Hey Karin! Thanks for the photowalk and the shots! I really like the “missed opportunities”. I feel this so often when I go out shooting. In these moments it says “click” in my head, mimicking the sound of a shutter that actually didn’t fire because I’ve missed the moment. I like the honesty in your video. By the way, you took some really nice shots!
Thank you Axel, I really appreciate it! And I totally know what you mean - in situations where I don't have my camera with me I totally do the same. Honesty is truly what I am going for, I am neither a pro nor an expert but just a girl who likes to go out and shoot films. I am learning and practicing every time I go out and don't want to "educate" people but much rather share my experiences, with all my successes, my mistakes, the good shots and the bad shots, so I am glad that people recognise the honesty I am going for.

I often look through the viewfinder but not always. And I isr zone focusing, so I usually measure the distance and pre-focus before putting the camera to my eye
Really enjoyed the pace and editing of the video, thanks for sharing. Just subscribed! Good shots as well, there's a lot of potential in the ultra wide lens for street for sure.
Karin, nice work on street photos in Munich. Photos were quite sharp with clear contrast, something you would expect with Leitz lenses. Hence, their premium value even used. Notice this part of city is entirely paved with even lighting, and there is little shade and no green spaces that would add a bit of variety. Am sure there must be parks with sitting areas that would soften the overall look vs pavement and stone facades. Think in this particular urban setting, people seem more formal vs catching images or human interest when people are resting or sharing company. Amazing what a good camera can do, along with the right processing of B&W film. Nicely done.
Thanks so much for your comment and for sharing your thoughts Norman, I appreciate it! Just one note: I am not using Leitz glass but I am in fact using a Voigtländer Color Skopar, which is still a pretty amazing little lens. :)
@@KarinMajoka Karin, your videos are fun to watch and informative. I have a late model Leica M3 with a Leitz Elmer 50mm f2.8 collapsible lens. The M3 doesn’t have a light meter but is considered once of the best designed rangefinder cams around and is considered by some to be a classic. For metering, I use a hand-held Gossen Pilot light meter, which after some practice, isn’t that slow. Leica cameras are generally considered a premium brand, and even used they sell for much higher prices. I am still looking for an “affordable” 50mm M mount Summicron f2.0 lens, there is nothing less than $1,000. Most are being sold by collectors/users in Japan, which is a good source for used gear. People there tend to take very good care of their equipment. I also use a Pentax Spotmatic SPII (the Asahi Pentax story is remarkable), and the Spotmatic debuted in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. The Takumar 50mm f1.4 lens they made is considered one of the best prime lenses. I just acquired a rebuilt Minolta SRT202 with its Rokkor 50mm f1.7 lens, and the all-metal SRT line are considered “tanks” by most photographers. Continue your shooting and enjoyment of film. It is a remarkable medium that people abandoned too soon. Be well and be safe. All the best. Norman
Wow, I feel honored to have played a tiny little role in your decision process. I am sure you will enjoy the M6 very much! Therefore welcome back to film :)
Thank you, Phil! 35mm feels more comfortable but I agree that there is something to the wide angle shots. Hope there will soon be times where it's a bit safer to get close again, because I would love to experiment a bit more with the 15mm on the streets. How do you like your wide angle for the Mamiya btw? 😬
@@KarinMajoka it's great so far! It's really easy to make boring images with it if you don't have anything interesting in the foreground, but when it hits, it hits!
Finally!! Seeing that superwide on the streets. And wow it is...super-wide hahaha. I thought it would give a cool distorted look, but it just captures the ENTIRE scene, no matter how closer you were. Very interesting. You know it's wide when it makes your gopro footage narrow haha.
Hahaha, so true about making the GoPro footage narrow, I thought the same! And even in situations where I was uncomfortably close and very in-your-face-with my camera on the images it still felt like being far away. Much like how you described shooting with a 28 in your "best roll" video.
Nice work. 15mm is a breath of fresh air. Nice look, but you were right, probably best for subjects within 6 feet or so. Subbed. Keep it up. Stay safe.
Thanks a lot for your comment, I appreciate it! I actually enjoyed shooting that wide on the street and think there is some potential behind it - so maybe more of this after we (hopefully...) finally conquered that pandemic and it's okay to get close again.
Stunning pictures. The 15mm is surprisingly sharp without too much bending on the edge of the frame.
Fine set of shots. I love the 35mm focal length. My X100 series is 35 equivalent my Oly sp35 film cam is 40mm love these two cameras altho the Oly needs a repair so is currently in Isolation. Pretty keen to try the Bron with a roll of HP5 on the streets soon.
35mm is my favorite focal length for everyday shooting as well, it’s just so versatile. How do you shoot your HP5 in your Bronica? Do you shoot box speed or do you push it? 😬
@@KarinMajoka hey mate always shot at box unless I need to push it I’ve taken it to 1600 but that was a long time ago self processed I got some huge funky grain 😆😆📷
Thank you, I appreciate it! :) Which Minolta do you have right there? But regardless which one it is, it will probably be very happy to be in use again. ✌🏼
All you "missed opportunities" made me think of one I had today. I was sitting outside at a coffee house when 3 shirtless maybe homeless guys passed about 10 feet in front of me. One was pushing a shopping cart full of random stuff and all were wearing military camouflage pants. Also, one was carrying a flag. My camera was in my backpack but by the time I thought of pulling it out they were gone.
Oh wow, that sounds like an interesting scene though, thanks for sharing! I had several situations where I was not fast enough to take out my camera which is why I try to make it a habit to carry a point and shoot in the pocket of my jacket. The first missed opportunity I showed in my video was for example missed because I was drinking some water during that situation 😅
Don't focus too hard on missed opportunities, everyone has them. Even the best will have had moments where they thought 'Damn, I should've had that on film' Focus on the shots that were made, and even more on the good shots you've made. Learn from those, and develop yourself to see 'in the future' Get a feel for certain things to happen before they do, and be ready when it does happen ;)
My memory of a “missed” shot, or rather a shot I would love to have taken, was of a guy sitting at a coffee table reading a book with his terrier sat on another chair on a cushion with his paws on the table and his chin between them. It wasn’t possible sadly because I was driving a car stopped at traffic lights. Needless to say, I never saw that situation again!
The ultra wide shots are definitely my faves from this video. I think most of your missed opportunities weren’t missed really, you like me wanna little too fast. There were a few times I wish you’d hung out for a minute or two longer at some of the locations you were at and a nice moment could have presented itself. Great video! Looking forward to more 👍👍
Thanks a lot for your comment, I really appreciate it! Now that you mentioned it I just noticed that I rarely ever stand or wait around when shooting street. I am usually constantly moving, only walking for hours. So that comment really made me think I should definitely try this more next time to stop and wait, not only for the video but also the see what happens photography-wise. Thanks! :)
@@KarinMajoka took me ages and ages to figure this out myself! I used to run and gun, but I find myself being a bit more considered. Was totally FOMO’d like I’d miss some amazing moment if I didn’t keep walking, striking a balance is key. Love the channel, very keen to pick up an M6 one day 👍👍
Interesting video as usual! I agree that the loss of detail in the shadows would also prevent me from adopting this film. Lovely city Munich. Only city in Germany I’ve visited, sadly.
Thank you! I think for people who go for the super contrasty look this film might be something. For me this might work for some occasions but generally I would rather shoot a roll of HP5 :) Munich is really lovely, glad you enjoyed it there!
Wonderful video and really like your shots. I recently started doing street photography in Germany and I know they passed a law here. @@KarinMajoka i know the feeling i misses a few shots as well few times and i was like dang it .but its ok we learn from our mistakes to be better next time
@@tazchars8857 Exactly! And for me it also helps to think why I missed specific shots. Did I not notice the scene before? Was I too afraid to take a shot? All that helps to get better and improve :)
@@KarinMajoka i got to a confrontation before while doing street photography but hey ho its ok i got over it.sometimes im scared to take the shot but sometimes im the heck with it im not doing something bad.
Great Pov. The shoots you took surely make up for the missed ones. I really like the Candy400 look and think that missed opportunity V was more like "too slow". Missed opprtunity I was propably the saddest to miss. I guess walking around with a GoPro constantly filming is not too good if you see all the missed opportunies, that you normally wouldn't even have noticed. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Yes, me too, I wish I would have caught that pirouette - I think you can see my hand twitching, but I was just tooooo slow haha. I think there are both sides to it, of course will be reminded what cool shots you might have missed. But on the other hand I think it's a good training to see where there is room to improve and to re-evaluate what the reasons for missing a shot were.
Trololo, once again really good video. If I miss shots on the street now I will hear this song in my head every time. 😅 The film used by Street Candy was made for video surveillance. Therefore the latitude is not as high as on their BW films because they did not need it.
As always - thanks Dan, I appreciate it! That's very interesting to know about street candy, I did not know it was actually used for video surveillance, that makes total sense though. Thanks for the info :)
It's nice to see other places in the world with things going on... We're still eight months in on a fairly strict lockdown here in CA. I dunno what it's like in LA but here in the bay area its still a ghost town. There's a little more people out now but nothing with public crowds. I can't even imagine the level of freakout that would happen if there were that many people out in public without masks.
I shot this video in September, I think the situation today here in Germany would already look rather different because the numbers went up immensely during the last week. Therefore everything is possible here as well and I suspect stricter rules and less people outside here too anytime soon. Anyway, hang in there and stay healthy! :)
Hi Karin. I've been slowly seeing your past videos after catching the one with your sister. At the same time, I have finally been able to afford a Leica 6. There's so many versions of it. It's either a titanium M6 or a chrome M6. Would you know which ones better ? Was there a reason you went with the titanium version ? Thank you
Honestly: I don't think the paint finish is the most important criterion. I would rather see if you can find one in good condition maybe with a newer serial number. I have a video up about how I got my Leica M6 in case you are interested in that. I got the titanium one more or less by "accident" because that was the one I found locally at a store in the city where I live.
Echt starke Bilder eingefangen!
Danke dir :)
I have used a Leica M8 for street with 50 mm and 35 mm lenses which translate to a 70 mm full frame and 50 mm full frame approx . I love Ilford Xp2 and Portra and shoot with a Canon AE-1 but the digital Leica is very film like - most film like digital camera in my opinion. Your M6 is superb - try Zeiss 28 or Summicron 35 both wonderful on that camera ! After that just keep taking more and more and more pictures!--forget the techie stuff ! Like your photos and videos !
@@KarinMajoka Awesome! It was a good view...lower to the ground than most POVs. Great music in the video too. I also use that voigtlander 35mm lens...it's a great everyday lens! Love it!
Do you really notice much of a difference without the soft release button? I've always avoided them. I love a lot of the shots! I have a roll of Street Candy I've been waiting to use ... need to find the right moment, especially since there is no consistent opportunity for street photography in East Texas. haha. I do love their new packaging, though!
Yeees, the packaging is great! Personally I find shooting with a soft release button more comfortable, I feel like I have a bit more control over the shutter button. But it’s annoying when you want to use a cable release since you obviously have to screw the button off beforehand. I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts once you shot the roll! :)
@@KarinMajoka Cool, that makes sense! I will try one if/hopefully when I finally get another rangefinder/Leica style camera, especially. I'll definitely share my thoughts on the film when I'm able to finish it! I know to look for something maybe a bit moodier, now, too. 😎
Doing street photography in Germany is so special, you have to hide all the time, shoot the road and your feet while you walk, and be afraid to be caught when pointing your camera toward people)
Also klare Empfehlung :)
I like the look you got with the 15mm, far and extra wide just seems to fit certain scenes and I think your 15mm images look great. That said I had the 15mm as well and sold it to get the 21mm which was a good compromise. Between a 15mm and a 28mm. Glad I stumbled upon your channel. been working my way though all your content.
Apart from the trolololol, the missed opportunities also showed me that even when you're literally walking with your camera in your hand ready to shoot, you can still not get the shot. A good reminder.
Sadly that’s very true, at least for me. One reason might simply be that I overlook specific things because I focus (literally haha) on something else, but sometimes it’s also because I am to afraid to take a shot from time to time. I am sure it’s possible to improve in both and I try to work on that :)
I liked the high contrast aspect of this film including the black shadows. I was interested in the shots with the 15mm as I am thinking about this lens versus the 21mm. These Voigtlander lenses seem really sharp!
For sure, I am a huge fan of the Voigtländer lenses! I think both lenses are really great, depending on what you are looking for. 15mm is a large portion wider than the 21mm, however the 21mm might be a bit more versatile. Hope you can make a choice - pretty sure you won’t go wrong with either way!
To be honest I like the pictures taken with the 15mm more. The one with two people taking a picture of a church is my favourite. I don't know if it's on purpose, but with the other lens quite often a foot, leg, arm usw. is missing. This is ofcourse possible when done carefully, but to me it looks like it just happened.
Thank for your feedback, I appreciate it! I cannot image shooting everything and always with the 15mm, but it’s refreshing to shoot that wide. With the 35mm it’s a bit of a trade off between narrow and wide, I don’t mind when there is some parts of the body missing when shooting, in trade to capture some emotion or interesting moment, but I understand that it’s not everybody’s preference :)
Karin. I’m about to develop my first roll of Street Candy shot with my Leica M-A. I’m going to be interested in how it turns out but what I’m a little concerned about is how I’m going to avoid fouling it when loading it on the spiral for the Paterson tank because it seems very thin and I expect it to be fiddly. Do you develop your own film and, if so, any thoughts?
Hey Martin, hope your development went well! Yes, I develop on my own, I also developed this roll of Street Candy in Xtol (1+1 dilution) for 12 minutes. And I agree, since the base was very thing it was fiddly, yet it did not seem like the film was easy to rip or break - it’s also worth to mention that the film does not have any running numbers around the edges so it’s also a bit tricky when scanning.
Hi! I'm also do street photography and am planning on traveling to Germany as soon as the quarantine ends. I recently discussed with some friends who live or have recently been there that Germans tend to be very protective about their pictures being taken. And I'm also believe there was a change in legislation recently that supports that protectiveness. That's why not seeing anybody confront you in your video was a pleasant surprise. But, if you were faced by someone asking you not to take or to delete the picture you just took of them out of "datenschutz" concerns, how would you reply? Has that ever happened to you?
Hello and welcome to the world of street photography then. :) Well, I would say the law in Germany regarding street photography is a huge grey area. Generally you are allowed to take photos of people in public spaces and as far as I know you are allowed to publish those pictures if you have a.) the permission or b.) if you do it for artistic (and not commercial!) reasons. There are probably websites that can explain it more detailed than I can and I think Sean Tucker released a video about street photography rights where he also addressed the situation in Germany that's worth checking out. So far I have only had one single negative experience where somebody confronted me and asked to delete a picture. Since I was shooting film deleting was not possible but I respected that person's concern and did not post the photo online. But generally most of the time my experience was positive, either people don't notice me at all, they don't mind or when I am in doubt I ask for permission beforehand (which of course "ruins" the spontaneity of the situation but creates a new dynamic). I guess you have both options: regarding the law you are allowed to take pictures for artistic reasons so there is no need to delete a picture, but to be honest in respect of other people I think I would not insist on a shot most of the time.
It's early May 2021; six months after I first saw this video... I go street shooting for the first time since Covid, and guess what music I hear when I miss a shot!!!! Ought to be on every photographer's playlist... where's it from????
Looks like street photography is big in Munich Karin. Did the older distinguished gentleman, which was a missed opportunity, weigh on your mind? He was a cool dude but looked like he had forgot something? I should try street photography in the mean streets of Owosso, MI.
This one not so much, because I had a break and was drinking some water in the situation he looked over - therefore there was no chance I could have taken the shot anyway. And that was my thought as well, he probably forgot something haha
Thanks so much for your comment, I appreciate it! Hopefully once the chaos on this globe is a bit more sorted I also hope that traveling will be allowed again.
Yes, true! After I rewatched the video I saw this one too - well, next time maybe, we can only learn and get better from every missed opportunity :) and thanks a lot! ✌🏼

I have a roll of Street Candy in my fridge waiting to be shot. I love the snoozing gentleman on the bench 4:23 and the missed opportunities!
Just found you !
Mega nice Fotos😆
Plus Respekt wie schnell du fotografierst. Ich bin soo langsam....
Danke dir, freut mich!
Mach weiter so 👍
Cooler Kanalname! Und vielen Dank. :)
Another great video and awesome photos. Keep it up!
Thank you, I appreciate it ⚡️
Very well done. I especially like the very wide-angle shots.
Thank you, I appreciate it! :)
Great stuff! That older lady with the modern mountain bike would have been cool too. Really enjoying these videos.
Oh, I am sure there were plenty of other missed opportunities, as for example this one. Thanks! :)
Such a relaxing video. You've earned a subscriber!
Thanks so much for your kind words, I appreciate it! :)
Love the video, you shoot so quick its great! Do you look through the viewfinder or prefocus?
I often look through the viewfinder but not always. And I isr zone focusing, so I usually measure the distance and pre-focus before putting the camera to my eye
Really enjoyed the pace and editing of the video, thanks for sharing. Just subscribed! Good shots as well, there's a lot of potential in the ultra wide lens for street for sure.
thanks a lot David, I appreciate it! :)
A very enjoyable walk around town and some very nice shots! Well done!
Thank you Joe, I appreciate it. ⚡️
Nice, one of my favorite cities
I‘ll reply in English, since my Spanish is pretty rusty: thanks a lot for your comment, I appreciate it ✌🏼
Karin, nice work on street photos in Munich.
Norman
A really lovely demo of this film! also really impressed at your street photography confidence
Thank you Daniel, I appreciate it! :) Have you shot street candy before?
@@KarinMajoka I haven't yet actually. I may have to give it a go
To return to analog photography I had thought about getting a Leica M6. Thanks to you now I am sure. Your shots are very lovely, congratulations!
Wow, I feel honored to have played a tiny little role in your decision process. I am sure you will enjoy the M6 very much! Therefore welcome back to film :)
You're right about having to be close, but I loved those wideangle captures a lot! Possibly more than the 35mm...
Wieder ein sehr schöne Video
Love your videos! Keep it up!!
Thank you! I will ✌🏼
Nice shots! The 15mm style is unique!
It‘s for sure an interesting way of vision I will try to explore more in the future :)
Stunning pictures. The 15mm is surprisingly sharp without too much bending on the edge of the frame.
:) Yes, I think it is not all that "fish-eye-y" compared to a lot of other wide angle lenses.
Great video! Also liked the results!
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it ✌🏼
Nice video, I really enjoyed it. Got me wanting to get my old Minolta out and dust it off. 👍📸
Even the best will have had moments where they thought 'Damn, I should've had that on film'
Focus on the shots that were made, and even more on the good shots you've made. Learn from those, and develop yourself to see 'in the future'
Get a feel for certain things to happen before they do, and be ready when it does happen ;)
I really liked the 'missed shots' moments, the music was a great touch
Thank you Elizabeth, I appreciate it! I think we have to embrace those "fails" and "misses" more. :)
Great shot!!
Thanks ✌🏼
POV street with film camera 😀 Lovely pictures! I will probably do a POV with my Pentax SP2, thank you for the idea 😉
Thank you! I’ll make sure to check out your channel and take a look at your POV, since I love to discover new photographers :)
@@KarinMajoka thanks! Let me know what I can improve? 😁
I really like your stile on street photography. Really cool pictures!
Thank you, I appreciate it ⚡️
The ultra wide shots are definitely my faves from this video.
Love the channel, very keen to pick up an M6 one day 👍👍
15mm is spectacular, you do it so well
It's a focal length you surely have to get used to, but I like to experiment with something that wide. Thank you! :)
To be honest it scares me off now as people can, from what I hear, destroy you with their lawyers. What's your take on this? Does it make you nervous or keep you from posting online?
Einfach Klasse deine München-Folge Karin!
Lovely photos!
Thank you :)
Es war nett München wieder zu sehen 😉
Sehr cool! Und danke für deinen Kommentar :)
lovely shots.the missing opportunities made me giggle.
Thank you, I appreciate it! Trust me, it was only a handful, there were plenty of more opportunities I have missed 😅
Ultra Weitwinkel funktioniert sehr gut 👍
I really enjoyed your the format of your video it was refreshing. I have some Street Candy I really should shoot I really like your results.
Thank you! Have fun shooting, it surely is a cool film that gives a bit of a different look.
@@KarinMajoka thank you 👌🏾
3:33 i would have shot :) the alligent on the coblestone path is amazing!
Loved the video, took me back to Munich, exploring the area early this year.
Oh, so true, another great (missed) opportunity! Thanks a lot for your comment, glad to hear that you had a great time in Munich. :)
The wide angle lens are so cool.
thank you ⚡️
Echt starke Bilder eingefangen!
Danke dir :)
that shot at 4:23 though!! So swift and clean
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it ⚡️
Your missed shot music is so funny. It makes the video for me.
Thank you ✌🏼⚡️
I have used a Leica M8 for street with 50 mm and 35 mm lenses which translate to a 70 mm full frame and 50 mm full frame approx .
Great video! Nice POV too...trying to work out where the gopro was mounted
I can solve that mystery: I was using a chest mount 😬
Doing street photography in Germany is so special, you have to hide all the time, shoot the road and your feet while you walk, and be afraid to be caught when pointing your camera toward people)
Hey Karin,
Also klare Empfehlung :)
Hi Karin,
I like the look you got with the 15mm, far and extra wide just seems to fit certain scenes and I think your 15mm images look great. That said I had the 15mm as well and sold it to get the 21mm which was a good compromise. Between a 15mm and a 28mm. Glad I stumbled upon your channel. been working my way though all your content.
Sorry for the late reply, but I wanted to say thank you for your kind comment! :) 21mm is surely also an interesting focal length
Great video💥💥
Thank you :)
the title card song i thought was an ad at first, it could be my ringtone lol
If you are interested I can send you that bit to make a ringtone out of it hahaha
@@KarinMajoka haha yes!
yo yo yo ...ho ho ho ... cool song.
Haha thanks 😬
Apart from the trolololol, the missed opportunities also showed me that even when you're literally walking with your camera in your hand ready to shoot, you can still not get the shot. A good reminder.
Sadly that’s very true, at least for me. One reason might simply be that I overlook specific things because I focus (literally haha) on something else, but sometimes it’s also because I am to afraid to take a shot from time to time. I am sure it’s possible to improve in both and I try to work on that :)
Nice video, like the wide angle photo's
PimK thank you! ⚡️hope there will be better times to use the wide angle on the street, where it’s okay to get „too“ close
Your shadow pictures are very nice.
Jerome Murphy thank you, Jerome! :)
Kudos for bringing back the trololol song :D
Thanks ✌🏼 pretty sure I will have that stuck in my head from now on every time I miss a shot
@@KarinMajoka ah well emotions, there is a reason my job is with steel and not with people 😂 Just kidding, maybe I just focus on "rules" to much.
Love your videos. Hopefully I can get and m6 soon
Thank you! Fingers crossed for you, you won’t regret that purchase :)
I wish I could go to a city like this for a photo vacation! Guess I will have to make due with my city.
We always wish for what we don’t have I guess. Sometimes the only way is to make to most out of it though :)
I enjoyed the 15mm shots as well as the 35mm... probably a more traditional film like HP4 or T-Max would balance the contrast better.
I actually like the heavy contrast, but it's surely not a film for every situation.
hi, what cam do you use to record this?
Nice "show" and like your intro, "Hi, this is me, Karin"...... :-))
I realized I rarely introduce myself in my videos, so I thought it would be time to use my name more often. And thank you! :)

I miss Munich, love the video, maybe they'll allow us Americans to visit again soon.
Thanks so much for your comment, I appreciate it! Hopefully once the chaos on this globe is a bit more sorted I also hope that traveling will be allowed again.
I'd say 3:56 to 4:00 was also a missed opportunity. Great video though, love your shots!
Yes, true! After I rewatched the video I saw this one too - well, next time maybe, we can only learn and get better from every missed opportunity :) and thanks a lot! ✌🏼
hi, which camera strap and bag are you using? i'm looking especially for a backpack that I can use for street photography but haven't found the perfect one yet
The bagpack I am using is called the Vanguard Veoflex 47M. Currently I am using a self-made leather strap with Peak Design anchors, but back in this video I used a strap by "Hyperion Camera Straps" and can absolutely recommend it!
