The time I was making the bootable drive i got errors and unconnected all usb plugs (the problem for mine, I was connected cooling pad it makes problem for creating bootable drive) Mac is so picky*

    PLEASE DO NOT choose APFS during formatting your internal drive, like is said at 4:50
    I had a major issue wherein the Mojave installer did NOT allow me to install to an APFS drive & said my MacBook Air needed a firmware update to install to APFS & needs a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition to continue in the next step.
    Thankfully I have some experience with these things & with some presence of mind, I restarted & went into Online Recovery (Command + R) & reformatted my drive back to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) & then come back to the installer again to remedy this.
    Maybe it's a thing for older macs but to be safe, just format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) if it shows as default during the erase process.
    (Edit: Did some digging & it could be because I was upgrading from Mac OS Sierra (10.2). Apparently, APFS was introduced with Mac OS High Sierra (10.3) & that could've been the culprit. Nevertheless, safer to stick with Extended (Journaled) while upgrading to Mac OS Mojave (10.14))
    IMPORTANT NOTE: Even if you do as I've said & stick to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) during formatting your drive, don't worry, Mac OS Mojave will install as APFS file system anyway once its up & running. So stick to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) during the format process at 4:50 & avoid all hassles regardless of your Mac or the Mac OS you are upgrading.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Other than that, thank you for the video :)

    I had a problem with the new updates to Mojave and want to use my time machine to restore my computer but I am concerned the old Mojave will once again create problems. So, once I do the clean install on a new internal hardrive, will the old Mojave in time machine take over or will the clean install prevail?

    • @Auto-Technica
      @Auto-Technica  3 года назад

      That is a tough call to make. You never know what exactly is causing the problem, but I think that it's probably best if you avoid the time machine backup if you're having issues.
      The thing is though you could try it out, worst case is you'd have to do one more clean restore. If you have some time to spare and don't need your computer for like a day or two, it maybe worth trying out.

    My current 500mb drive in my MacBook Pro 2012 has a corrupted version of Catalina (which is the WORST IOS of all that I’ve used) and not enough room in its memory to reinstall and no backup to my drive’s files. I believe it was corrupted by a VLC player update. I have a empty 2TB Hybrid drive and a 32 GB thumb drive and a drive dock. I also am thinking about installing a 1TB SSD instead of using the Hybrid since the price has come down so much.I have no bootable thumb drive copy of Mojave or Catalina. I can run my original drive in my dock though.If I install a SSD how would I go about making a bootable copy of Mojave on my thumb drive to install instead of Catalina? Can I do it at the library on their PCs ? I Appreciate your videos, hope you can help.

    Hello. Recently updated from High Sierra to Mojave. After turning on the computer, authorization, everything is fine within 10 seconds, after which everything freezes. The image freezes completely. But when I press the keyboard, I hear system sounds (sound change, brightness change).
    Downgrading the system did not help, formatting ssd too. I gave it to the workshop, they returned the laptop to me, they said that the problem seemed to be with the EFI, they returned it to me with High Sierra. Now I'm afraid to upgrade to Mojave. Help me please with the problem please.
    What should I do if the problem persists? Should I try it again, with your way of installation?

    • @Auto-Technica

      I've never heard of any issue like this before, and it sounds super weird. If you gave it to a shop, I am fairly certain they probably tried to install Mojave and couldn't because they too ran into issues.
      To be safe, I would probably just stay on High Sierra, because it is very similar to Mojave and doesn't feature too many changes.

      Usually that is the best way to update because you don't lose any data. However, sometimes during the installation process something can go wrong and you end up with a computer stuck in the install process. If you can't get the computer out of the install mode, I think a clean install is probably your best bet.

    • @Auto-Technica
      @Auto-Technica  5 лет назад +1

      The method I use is a bit cavalier, but I find that it works the best. What I do is I get an external hard disk and copy all the files I need manually. Create new folders on the External Hard Disk to replicate my computer. So what I do is make a folder for desktop, documents, downloads, etc... Then just copy the stuff I need. Usually there is a lot of junk or old files that you don't really need, and this also acts as a method to clean house.
      Any backup that restores all your files and data is susceptible to copying over the issue/corrupt files that may be causing you problems in the first place.

      It sounds like the install went wrong. Did you make sure that you erased your entire hard drive and formated it as an APFS drive?

  • @TheHornet79
    @TheHornet79 5 лет назад

    You don't have to do this step anymore as in downloading the installer from the Disk Creator. The Mojave installation from the app store is 22MB and you have to run it because it gives you the option to install it on a separate drive. Turns out you need at least 22GB to install it on a USB stick.
    Since I only have a 16GB at the moment I was only able to install High Sierra, install it on my MacBook pro's SSD and then update it to Mojave.

      Nope! All of that is ready to go and you won't have to do anything. The only thing you have to install are the apps you want to use! :)

      @@shakirhurrah2535 It might just be something simple. Try using another USB port and if that doesn't work try making another installer with a different USB Flash Drive. I would make sure the Flash Drive is 32 GB and USB 3.0.

    did not show up in applications folder. Do you even know what you are talking about

    • @Auto-Technica
      @Auto-Technica  5 лет назад

      The applications folder is the default download folder for anything downloaded from the App Store. If the updater did not show up there, that’s quite weird and I’ve never seen that happen.
      The updater should also open automatically after it’s downloaded. I recommend you try the download again because it might have failed or gone wrong in some way.
