Really great presentation style mate. I enjoy these vids quite a lot and you showcase some really unique products that I actually look forward to. Cheers mates.
Love the one take style walking between stands and threading the narrative so seamlessly, I don’t think people appreciate how much talent that takes, awesome content and perspective. When are you getting back to the boat?
Cheers for that! Yeah; the boat is a mid winter plan… makes no sense but that’s all we can do! We’ve done loads of design and prep work in the background and will get some videos out on that as soon a the van is done, of which I think we’re only planning 2 or 3 videos about and that’s all fitting marine gear for testing. We are heading down to the boat after Xmas and new year to film and then make a start! Really can’t wait now!
Hey! Good to hear from you! Yeah the Karver clutch is actually brilliant. And yeah! Mate it’s an epic show and over so quick! Filming it is manic for sure!! We do it all on the last day when it is quiet! 🤦♂️😂
Having your personal videographer lifts your channel above the pack, the way your boatbuilding skills do. Congratulations and warm regards to you both.❤🇦🇺👍
Tried to develop silicone anti foul in the late 80s and it worked a treat in some environments and in others the silicone became a route for bugs to grow into the coating..
That’s super interesting. What in earth could live in silicone ay! So when you a route into the coating. What coating are you referring too? I would love to know the company name? What happened to the research? I believe silicones have changed over the last ten years or so or at least there are new areas being explored, what re your thoughts on these new derivatives? Do you think they could work.
@ I believe the silicones came from a company named Bramite (couldn’t tell you where they originated maybe US) or perhaps that was the silicone brand. We were a gelcoat manufacturer and had some success putting it into gelcoat they already had a two component urethane I believe. We ran some trials around Auckland and had success with the urethane but in a particular river we found that the growth grew into the silicone coating and it looked like it was growing in the long polymer holes of silicone. I.e. soft silicone in hard coating allowed the growth to follow and push the silicone out of the way. Same in a gelcoat. I had some fun and built an opti with the coating that was slippery AF. Also coated my caravan roof with it and despite being in a wet area where algae used to grow quickly we were able to wash it off no problem time after time. Other key issue was repainting and sanding the silicone coating…. Silicone in paint shops is death and nothing likes to stick to a cured coating and getting rid of the dust was death to any other coatings for a long time. I was keen to try it in tooling gels but not my boss lol… Also played with copper clad in the early days I think you guys had it in the UK through Scott Bader who were our early polyester technology partners.
Company names… we were Stratos Chemicals, became Ferro Stratos in NZ when bought by US ferro. Then they bailed NZ market and Nuplex bought us who eventually purchased the global resin business of Akzo before being gobbled by what is now Alnex. This research was done by a couple of kiwis who are no longer with them and long retired… too many economists accountants in the business now to get real research done, lol in my opinion!
@ yes easy to install, lots of good info on their website. Pay attention though to the details regarding parallel threads and thread sealing. I won’t use anything else these days. Fyi, I’m not affiliated with Trudesigns in any way. Just another sailor sharing my own experience. Cheers.
Thanks! Stoked to be sharing these cool products with you guys! There’s so much to see at this show it was hard to pick what to shoot! So… stay tuned for Pt.2 coming soon!! 🤟🏼
Cheers Noah! Thanks for the feedback too!! We’ve got Boot Düsseldorf coming up in January so we’ll bare hybrid in mind!! In the meantime stay tuned for Part2 from METS… no hybrid but we do touch on regen!! ✌🏼🌊🔋
Love the Karver clutch. We were looking at the Ronstan constrictor clutches for our halyards. These might be better as so much shorter. The Ropeye monster loop is basically what we have done for our DIY chainplates and our mizzen stood up to Storm Bert in North Wales :-) All it cost us was the offcuts of the dyneema shrouds and a bit of time.
Yeah mate, I think the silicone may be the answer?! The problem with Teflon it’s a killer for the environment and the cost is insane for such an area. The silicone has some amazing reviews so we’re going to put it to the test when we launch the boat and see what the score really is!
Well done Chris very slick presentation, unfortunately though I have to report the Peller clean you showed at the start is even more slick than you and not in a good way... It all slipped off within a month on our Max prop! I followed the instructions to the letter but it all peeled. I usually use Velox which easily lasts 2 years and then just needs a top coat for another 2.
Hey, cheers Steve, nice to hear from you! We were ran ragged at METS this year mate! Now, was that’s the tie coat or the silicone that wore through or both!? I ask as they put a lot of development into it over the last few years… We’re looking at doing the bottom of our new build in Seajet’s new silicone…. Would be good to hear your thoughts.
@ the silicone fell off the tie coat so I don’t think it was my prep. I generally like Seajet stuff, Seajet 33 has worked really well as an antifoul for us. I was hoping you guys would make it to Annapolis this year, guess you’ve got your hands full in Scotland. We’re actually looking forward to getting out of the heat of the tropics, I know you probably won’t want to hear that!
@svfairisle not sure fella, probably going to give it a whirl, the hip should be less effected by the issue anyhow, prop speed however is obviously pretty quick in comparison! Cheers guys!
@svfairisle for real, where are you heading? Mate, I’m not one for the heat. It kills me! Mind you it would be a welcome change for a while! Annapolis would be fab but we have our hands full already, Jenni and I would both like to catch up at some point for sure though!
Sure, that’s likely nylon. It’s swells slightly in water, it is common for domestic water to utilise hdpe too. Both materials are great and they are cheap too but they are not suitable for marine usage at all. The Tru Designs are made from a fire proof material similar to delrin, This gives a bunch of other benefits and one being that they don’t seize.
Thanks for the great insightful video. I would like to know more about induction Marine barbecues. What is out there?? I am contemplating going all electric. Cheers.
Not sure that’s the wise way of cooking on an electric boat. Although that does depends on your battery bank, it’s size, chemistry, your motor, required range etc etc Of course it can be done but there are constraints. Happy to get into it over on Patron with you if you want to go deeper into the possibilities 👍
Geez man! 🤣 Not sure that’s a compliment and don’t see the goaty beard thing but fair enough haha they say any press is good press right haha 😝 Hope you enjoyed the video. Stay tuned for Pt2 when Chumlee is back in action 🤣🤣🤣
Haha! Cheers man. I hope it’s not really rubbish as this is what we enjoy! Finding cool stuff to share and help people make the right descisions for their sailing. So yeah, the boat. We’ve had huge progress, mainly in paper but nan that’s such a faff! It’s super busy here at the moment which is cool. We’ve got 2 sailing videos reviewing some sailing gear, two on the van and then we’re on the road to the boat! I will try and get an update video in there for you too.
For sure! We all do it to go sailing, many loose track of that! I guess it depends on what your building and why? Mind you, I’m not likely to replace something with old tech any more.
@jean-bernarddemilton8577 Cheers for that, point noted. Mind you, would it still be interesting if I was not talking? I’m giving you my insights as a shipwright, sharing that knowledge and experience I’ve gained. It’s hard to do this without speaking. I could give you a sales pitch in a flash but is that really what you want? Any feedback is much appreciated, cheers, Chris
Really great presentation style mate. I enjoy these vids quite a lot and you showcase some really unique products that I actually look forward to. Cheers mates.
Hey thanks! We’ve got another coming up soon from the same show for you👍🤙
Please never stop you two. Such a proper mix, presenting, building, filming, editing.
Poly-threat....
Thanks for that! Poly-threat, we should name our boat that! 😜

The carver clutch looks super handy. Must take some organising to put one of these episodes together especially at a show that big cheers.

i agree with you about the simple winch hand locks. IMHOP the best invention was the floating winch handle--they never seem to fall overboard.
Haha funny that 😝
The Ropeye guy is actually Matteo Sericano, a professional Class 40 skipper with quite some successes the last few seasons!💪🏻
Your right! Well spotted, the lads a legend 🤙
A big fan of Trudesigns fittings. Have several on my boat. Brilliant!
Nice!!! Great for other viewers to hear this! 🤘🏼 Easy to install? 🛠️

Whoop whoop! Thank you for the lovely episode =) 🎉
Hey bud! Thanks again 👌👊
Hope I run into you two one one trade show or another. Would like to congratulate you on the channel and the content. learned a lot.
Cheers for that! Never mind run into us, give us a shout and we will make time for you, always good to catch up with fellow sailors! 👍
Wow, that generator seem so powerful for the size. Great find.
For sure, the guys at EPT are making waves to say the very least! 🤙
Great taste of some new products 👌
Thanks! Stoked to be sharing these cool products with you guys! There’s so much to see at this show it was hard to pick what to shoot! So… stay tuned for Pt.2 coming soon!! 🤟🏼
Love the Truedesign thruhulls..
@26N80W Cool, as we’ve got people talking about plastic through hulls seizing, could you share your experience ?
Really good stuff! 😊
Cheers Nuno, a wee shout out for you in the next one. Shane you we’re not at the show mate. Roll on BOOT mate!
Hi guys - I love Truedesign... love ya work - damn the camera gal is good..Meris gear looks good for Scotland..
Cheers man, yeah!! She’s a legend! ❤️
I've just fitted Tru Design :) I sleep much better at night :)
Loving that there’s so much love for TruDesign on here! Nice!!! 👍🏼 What boat do you have?
Love these videos. I’d like to see more hybrid systems.
Cheers Noah! Thanks for the feedback too!! We’ve got Boot Düsseldorf coming up in January so we’ll bare hybrid in mind!! In the meantime stay tuned for Part2 from METS… no hybrid but we do touch on regen!! ✌🏼🌊🔋

Nice work! Sounds super interesting. Ropeye had some cool gear, you should check them out! 👍🏼
@@SailHub #budget ;-)
@SustainableSailing we can relate!
Ooo, just a plain suction base that I can bolt a Garmin base to or any attachment of my choosing would be wonderful.
Im pretty sure they will have that! Give us a shout in Patreon and I can definitely help you out there!👍😀
surely there some person out there knows how to stop things sticking to a surface ? maybe teflon coatings is the answer as in frying pans
Yeah mate, I think the silicone may be the answer?! The problem with Teflon it’s a killer for the environment and the cost is insane for such an area.

PS I applied it 3 years ago in Turkey (so it was possibly old stock as well) maybe they’ve improved it?
@svfairisle not sure fella, probably going to give it a whirl, the hip should be less effected by the issue anyhow, prop speed however is obviously pretty quick in comparison!

I used plastic valves in the water industry, they do seize up if not operated regularly

Geez man! 🤣 Not sure that’s a compliment and don’t see the goaty beard thing but fair enough haha they say any press is good press right haha 😝 Hope you enjoyed the video. Stay tuned for Pt2 when Chumlee is back in action 🤣🤣🤣
Can't find any info on the Lewmar Sea Sucker, not on Lewmar web site, any one know how / where to find more information on this?
Stay tuned I Will give them a shout and let you know 👍
Thanks Joel!! Stay tuned for Part2- so much to see at this show! 🙌🏼
Everything looks expensive…..
Some yes some no!
Never mind all this rubbish, how are you going with the Sprinter and that super alloy boat?
Haha! Cheers man. I hope it’s not really rubbish as this is what we enjoy! Finding cool stuff to share and help people make the right descisions for their sailing.

Come on! What's wrong with old fashion cleats, bults and nut etc.
Spend your money on old traditional things and go sailing
For sure! We all do it to go sailing, many loose track of that! I guess it depends on what your building and why? Mind you, I’m not likely to replace something with old tech any more.
To be honest.. not any real sailer wont saildrive nowdays .... old bad tec..
Really? Are we going to the “real sailor” debate? Any how, a lot has changed with sail drives but I’m keen to known reasoning behind this comment?
Interesting but too much talking!
@jean-bernarddemilton8577 Cheers for that, point noted. Mind you, would it still be interesting if I was not talking?
I’m giving you my insights as a shipwright, sharing that knowledge and experience I’ve gained. It’s hard to do this without speaking.
