He talks over her and interrupts her All the time. To the point where a number of people comment on it out of annoyance in most of their videos ....... :/
The JR Pass is really handy. We used it a couple of years ago and managed to see quite a bit of Japan with it. You do still need to reserve the individual tickets to make sure you get a seat on the trains you want.
Yep, an amazing ride. I went on one a few weeks ago now. Tokyo to Osaka took 3 hours and then stayed in Osaka for 3 days before going to Kyoto and then back to Tokyo.
I loved that you were concerned about talking on the train, much respect for where you are. Great ambassadors for the US. big thumbs up. Come back to the UK soon
The whole video I was planning to comment about getting the JR Pass but then you did mention it at the end. Another bonus of getting the JR Pass is that you can use it on the JR Lines in Tokyo like the Yamanote Line which I noticed you used to get to Tokyo station. It also works for JR lines in other cities as well and when we were in Hiroshima, there is a JR Ferry that we were able to use the pass to get to Miyajima Island.
Didnt make it to the end but had the same comment. Instead of showing the ticket they just show the jr pass and go to where they need to. No need to over complicate things
You guys are my number 1 main influence to not give in to the 9-5 and 'follow my dreams' by attempting my own little (big) travel project, shooting 100 shots of 100 cities around the world. Thanks for all your videos and please keep them coming for many years x
There is a phone app that works well. You can reserve any seat available in any train. Used it for two people Tokyo to Kyoto roundtrip. Worked well, did everything from my cell phone while in Tokyo. Don't forget the Bento before you get onboard. Get a GPS app that records top speed. I got 186MPH between Tokyo and Nagoya.
My husband and I love your videos and watch every one. "Let's see what our friends Allison and Eric are doing" is a common phrase in our house. Feel free to upload more, we will watch!
The trains are more sleeker and faster than the trains of my 1985 trip. Maximum was 210 km/h. I was touring and got to Expo 85 in Tsukuba. Ah fond memories of a 24 y/o me. Happy travels.
Thank you for the fun video... love Japan and the Japanese people and culture are one of a kind! Such a polite and delightful society... they are such wonderful and responsible stewards of their country, the pristine landscapes are a treat for the eye! Love to Japan from America😊💞
I landed in Osaka two years ago and it was just as crappy weather but was a typhoon! Literally. Oh and that gyoza reminded me of when I found a small restaurant in Tokyo that was “champagne and gyoza”! Was amazing (in roppongi )
I’m glad you guys had a decent travel day! Especially after the hectic travel of New Zealand 🇳🇿! Hahaha it made me laugh when Eric outed you guys for eating snacks 😂👌🏼 I loved you guys vlogging the bullet train 🚅! It looked actually really comfy for travelling. Looking forward to seeing the next travels you guys get up to! 💗
Enjoyed your video immensely. I love that you share all the various foods with us. Wish I could have seen more of the train itself, and more of the scenery passing at speed. Well done, in any event.
For those dreaming of "once of a lifetime bullet train experience", the fast trains in Italy reach speeds to 300kph, so you can as well have the same exp while for example visiting Naples from Milan.
I love shinkansen so much. So smooth... the best train in the world! Actually i experienced like you had... my ticket also didn't work. Apparently, i have to go to the far left machine.
It’s nice video. There is an one more fun when we get on Shinkansen. That is Obento(Lunch box) we can buy it at each station. There are many kinds Obento.Eveyone should try it!!
@@bibekanandahansda2926 this is a late reply, but it's in commercial operation. Still operates on quite the usual lines seen on youtube. the Hayabusa as mentioned by one of the replyees can run to Hakodate in Hokkaido from Tokyo (if I remember correctly)
If the ticket was purchased a descent time before they got to Tokyo, there's a chance the magnetic strips in the tickets were made effectively useless, which is likely why they didn't go through the ticket reader at the gate. A similar thing happened to me not too long ago, and I had to buy the tickets almost 2 months beforehand.
The bullet train looks super cool and fun experience! Hope you guys do some great foodie experiences there! You got to do it for the vlog.......do it for us.... please....... we need to experience it too!!!
Did you buy your tix at the station? Where can i check the times? Gonna do the same trip from tokyo to osaka in two weeks and im a bit confused and scared!
I can't stress it enough to people visiting Japan, if you think of hopping cities in Japan... get the bloody JR pass. It will save you so much money and so much trouble, like no faffing about with confusing tickets and set in stone time schedules. You can also get regional JR passes, they are cheaper and do allow to ride the Nozomi. But only valid in the southern part of Japan. (not Tokyo - Osaka but Osaka-Fukuoka)
AHHHHHHH you guys are sooooo sweet!! Love that you showed so much respect for the local culture! I've actually just popped up a vlog of my trip to Japan so its really interesting to see things from your point of view too! This has to be one of my fav video series yet guys- keep it up! xx

I got soooo turned around in Tokyo Station last time I went 🤪 My husband flew in from Indonesia and I was trying to meet him on the N’EX train from Narita Airport to go with him to Shinjuku and all these train station attendants I tried to ask where the platform was kept telling me to go to different areas😅 I finally found the right platform with 15 minutes left before he got there 🙏🏻😂 It felt like such an accomplishment🤣 I miss Japan soooo much❤️
Thanks for the tip! We saw the bento boxes, but didn't realize they went hand in hand with the train. We'll stock up for our next bullet train adventure :)

I couldn't tell from the video but with the train tickets for the Shinkansen you need to put both your standard ticket and the limited express ticket into the slot at the Shinkansen gate together, then it'll let you through. If you just insert your standard ticket it won't open the gate as it doesn't know that you paid the extra fee to ride the shinkansen.
Ya, we eventually figured that one out, but not until after the nice station attendant stamped our tickets and opened the gate for us 🙈 Next time, we'll be pros at using the ticket machines though! 😁
You guys were the 1st YT channel I ever subbed and I watched every video from vlog 1 for months until I caught up, but even though I have subbed many other channels now since starting to really watch YT in 2018 I still think you have the best vlog out there.
Hi I m from Sri Lanka, I lived in Japan in many years, here is tip entering to the bullet train station just you have to put the both tickets in to the machine at the same time,
I personally preferred Kyoto to Osaka. Should have stayed longer in Kyoto and instead have done day trips to Osaka which is only 15 minutes ride on the Shinkansen each way. Kyoto just had a better vibe to me than Osaka, plus the streets were wider.
A little suggestion when traveling in Japan... carry a small fast drying washcloth or microfiber towel to wipe your hands. They have very clean bathrooms in parks with bidets but most of them don’t have paper towels to dry your hands.
Well JR pass is not that expensive. It is at around round trip from tokyo to kyoto. Definitely worth it. You can even use it for local jr train and some jr busses, unlimitedly
A good way to save money on the Shinkansen is to get a ticket without reserved seats. On this train, you go to Cars 1-3 for that. Except for the busiest travel times, there are seats available in those cars. And yes, 1st Class is definitely not necessary.
5:21 The seats in Shinkansen looks like a seat from an airplane, rather than the seat of the provincial buses. 6:55 Airline toilets are toot tight. But that one is spacious. 7:06 Actually, pooping yourself in the toilet in the more squatting position is better than sitting on it. (I don't know if they have the soap since I am a person who likes bringing soap whenever nature calls. A bidet and soap are my best preparation than using tissue). By the way, in item 2, do they have to "flush the tissue down to the toilet instead"? What's the best way to travel to Osaka? (1) From Haneda Airport in Tokyo, take Monorail or Yamanote Line to Tokyo Station, then take the Tokaido Shinkansen Line? or (2) Land in Kansai Airport? I prefer to Land in Kansai if there are connecting flights available from Asia (I'm from the Philippines). If not, to Haneda International Airport. (JR Shinkansen seems to be expensive and requires advanced booking). If traveling by bus, it seems hellish, sitting down for 7-8 straight hours from Tokyo.
That fact at 6:25 is wrong, It's the green Shinkansen you saw when you were on the platform at 320km/h, the E5. Officially the L0 Maglev Shinkansen is the fastest thou.
I have used many trains of the world and Japanese trains are definitely the cleanest.
I’m proud of that as a Japanese.

603km

The fastest bullet train is the HAYABUSA E5 (max: 320km/h) , not the n700
Faiz Basha yea I have been on both hayabusa is definitely faster as it needs to travel all the way to hakodate

Purchase JR pass before you arrive in Japan. Way cheaper. Any train but Nozomo.
You could get Pasmo or Suica card when using the trains in Japan. It's very convenient.
Getting a Japan Rail pass (just like the old Eurailpass) beforehand is better.

That fact at 6:25 is wrong, It's the green Shinkansen you saw when you were on the platform at 320km/h, the E5. Officially the L0 Maglev Shinkansen is the fastest thou.
Bullet Train without a Bento?! Missed opportunity for sure! Still a cool video though.
Looking forward to ride the MAGLEV. You won't need to buy Ekiben.
I can’t believe I missed this episode too. 👀
DAYUM you could fall asleep and miss osaka!
Correction . N700 isn’t the fastest. The e5 green colour Train you saw earlier is the fastest with speeds upto 320 kmph
