@@vrocker it's less windproof due to the maximum length of the wick inside the chimney, it's being limited due to the wick cover thus fire is smaller which also helps in fuel consumption.
@@bernardtan1 it's less windproof because of the crappy wick that is used in it, if you replace it with a zippo wick it will be the same. Just an FYI though the fit is tight AF lol, gotta make sure you twist the entire string on both ends to try to make the wick more tightly wound so it can slide through and you'll need some needle nose pliers most likely.
@@MrBayeasy I have two that i pit Zippo wicks in them. They still don't compare to a regular Zippo insert when it comes to windproof. Like you stated, it's much tighter. The evaporation rate will be much slower hence why it's less windproof. The wick has less fluid it on it. I found that leaving it upside down in my pocket watch pocket does make it a little more windproof and the flame slightly bigger. I also noticed that flicking the zippo open a lot does lead to quicker evaporation. It makes me think that the chimney cap is mostly a gimmick. I have two Honest lighters with just a cap that circles the wick. Similar to this and it doesn't last any longer than my zippos with a regular insert.
@@spacepope87 I'm not sure why you're getting those results, based on the testing I've done the evaporation is way less than a standard zippo insert. The first few days off a fill always evaporate the most before it begins to level out. The first 2 days I would only lose about .25 grams total and around day 3-4 I would lose .06 - .08 grams of fluid a day, and it stays at this rate presumably until it runs out of fluid. I've measured the amount of fluid that it takes to fill the insert up until dripping and it's roughly 4.5 grams of fluid. So if you do the math that means you can go nearly 2 months between fills if you don't light it (so someone like me who doesn't smoke and just wants a source of fire on them). In regards to windproof they are still totally fine, they stood up to a fan blowing directly onto them just fine. Naturally a zippo will be better in this regard due to more wick being exposed and the chimney being designed better, but in all honesty it's fine unless you're trying to light it up during a really bad storm or something. A fan blowing directly onto it is way more intense than a windy day and both the zippo insert and zorro insert performed the same. As you start to run out it will become harder to light, which is obvious, but it's harder to light it (first try) when it starts to dry up. So I say when that happens it's time to top it off, also if you aren't, be sure to repack any of these inserts with some form of wicking cotton like cotton bacon or something similar, it makes a world of difference in consistency, performance, and how much fluid it can take. I wouldn't be surprised by your results if you were using the cotton that was provided with the insert. Just for reference a standard zippo insert will lose roughly .5 grams on the first day, .25 on the second day, and then about .16-.20 grams of fluid a day until it runs out (provided you are using something like a plastic bag on the bottom of your insert, if not then you can expect to be losing roughly .35-.40 grams a day with the default setup on a zippo and with the standard cotton that might be even higher). It's so much less efficient, however it's infinitely more satisfying to use a standard insert for EDC, so for me these inserts are good for people who want a source of reliable flame on them but don't want or like to fidget with their zippo, as naturally the fastest way to make the zippo go dry is by using it.
What about a fix for a zippo that doesn't spark enough to light right off the bat? I just switched to one of my backup zippos until I get the hinge fixed on my other one but I REALLY have to give this thing a stroke job to get it to light it's putting a blister on my thumb.

i think the zorro tries too hard to improve the flaws of a zippo and only barely succeeds, you can put a seal with plastic at the botton of a zippo insert and it'll perform just as well, you're only using a zippo if you want to use it regularly anyways and they're just making it uglier and adding a hassle for such a mediocre increase, maybe if they made it last 4x as long or something. but this is not for me. i'd rather just get the butane yellow flame from zippo if i needed it to hold it's fuel better.
