I’m Japanese too, but I think Shinkansen is not always the best train in the world. There are a lot of trains which are faster than it. However, I agree Shinkansen is one of the most safety and clean trains all over the world. Actually any big mechanical accidents have not occurred from beginning.

My favorite thing in Japan were the train stations some of which were immense underground mazes of shopping and dining. We got the JR rail pass first class tickets and were pleased with the comfy seats with foot rests and plenty of leg room, not to mention free WiFi. Japan is efficient and clean and always on time. Had the hardest time with our Airbnb washing machine too! Oh and figuring out the hot water system at our apartment was an adventure too.
I've seen videos from others about what's hard about being successful on RUclips, and I'm sure you two have your own struggles, but you don't dwell on it in your videos. You two set yourself apart by being open, honest, and inclusive. You don't talk over each other or squabble on camera. You're a dynamic team who works well independently and together. Love you two! It's funny you mentioned the swivel seats!! When I was in Kyoto I saw the seats all change and then all the attendants came out and bowed before letting us on. I love japan!!
You guys missed a trick. Shinkansen food service is really poor, because everyone buys Ekiben (Eki=station Ben for Bento box) packed meals to eat on the journey. All the large stations have hundreds of varieties - with some on ice, some self heating packs and lots of local specialities. If you travel Shinkansen again, getting a good Ekiben is a MUST! Also toilets and wash basins generally don’t have paper - but you can get free packs of towels all over the place. People advertising things in malls and on the street hand out free packs - just collect some.

There is a phone app that works well. You can reserve any seat available in any train. Used it for two people Tokyo to Kyoto roundtrip. Worked well, did everything from my cell phone while in Tokyo. Don't forget the Bento before you get onboard. Get a GPS app that records top speed. I got 186MPH between Tokyo and Nagoya.
The JR Pass is really handy. We used it a couple of years ago and managed to see quite a bit of Japan with it. You do still need to reserve the individual tickets to make sure you get a seat on the trains you want.
Yep, an amazing ride. I went on one a few weeks ago now. Tokyo to Osaka took 3 hours and then stayed in Osaka for 3 days before going to Kyoto and then back to Tokyo.
I remember my first time taking Shinkansen, helmi was so crazy looking at watch and say "we better be in platform like 10mins earlier". Then I know why, coz they are super on time!! We love Japan's transportation - clean, easy access and fast 😁 Can't wait to see more Japan videos too😃

I landed in Osaka two years ago and it was just as crappy weather but was a typhoon! Literally. Oh and that gyoza reminded me of when I found a small restaurant in Tokyo that was “champagne and gyoza”! Was amazing (in roppongi )

The trains are more sleeker and faster than the trains of my 1985 trip. Maximum was 210 km/h. I was touring and got to Expo 85 in Tsukuba. Ah fond memories of a 24 y/o me. Happy travels.
The whole video I was planning to comment about getting the JR Pass but then you did mention it at the end. Another bonus of getting the JR Pass is that you can use it on the JR Lines in Tokyo like the Yamanote Line which I noticed you used to get to Tokyo station. It also works for JR lines in other cities as well and when we were in Hiroshima, there is a JR Ferry that we were able to use the pass to get to Miyajima Island.

I can't stress it enough to people visiting Japan, if you think of hopping cities in Japan... get the bloody JR pass. It will save you so much money and so much trouble, like no faffing about with confusing tickets and set in stone time schedules. You can also get regional JR passes, they are cheaper and do allow to ride the Nozomi. But only valid in the southern part of Japan. (not Tokyo - Osaka but Osaka-Fukuoka)

For those dreaming of "once of a lifetime bullet train experience", the fast trains in Italy reach speeds to 300kph, so you can as well have the same exp while for example visiting Naples from Milan.

It’s nice video. There is an one more fun when we get on Shinkansen. That is Obento(Lunch box) we can buy it at each station. There are many kinds Obento.Eveyone should try it!!
If the ticket was purchased a descent time before they got to Tokyo, there's a chance the magnetic strips in the tickets were made effectively useless, which is likely why they didn't go through the ticket reader at the gate. A similar thing happened to me not too long ago, and I had to buy the tickets almost 2 months beforehand.

@@bibekanandahansda2926 this is a late reply, but it's in commercial operation. Still operates on quite the usual lines seen on youtube. the Hayabusa as mentioned by one of the replyees can run to Hakodate in Hokkaido from Tokyo (if I remember correctly)

A little suggestion when traveling in Japan... carry a small fast drying washcloth or microfiber towel to wipe your hands. They have very clean bathrooms in parks with bidets but most of them don’t have paper towels to dry your hands.
I got soooo turned around in Tokyo Station last time I went 🤪 My husband flew in from Indonesia and I was trying to meet him on the N’EX train from Narita Airport to go with him to Shinjuku and all these train station attendants I tried to ask where the platform was kept telling me to go to different areas😅 I finally found the right platform with 15 minutes left before he got there 🙏🏻😂 It felt like such an accomplishment🤣 I miss Japan soooo much❤️
Btw the N700 is not the fastest train Its actually E5 and E6 which travels at 320km/h Also there is L0 which travels at an insanely 603km/h (in construction)

If you guys can fit it in, maybe on your way to Vietnam, stop by Okinawa. It is Japan's version of "Hawaii". It used to boast the largest aquarium in the world until a larger one was built in Atlanta, GA. It is also where Karate was developed. It has the highest concentration of U.S. military bases around (so lots of English speaking locals). It was a location of one of the bloodiest battles in the Pacific during WW2 and there is a Peace Memorial Park built in remembrance. There is also an underground tunnels that once served as the Japanese Navy headquarters during WW2. The Shuri castle is also worth exploring as well as the 300k yr old Gyokusendo Cave. The have the "Habu" which the name of the local rattle snake specie that the like to infuse with their version of sake and they also make a their prized super strong and delicious rice wine called "Awamori" distilled from long grain Thai rice. The have bull fights (very tame), amazing scuba diving locales, and the most turquoise clear waters you will ever see along their beaches. There is so much more to list but google it and you can see for yourselves. You can see much of this in so little time as the island is about 70 miles long and 7 miles wide on average. The locals there are very laid back, like Hawaii, and the food is so good since the island had long been the historical keystone trade location in that region that it is a fusion of many surrounding Asian cultures. It is a very un-Japanese place to be.
I personally preferred Kyoto to Osaka. Should have stayed longer in Kyoto and instead have done day trips to Osaka which is only 15 minutes ride on the Shinkansen each way. Kyoto just had a better vibe to me than Osaka, plus the streets were wider.
I couldn't tell from the video but with the train tickets for the Shinkansen you need to put both your standard ticket and the limited express ticket into the slot at the Shinkansen gate together, then it'll let you through. If you just insert your standard ticket it won't open the gate as it doesn't know that you paid the extra fee to ride the shinkansen.
Ya, we eventually figured that one out, but not until after the nice station attendant stamped our tickets and opened the gate for us 🙈 Next time, we'll be pros at using the ticket machines though! 😁
A good way to save money on the Shinkansen is to get a ticket without reserved seats. On this train, you go to Cars 1-3 for that. Except for the busiest travel times, there are seats available in those cars. And yes, 1st Class is definitely not necessary.
you have to buy JR ticket before you get into Japan...check any japanese tourist agent in your city or country,then when you get in Japan change to JR railroad pass (green seat which is first class or economy with reserved seat but you have to pay before you get into japan for minimum one week to 3 weeks i thought) and after you exchanged to JR pass which is good for any transportation run by JR including bullet train and regular train and also bus,too....cheaper so if you stay in Japan more than a week or close to a week and traveling you should buy it and its worth it....I do every time when i go back...this ticket is only selling for foreign tourist and japanese who staying outside of Japan for long times only and you can't buy it in Japan also Japanese either....liked your videos and hope you enjoyed Japan....next time when you visit Osaka, try Okonomiyaki or Takoyaki they are very famous in Osaka ....Tokyo station is one of busiest railroad station with so many people. because of so many different railroad are running and more than 100 thousand people a day....even i get lost ...2020 is year of Olympics in Tokyo and getting busier and busier and next month is Cherry blossom season....sorry too long...enjoyed your videos.

6:24 actually the 500 series Shinkansen is the fastest at 320 kmph not the n700 which only maxes out at 300

The fastest bullet train is the HAYABUSA E5 (max: 320km/h) , not the n700

The Shinkansen is best enjoyed with an Ekiben (go for the regional specialty offered at the station) and a can or two of Asihi Super Dry

I personally preferred Kyoto to Osaka. Should have stayed longer in Kyoto and instead have done day trips to Osaka which is only 15 minutes ride on the Shinkansen each way. Kyoto just had a better vibe to me than Osaka, plus the streets were wider.
Purchase JR pass before you arrive in Japan. Way cheaper. Any train but Nozomo.

I couldn't tell from the video but with the train tickets for the Shinkansen you need to put both your standard ticket and the limited express ticket into the slot at the Shinkansen gate together, then it'll let you through. If you just insert your standard ticket it won't open the gate as it doesn't know that you paid the extra fee to ride the shinkansen.
Ya, we eventually figured that one out, but not until after the nice station attendant stamped our tickets and opened the gate for us 🙈 Next time, we'll be pros at using the ticket machines though! 😁
A good way to save money on the Shinkansen is to get a ticket without reserved seats. On this train, you go to Cars 1-3 for that. Except for the busiest travel times, there are seats available in those cars. And yes, 1st Class is definitely not necessary.

you have to buy JR ticket before you get into Japan...check any japanese tourist agent in your city or country,then when you get in Japan change to JR railroad pass (green seat which is first class or economy with reserved seat but you have to pay before you get into japan for minimum one week to 3 weeks i thought) and after you exchanged to JR pass which is good for any transportation run by JR including bullet train and regular train and also bus,too....cheaper so if you stay in Japan more than a week or close to a week and traveling you should buy it and its worth it....I do every time when i go back...this ticket is only selling for foreign tourist and japanese who staying outside of Japan for long times only and you can't buy it in Japan also Japanese either....liked your videos and hope you enjoyed Japan....next time when you visit Osaka, try Okonomiyaki or Takoyaki they are very famous in Osaka ....Tokyo station is one of busiest railroad station with so many people. because of so many different railroad are running and more than 100 thousand people a day....even i get lost ...2020 is year of Olympics in Tokyo and getting busier and busier and next month is Cherry blossom season....sorry too long...enjoyed your videos.
