This was perfect!! Very well organized. I did the latest High Sierra update and it totally got stuck and would not finish the update. Unfortunately I didn't have a backup from time machine so had to start fresh. This was the ticket!! Thank you!!!
Thank you brother! I like the step by step simple process you do. I am more on the PC side and I am just learning the MAC interface so this is very helpful. Hello, I had a lot of trouble getting a clean hard drive and clean install, with many many dead ends. Then I did a secure erase with disk utility, the second option with 2 passes, took a couple of hours but by following this excellent tutorial and enlightening comments a working "install thumb drive" was created and installed as a going operating system. (almost never been able to do that before) The 2010 iMac was my Dads and had what seemed like a bad graphics card, even to the Apple store, I started to muck around a bit and sometimes there was a perfect screen so about 60 restarts etc etc. and three weeks later, within an hour and a half, and in the words of Ace Ventura ... @@Auto-Technica thanks for this tutorial dude. Was able to follow all the steps up until the booting up my Mac. Hit the option key but the installer doesn't come or, or the drive. Just internet recovery
I’m glad that worked! For most people the internet recovery options works just fine. This method is mostly if you have a spotty internet connection that might cause delays with the restore!
Auto Technica just to add some details. maybe it helps someone. I bought a second hand 27 inch mid 2011 iMac 3 days ago. tried to reinstall the latest OS via recovery, High Sierra - did not work, it had remote management on it (some German company). Tried to reset it to factory settings and install the OS it came with, Lion - did not work, got the “can’t download the additional components” message. Tried your tutorial, installed High Sierra via USB, still got the remote management window...was a little bit dissapointend, thought it would not work. After some mins got back, clicked everywhere and chosed the option “my mashine does not use internet” or something like this and I was able to continue the installation. Finally I have admin rights on the iMac, checked the profiles, there is no MDM profile on it. Thanks again! Stay safe!!!!
I don't see how. The App Store no longer allows downloading an older OS. You can't even find them via a search. The only way I see is to enter Recovery Mode on the target computer, connect to the App Store during that process and then enter the ORIGINAL OWNER's user name and password to get the ORIGINAL OS that came with the machine. If I enter my own user name and password, which are registered for Mac Minis I bought with Sierra on them, it says "Currently Unavailable" even for Catalina, which is the original OS on the laptop I was donated. There is no OS on the laptop, only a recovery partition and an erased OS partition.
Mate, thanks for sharing this, it helps me massively, I have another problem during the reinstallation, a warning pop up says "This disk doesn't use the GUID Partition Table scheme" which holds me up for the reinstallation. In your video, when you erase the hard drive I didn't find any options of this GUID Partition, would you help please?! Thanks in advance! Joe from Sydney Australia.
Hey Joe, Glad you found this useful. The issue you are having is that when you are erasing your hard drive in Disk Utility (13:46), in the format section your computer probably has GUID Partition or some other type of partition selected. What you need to do is select Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and you shouldn't have this issue any longer. Let me know if this works!
By default, Disk Utility only displays the volumes. Click on the View icon (first left icon on the icon bar) then select "Show all devices". You'll then be able to see the whole set of containers and partitions. You'll then be able to erase or verify your drives' partition maps.

Hi, Thanks for the video. I’ve macbook pro 2015 with Os High sierra and I want to reinstall by cleaning/resetting using bootable usb. I’ve iwork installed by default. If I get them again when installing new software via usb? Thanks
Yes, Apple has made the iWork suite a free download for all Macs. However it won't be available immediately after the install, you can install them from the App Store for free without any issues.
Many thanks. Please I try to install Sierra. The image file is in the USB but when I boot from the USB, and the initial screen appears. I don't have access to the mouse and keyboard.
That's weird. I think you'll just have to connect a USB keyboard/mouse if your devices keyboard/trackpad aren't recognized. If you have the apple wireless keyboard, connect it with the lightning charging port to the computer.
Thanks brother. Did a clean install on a 2008 mini w Lion and the only problem is safari can’t establish a secure connection. Tried everything. Can you help?

Anyone know what’s up? I hope it’s not the SSD cable?

macOS High Sierra will remove on Apple server. so plz help me what should i do. right now i am using macOs Mojave, but i am not comfortable with them. plz guide properly. thanks.
It may be an issue with the installer you downloaded. Before you try anything else, try to delete the current installer you have and download a new copy from the Mac App Store.
Is there any way of doing a clean install and preserving the third party softwares you've downloaded and installed? I'd rather not have to spend an entire day doing that again. Hopefully this isn't a paradoxical question
I think it's theoretically possible but I haven't tried it. You will probably have to create two partitions on your hard drive and then install both using separate installers. It's quite simple if you want Windows and Mac because you can use Bootcamp. However it will be a lot harder if you want anything else.
Hi! Do I need internet to install the high sierra update to my system? I use the USB way to install it cause my internet can't download the macos sierra on my macbook and always fails
Hi there, thanks for sharing. I have a MBP early 11' with that GPU issue. So I've followed your steps but after some minutes the screen got like stuck... blank screen... I tried many times, some times it got black screen... do you have any idea?
Auto Technica no actually, what I did now was recovery from time capsule and reinstall OSX Lion :/ looks working so far after this I will upgrade to High Sierra.
did all the above and when started up I got the message " you may not install to this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition" ( my HD is defect, I plugged in a SSD external )
So if I updated to Mac OS Mojave and it’s bugging out my whole system and I have a high Sierra installer on a usb I delete my current system and install Mac OS but the thing is it says the volume is APFS and I can’t change it to Mac OS X journaled for Mac OS high Sierra
My bootable usb drive didn't works, but one Important thing is Erase Internal Drive and connect wifi after make clean install from the server. Everything is going well.
Hey, You need to go to the Mac App Store and search for High Sierra. You will get the option to download it from there. You were probably looking in the update section of the Mac App Store, which is why you only had the 21MB update show up.
did you by chance get a screen with an apple logo with a loading bar at the very end, yours looks white but mine is grey or black. how long did this process take. please let me know. thank you
You will get an Apple Logo with the loading bar multiple times throughout the process, that is normal. The process can take anywhere from 20 minutes unto a few hours in my experience. There are a few factors that effect the speed of this install, which include: - Hard Drive: If you don't have an SSD/Flash Drive, it will take a while for the install to be written onto your drive. Even with an SSD it can take up to an hour or more. - Flash Drive: If you have an older flash drive/computer that doesn't support USB 3.0 transfers the rate of transfer of information will be slower, which again means the process will take longer. So don't worry too much about the process taking some time, as long as you can see that the progress bar is moving at least a little bit every couple of minutes, you should just sit back and let it do its thing.
Auto Technica mine wasn't moving at all, left it all night nothing, i can install El Capitan but sierra and high sierra won't install. Even apple genius couldn't figure out why it won't install. So they told me to purchase a new one or replace the motherboard for 800 😱 haha. Guess it's time to upgrade.
+Sadat Mohammed why were you using terminal? You don’t have to use terminal to make your flash drive. Just use the application I used in this video. It’ll save you a lot of time and headache.
Will this work for a completely blank unformatted ssd. Hdd died In macbook pro. Just followed your directions on a family members mac can I use this installer once i replace to an ssd but as I said it will be a blank drive unformatted thanks
Yeah this process works just fine on a blank SSD. Just make sure to create a partition like I showed in the video with the APFS file format (that's the new format now for the newer versions). I have an updated video for if you want to check that out too: ruclips.net/video/TXZ6SwMZw20/видео.html
I honestly don't know, I remember trying years ago and hitting a bunch of dead ends and giving up. I don't know if anything has changed over the years, but knowing Apple it more than likely has not changed. You will most likely not be able to make a bootable disk without a Mac.
Theoretically yes, but do check if you MacBook supports High Sierra before you try this. Just find out which is the highest version your computer can support and install that. The process will remain the same regardless of which version of macOS you use.
Thanks ! Yes, in the middle on the install process. I've figured out that it was due to the usb flash drive and/or the Install macOS High Sierra.app which might have been corrupted. The error happened after the first reboot once install starts. Since then, i restored the system it previously had (10.11 El Capitan), then from there, downloaded Mojave from MAS (High Sierra isn't available) then upgraded successfully (yes, crazy). If I have patience, i'll do the clean install from there, which will be easier since the recovery partition will be clean on my mac. The Mac i'm using is MacBookAir7,2 with 8GB RAM.

In your video, when you erase the hard drive I didn't find any options of this GUID Partition, would you help please?! Thanks in advance! Joe from Sydney Australia.
Hey Joe,
Glad you found this useful.

Is there any way of doing a clean install and preserving the third party softwares you've downloaded and installed? I'd rather not have to spend an entire day doing that again. Hopefully this isn't a paradoxical question
Can I have 2 bootable OS versions and have the option of selecting which version i want ?
I think it's theoretically possible but I haven't tried it. You will probably have to create two partitions on your hard drive and then install both using separate installers. It's quite simple if you want Windows and Mac because you can use Bootcamp. However it will be a lot harder if you want anything else.
Hi! Do I need internet to install the high sierra update to my system? I use the USB way to install it cause my internet can't download the macos sierra on my macbook and always fails
You will need to download the installer initially, but once that is downloaded and on the USB installer you won’t require an internet connection.
Thank you very much
Hello friend. I try this solution but always show me firmware problem. Any ideas?
Hi there, thanks for sharing. I have a MBP early 11' with that GPU issue. So I've followed your steps but after some minutes the screen got like stuck... blank screen... I tried many times, some times it got black screen... do you have any idea?
+Luciano Silva Carmo that sounds odd. Have you tried another flash drive?
Auto Technica no actually, what I did now was recovery from time capsule and reinstall OSX Lion :/ looks working so far after this I will upgrade to High Sierra.
+Luciano Silva Carmo yeah that's definitely one way to get it done. Let me know if it works out.
did all the above and when started up I got the message " you may not install to this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition" ( my HD is defect, I plugged in a SSD external )
This is a known issue when trying with external drives, have you maybe tried Mojave or Catalina to see if they work instead of High Sierra?
My downloaded High Sierra, when installed, opens to the utility disk rather than the OS. Any idea what happened?
Try removing the install disk/USB before booting and see if you have the same issue.
So if I updated to Mac OS Mojave and it’s bugging out my whole system and I have a high Sierra installer on a usb I delete my current system and install Mac OS but the thing is it says the volume is APFS and I can’t change it to Mac OS X journaled for Mac OS high Sierra
High Sierra uses APFS too.
My bootable usb drive didn't works, but one Important thing is Erase Internal Drive and connect wifi after make clean install from the server. Everything is going well.
hi plz help me i cant find the 4gb installer i am only getting the 21 mb update
Hey,
You need to go to the Mac App Store and search for High Sierra.
You will get the option to download it from there.
You were probably looking in the update section of the Mac App Store, which is why you only had the 21MB update show up.
I'm not able to download Mac OS high Sierra from my apple store😢
did you by chance get a screen with an apple logo with a loading bar at the very end, yours looks white but mine is grey or black. how long did this process take. please let me know. thank you
You will get an Apple Logo with the loading bar multiple times throughout the process, that is normal.
The process can take anywhere from 20 minutes unto a few hours in my experience. There are a few factors that effect the speed of this install, which include:
- Hard Drive: If you don't have an SSD/Flash Drive, it will take a while for the install to be written onto your drive.
OUCH! That is an expensive repair. A new one definitely makes a lot more sense! :)
Hey bro, urgent, when I try to erase my Macintosh HD, the format only shows 4 different APFS, why ? How to solve it ?
Because u have SSD drive installed inside
support.apple.com/en-us/HT208033
Бехзод Мирзоев Which one is the recommended to use?
/Applications/Install macOS High Sierra.app does not appear to be a valid OS installer application.
this is my feed back when I went to terminal
@@Auto-Technica awesome thank you brother stay safe
@@jestonhopper5137 You're welcome! Same to you. :)
Fuuuu ty bro
You’re welcome!
Do you have a SSD.
Bro i need wifi driver nd some more drivers tht it need on high Sierra wifi not working
What are you installing on? All the drivers come preloaded.
Ik u said that we need a mac but is there any possible way to do it with a windows pc?
I honestly don't know, I remember trying years ago and hitting a bunch of dead ends and giving up. I don't know if anything has changed over the years, but knowing Apple it more than likely has not changed. You will most likely not be able to make a bootable disk without a Mac.
@@Auto-Technica dang well thanks anyway
Ill try this with my windows 10 pc
It won't be the same exact steps, but the principle is mostly the same.
Can this work on my mac pro mid 2009?
Theoretically yes, but do check if you MacBook supports High Sierra before you try this. Just find out which is the highest version your computer can support and install that. The process will remain the same regardless of which version of macOS you use.
15:19 I got an error message "macOS could not be installed on your computer", I don't know what to do...
Does it say that in the middle of the install process? Or before it even starts?
I'm a bit confused. Also which Mac model are you trying this on?
Sounds like you have a good plan in place! Good luck!
hi all,
when i insert the bootable USB to the Macbook Pro, after pressing the Alt-key and selecting the drive with the OS, it starts loading but than it gets stuck right at the end. Can anyone help ? i really don't know how to sort out this issue
Hi Silvano, I'm having the same problem. Did you manage to fix it? Please help
