Just FYI for everyone else, you also can actually put your full size luggage on the overhead rack as well. It will fit and it won't slide around. I didn't know this when I took the Shinkansen for the first time. So I ended up putting my luggage within our seat, just in front of my legs. This is actually a very bad thing to do in case of an emergency. So just get some muscles to help you and put the luggage up top. :)

Thankfully Japan is one of the few countries of the world that is so organised, you don't need to overly plan yourself. With my family being Australian-Japanese, we're back and forward and I have 25 trips to Japan where I've been able to experience what to do and what not to do.
Lately, I've found best way is to have a list of where you would like to go and move with weather. But this comes with experience.
I'd say Japan will surprise everyone. It's the small towns off the beaten track that surprise the most.
Although Kyoto is a must see for someone who has never been, sadly for anyone who is frequently in Japan, it's fallen to the bottom of the list due to one issue: over tourism. Kyoto is to Japan is what Venice is to Italy. The first timers go there, the people in the know, go elsewhere.
This video is a good hint... ruclips.net/video/pKBRkT_iB5Y/видео.html Emma and Sharla immediately rank Kyoto last :(
Every traveller has a difference need and Japanese cities and towns offer different things, to different people. Tokyo in my opinion is a must, because it offers so much to everyone and is large enough that even doubling tourists don't impact it. Tokyo could take up 5 days alone.
But most other locations in Japan, you would be overstaying if you stayed for 3-4 nights in each place, unless you were using it as a Shinkansen hopping spot.
An example is, I stayed in Morioka for 7 nights earlier this year. Morioka itself isn't worth that many nights, but as a Shinkansen base I was able to visit Akita, Kakunodate, Aomori, Hakodate and Hirosaki so easily. Iwate offers so much that a week in the north of Japan isn't enough.
Nagoya is a great spot for going elsewhere. Aichi is a great prefecture, but 3-4 nights for Nagoya alone isn't worth it.
Hiroshima has had a lot of updates lately to the station and facilities. It used to be a location I would say 2 nights if sufficient, but I would say 3 nights in Hiroshima.
Osaka is great for food and a base for other places like Koya-san and Himeji.
Nozawaonsen....., great for skiing and onsens..... but best time is certainly January/Feb.... there are a lot of other places in Nagano prefecture worth your time (and so easy to use somewhere like Nagano as a base instead of being stuck in Nozawaonsen - albeit it's a quaint/nice town..... during winter).
You're missing a LOT of places from your list though.
As an example, a couple of weeks back I spent a week going all the way from Hakodate to Nagasaki. One month, you can cover so much distance. Do NOT ignore Kyushu or Hokkaido. They're amazing in their own right. Shikoku also needs a look in, but is best done by car. Whereas everywhere else in Japan, train is king.
Be warned that travel by car/bus is significnatly slower in Japan than other countries whereas train traval is significantly faster, more frequent and more reliable. Avoid buses unless there are no other options.

We understand where your comments are coming from as you only want to see things that you want to do... but for us (and for some of our audience), it's our first time in Japan so of course we are excited for everything including taking a bullet train. We don't have a producer, scout, editor - we do everything ourselves. You're not spoiling our clips because we'll keep doing what we want to do...you're just coming off as quite rude rather than helpful.

    • @arthurmajewski6226
      @arthurmajewski6226 Год назад

I didn't intent to come across as rude.. . But was hoping my language would be to some extend a "wake up" call. In any case, I just tried to provide to you guys feedback from the audience point of view. And definitely NOT from what I am interested in doing in Japan... please don't forget, you are competing on youtube with dozens of other youtubers that went to japan (before you did).. just Google it... tsukichi market, shibuya, shinjuku, bullet train... it's all have been shown before..... my key message was: try to provide to your audience a unique story, as you did in Thailand... destinations of the beaten track...
you asked me to be "helpful"?... well as I am "just" an audience member, from my perspective....
      1. When it comes down to UNIQUE Japan content, try to look at and get in touch with Chris Broad's (channel) "abroad on Japan"...
      2. If you would like to bring your channel to a more professional level, scout etc., please look at and get in touch with Will Sonbuchner, alias, Sonny Side's "best ever food review show"...
Both youtubers went through the same development stage, as you guys are in right now.... From my perspective, that of a humble viewer...
      Hope that was helpful...

  • @inodesnet

If you have a Japan Rail pass, you simply reserve seats and pick up tickets from any of the electronic ticket machines. The specific ones are obvious as they have "Japan Rail Pass" at the bottom and have 8 languages. It's fast and easy. The pass becomes extremely useful when navigating Japan because if you're going between towns as efficiently as possible over an extended period, it's not unusual to take many Shinkaksens. For a 3 week period for example, getting 10-20 Shinkansens is not unheard of and reserving tickets on the machine takes far less time than using the websites to book.
Sadly JR has used Japan Rail usage data in the past couple of years to change pricing to be roughly what most people use rather than have it as a way to encourage tourism. The price increase is the same as the combined inflation rate Japan has experienced from 1977 to 2023 (so it's a cash grab and makes the convenience of the JR pass no longer worth it).
One thing to note is that highways in Japan have extremely low (safe) speeds set. For this reason, bus travel in Japan is very, very slow compared to trains which are able to run at significantly higher speeds. Shinkansens for comparison are almost 4 times the speed of a bus at maximum highway speeds.
The train from Nagoya to Takayama for example (despite not being a Shinkansen), is about 50% faster than a bus. So I would highly recommend always taking train over bus where practical. It saves at least an hour.

I tried to create an account with SmartEX app from the US but it won't accept my credit cards. Did you have to wait until arriving in Japan to set up the account?

We registered when we were in Japan. I also had trouble with my Visa but Mastercard and AMEX worked for us. I think it may have to do with the 3D Secure feature on the card.

Unfortunately, the plastic bags on the bus are vomit bags.
Japanese people may not be concerned about the fact that they are transparent and can see what's inside.
I didn't realize it until you mentioned it.

Seriously? Disappointing... Don't get me wrong, I really like you guys. But the last 2 clips from Jspan can't be more mainstream tourist trail ever... nothing special.... there dozens of shinkansen clips on RUclips.
Get a new japan scout / producer.... because thus is just brand....
I loved your Thailand content. That was very creative, unique and provided a serious value add....
As opposed to your recent clips.... you can do better....

220km/h and even 275km/h (what you said was the top speed of your train) is not that fast for a high speed train.
Some in Japan go up to 320km/h and most in China go up to 300km/h with a few going up to 350km/h.
