Great to get to know Chris better through this interview! Seems like a decent, down-to-earth bloke. As individuals, I'm sure all of them must have their moments of self-centeredness, but my gut tells me that there is a great degree of humility amongst them that has led to their longevity and perhaps explains their treating even their most poignant songs with a certain amount of nuttiness. That's what makes Madness (in my humble opinion).
Also, for what it's worth, I'm an American who has only recently reconnected with Madness after a 20 year hiatus. My visual memories are based on the late 90's. Due to some weight gain, hair loss and general aging, I had to work a bit to tell some of them apart, Lee and Mike in particular! :-)
Really looking forward to seeing the band live at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NY in 2024!

What a brilliant interview. I love the old stories about their first gig in a back garden, Suggs going off to the football and seeing Mike's ad for a new lead singer, seeing the Specials in the Hope and Anchor, the 2Tone tour, love it all.
However, I'm blown away by their freshness and creativity after all these years. This is a great interview for paying homage to the past but asking about their songwriting in the present - questions I'd love to ask if I had the chance. Brilliant, thank you
(I've come here via the Daniel Rachel book "Too Much Too Young" - reliving the old days and looking up any past and present interviews).

Great to see an interviewer asking about what Madness are currently doing, rather than just asking about the old videos. Great stuff.

@thomasmcdaid6024 there might be some clarity on Madness' new album in Part 2, but don't hold us to that 😅
