- Retired KCPD intelligence Detective Gary jenkins interviews a former cellmate of lefty's, Joe Pistone who worked him undercover, and retired FBI agent Doug Fencl who broke the news to Lefty and Sonny Black Napolitano that Donnie Brosko was really FBI agent Joe Pistone. #mafia #mobster #joepistone
Amazing interview...you have a new subscriber!
Gary Jenkins is truly one of the most classy gentleman I have ever heard on the internet. I have enjoyed just about every show he has ever done. And his voice is perfect for broadcasting. One of the best shows I ever heard was an interview he did with a gentleman who was assigned by Tony Accardo to chaperone his daughter on her prom night or something. Talk about a dangerous assignment!!! The guy told the whole story in the podcast and said that the daughter had a mind of her own and the Chicago godfather was pleased with the chaperone....wow...what a relief! 😊 I wish someone would post that episode here as I can not find it.
Thanks so much. I can see you are a long time listener.
@@GaryJenkinsMafiaDetective My pleasure Gary. If it is no sweat for you to post that interview with the guy that was a chaperone for Tony Accardo's daughter on the night of her prom then I would love to see it here as many would enjoy it. Mr. Accardo handled it in a very kind way.
@@booklover3959 yes I can do that. I don’t have video but I’ll get something together for you tube. It will probably be a month of more but I’ll get it done. I have been thinking I should take some of those old interviews and out a few pictures on them and put them on you tube.
Nothing but nothing but right
" DONNIE, YOUR GOING TO KILL ME WITH THAT DRAFT!" 🤌
That line was so funny. Micheal Franseze talked about that line and that he was laughing hysterically because it actually happened to him when he use to be Anthony “Mush”Russo driver and drove him around and Anthony smoked like that also and Micheal once rolled the window down and Anthony said to him”what are you trying to kill me with that draft “ lol
@@tomking7080 why are you bringing Michael franzese into this for? Nobody was talking about him....
Michael knew lefty and has spoken about that scene on RUclips before

I was his celly for a lil while we used to whack off together
I am southern Italian and as a boy growing up there I met people involved in the mafia. I met little fish but I have been around big shots in occasions. We feared them for they were unscroupolus but never really loved or respected them. Now, in America, I got a cultural shock. There are actually people who are fan of such a culture. It is really hard to get. I am not saying that there is nothing interesting in their stories, but loving the mob?! Why for god sake?
the movies made them out to be men of honour, and some of them were, helping people in their neighbourhoods and such, but the italian mob were completely different - ruthless and more careless about collateral damage, whereas the american mob had civilians mostly off-limits, so it's no surprise that someone whose experience is of that side had no regard for them at all.
True
For me personally seeing what the modern gang is like now it gives you more respect to how the mob conducted themselves, obviously they're still bad people at the end of the day but it's still better than how modern gangs conduct themselves.
Your question technic is awesome having questions from other mob guys and giving Gary the time to answer is outstanding and you have a new subscriber Sir
Thank you so much. Tell your friends!
I heard Joe say that also and I heard his celly was out there and I was hoping I’d fine this! Heck ya stoked for this
Yeah my friend Steve told me he heard Joe say this in an interview and he called me and told me. Then he said, “I was his cellmate for a while and Joe is right.” So I knew I had to do a show for you guys.
That’s exactly what I’ve heard about Joe Pistone that he’s a great story teller!!!!!!!!
Pistone wore one of his drag outfits and was the first to penetrate the Ladies Junior League in my Town.
He busted their charity yearly pie sales event for not filing a 401 c.
Lefty was a stand up guy out and out gangster.
a narcissist sociopath standing up for his "religion". Admirable, indeed.
Known in all five boroughs! Fahgettaboutit
Hed bi😮
That's an oxymoron.
A stand up guy and a gangster?
why didnt we ask the celly what lefty wanted to do to joe pistone after the end..
Good suggestion. I don't think they discussed any personal feelings about Pistone. My friend Steve was not a "crime" friend to Lefty. They never discussed any real crimes. Steve kidded him about it a little, but no substantial discussion.
Great interview Gary 💯💪👊

You do a fantastic job with these videos Gary, having lefty's cell mate on your show was the most educational and interesting show, by the way, lefty had cancer of the testecals and the penis. Enjoying this interview very much, sounds like the movie was accurate in his portrayal, nice conversation
I liked this entire show. Little known and true stories.
Great conversation. Very interesting. This is essential listening for anyone interested in Mafia history. Can't wait to hear more!
I think Steve did provide insight into the mob in prison. He has more.
Love the interview we need more of these hi from Colorado you just got a new sub
I agree but do you know how hard it is to get these kinds of great inside stories? Very hard.
You got give lefty some credit on one of the wiretaps he said " id rather go to jail for the rest of my life than rat on my friends"
Yep, he was a “stand up” guy. Steve St. John was too. He was offered a deal and he refused an early out.
thats right, lefty stood up, he didn't snitch therefore the mob gave him a pass. He didn't die like all of the guys that introduced Donnie to other made guys (tony mirra and sonny black napolitano) murdered by their own crew.
People may say want they want about "Lefty", but in the final analysis he was one of the very few stand up guys! RIP "Lefty". Besides "Lefty", Paul (the Waiter) Ricca , Johnny Roselli and few others there were only a few really true mafiosi. Pistone may talk all he wants, but "Lefty" didn't crack or bend.
John Gotti
There's a lot more than you think. Way more guys stand up than flip just so you know.
Awesome interview thanks for sharing 👍
I'm just thinking. Lefty got what he wanted in the end.
He complained in life he wasn't given his due with regard to all he'd done for la Cosa nostra.
But now he's this immortalised iconic mob figure who will live on in legend.
I wouldn't mind living on in legend form!
You are correct about that!
He wasn't a good guy.

Great interview. Very cool
Woulda liked more stories of this guy with Lefty...What would Lefty talk about?Did you ever argue with him? What about? What kinda cellmate was he?Did he ever talk about Donnie or what got him there?Did he ever get in a physical fight there?etc etc...Feel like thia guy said close to nothing other than one way thing and all about Lefty which we knew.
I will ask him. He does not want to talk about a lot of things from the penitentiary. Steve is a guy who could have walked away from his sentence if he had talked and he refused. I was happy to get that story.
@@GaryJenkinsMafiaDetective Yeah fair enough.I woulda given him some questions prior maybe to being on camera you wanted to ask...and he could checkmark the ones he wanted to ask....Good job with what you had to work with and getting ahold of him!
That stand up guy joke was cold but that’s how they joked
If you ever worked around or were in close proximity of a group of tough guys, this kind of humor is pretty common.

Great interview. Gary - I Wonder if Steve could talk in another video more about Paul "No Legs" Hankish, the former WV boss for the Pgh LCN who got 22 years in 1990 and any other Pgh related mob guys.
I will ask but I don’t think he got very close to Hankish. He mainly would only hang with Italian mob guys.
@@GaryJenkinsMafiaDetective thanks, maybe he met some other Pittsburgh guys over the years he can talk about?
I’ll ask I think I’m gonna see him tomorrow
I have a show coming out this Sunday, April 16, that has a lot about Paul Hankish.
Great interview
Thank you it was a fun one to do.
He gets the guy put away for 20 years, got his "friend" Sonny Black brutally murdered, and then made a killing himself from his books/movie/etc etc etc...
He was also an FBI agent too, right? He berates the _class_ of these guys but clearly doesn't have an ounce of class, or decency, himself.
He was an FBI agent whose job was to infiltrate the mafia and provide evidence of whatever crimes that he could gather that would lead to the arrest of those responsible.
Wow did he do that well! The FBI and the justice system awards no additional points for “class”, whatever that means lol
He accomplished exactly what his job required him to do, better than anyone that had ever done it. I hope he makes even more money from books or interviews or movies or however he can, for risking his life so that people that stole from others could be brought to justice. What a legend!
Class and the FBI don’t belong in the same sentence. Lol
That was his job!!! That’s what undercover agents are supposed to do. He felt bad that Sonny was taken out but that was Sonny’s,Lefty’s and Mira’s own faults for not checking Joe/Donnie out. They seen that Donnie was bringing in money and that they could make money off him and the greed got them. Sonny and Mira were both wacked because they brought Donnie around. Donnie felt bad for Sonny but he didn’t care about Mira, nobody liked Mira. Plus Mira tried to get Donnie wacked by saying that Donnie stole $250,000 from the family which wasn’t true but Sonny saved him in a Sitdown. Lefty was on his way to get wacked but the Feds picked him up on his way there. Joe risked his life everyday. If they found out that Joe was a agent he probably would of gotten wacked. But that would of been a bad move because then the Feds would off come down really hard on the Mob. Like when Gus Farace murdered DEA Agent Everett Hatcher in 1989 DEA supervisor Robert Stutman went to John Gottis house and told him that if they don’t hand over Farace that they are going to have cops, agents all over them. He also told John that if he goes inside a bathroom in a restaurant that agents will be right next to him. A month later Farace was found dead sitting in the passenger seat of a car in a gang land-style murder in Bensonhurst,Brooklyn.
@@tomking7080 It was his job to write books, make movies, and go on TV berating the guys he _took down_ ?
@@pauliedibbs9028 Off course not but when he had retired from the FBI,he only got a extra $500 for those 7 years also, and he had a opportunity to write a book he did. Then the movie came along which brought other opportunities, that’s how it usually happens and he made some money. What’s wrong with that? I’m sure that most people in that position would do the same thing. He had kids that he needed to put through college and a mortgage to pay for also.
Awesome Gary!!!!
Thank You!

He wasn’t a soldier! He was a clown. He threw his own son under the bus and when his time was coming to his end he went into a depression. He got what he deserved. It wasn’t the ending he wanted.
@JhonnyCash-mo2wx Benjamin
@JhonnyCash-mo2wx maybe, but before he left he confessed his sins. So they say if you do that, God will forgive you if there is a God. He murdered. He broke a commandment. But there are 10 Commandments, and everybody breaks one of them, and there’s no difference between what is worse or not in God‘s eyes they’re all the same a sin.

Loved it bro
When you hear about gangsters the only ones who I think are 100% gangster are the ones who stick to their rules no matter what happens, they burn a card and say afew things when they get made, and to me the ones who keep their word are true gangsters
It's not a pick and choose career, when it gets tuff you stick with it till the end, and remember nobody forced them to join they had to work hard for it, maybe kill for it,
The movie Donnie Brasco didn’t portray Lefty that accurately. It made him look like a down on his luck gangster that had to break into parking meters to steal change. He was much more respected in real life than they make him look. Joe Pistone is an untrustworthy liar and the version of that story used for the movie should be taken with a grain of salt.
Lefty was just a soldier wasn't he? I didn't think he was a Capo.
Lefty never became capo because he was constantly owing people for his horrible gambling addiction. Sure he was a tough, top notch gangster but he was a gambling degenerate so he constantly owed bosses money and when. Shoot he had to pay all his debts to become made.
@@vanmoody you are right as far as I know he was a soldier.
Lol,you’d be surprised HOW MANY GUYS got parking meters and pay phones! Do you not understand how much money were in those back then lol? And I’m sorry but lefty couldn’t get made till he paid off debts!! So he wasn’t very good with money at ALL that’s not a knock on his stand up-ness just fact

I think that Pistone did like the life for some reasons. Plus he knew that he would never get in trouble for anything that he did. I’m sure that he left out some beatings he might of had to get involved in or something like that. But I think that Joe enjoyed being a gangster/mobster. He was undercover for 7 years. He obviously had built relationships with Lefty and Sonny Black. I know that he was doing his job but he had to off felt bad when Sonny was killed and Lefty went to prison. He didn’t care about Mira because nobody liked Mira.
