AFL players are arguably the best all round athletes from any sport. Most run between 12km and 22km a game, they have great eyebhand, foot co-ordination and are strong for the size. They do the kms on top of all the physical contact and contests and then get up and do it all over again sometimes 5 days after.

I'll also call out that Australian Rules has a salary cap, so unlike soccer in Europe where huge $$ come into plays, all AFL clubs are restricted to what they can spend on players, coaches and soft cap expenditures. This means the 'best' teams are ever changing and the most Premierships won consecutively since its introduction is 3, it makes for a much more interesting comp.

The game was invented to keep cricket players fit in winter in the mid 1800s , and so is played on a cricket field . I think it was based on Gaelic football from Ireland , Gaelic Football , Soccer and AFL are really the only games where the main way to score is to kick a ball through goals

Each season is played between March and September and games usually start between 4:30-7:30 AEST on Friday - Sunday
Some great teams of the last 20 or so years are Brisbane Lions (pronounced Briz-bin) from 2000-2002, Geelong Cats (Jee-long) from 2007-2011 and Hawthorn Hawks (Hor-thorn) from 2013-2015

The real origin of Aussie Rules is that someone looked at Gaelic football and thought "That's a good game. How can we ruin it?"
Have a look at Gaelic football, that's the orgin.

We call it flying high when they jump for a mark. It is fast and fun. It is played by elite athlete’s that can run an average of 20 kilometres while still keeping all skills. It is the best football anywhere and it was the first code.
The MCG is where the Grand Finals are always played except for Covid years. The Melbourne Cricket Ground holds over 90,000 fans and there is no feeling like being there.
You need to watch what happens when Lance”Buddy”Franklin scores his 1,000th goal. We do not hurt our players, he was safe.

When it comes to the “best team” there’s actually a bit of variety. The most dominant team of say the last five seasons would be the Richmond Tigers, who won the 2017, 2019 and 2020 Grand Finals. But last season and this season they’ve become fairly average. Last year’s Grand Final winners were the Melbourne Demons, who won the Grand Final for the first time since 1964, breaking the longest active drought in the league and passing it to the St Kilda Saints (my team), who haven’t won since 1966.
The “best” teams tend to be the most consistent. Like the Geelong Cats and Sydney Swans. One could say they’ve been the most consistent over the last 10-20 years. But because of player trading, retiring, long term injuries, there’s a lot of teams that go up and down.

The scorecard is easier to understand when you know what all the numbers mean. The first number is the Goals scored(20 goals are worth 6 points each that makes 120 points), the second number is the Behinds scored(10 behinds are worth one point each that makes10 points); the last number is the Points scored, and is the point value of goals added to the point value of behinds (120+10=130).

The bounce is not every 15 m, it’s “WITHIN” 15 m. Most players bounce the ball before running 15 m so that they don’t exceed the distance otherwise a free kick will be paid to the other team.
One of the most exciting games ever played is the 2005 semi-final between Sydney and Geelong. Search the video of the final quarter, or the final five minutes.
The games absolute superstar who recently kicked his 1000th goal for his career and was swamped by 20,000 fans invading the field to congratulate him, is Lance “Buddy” Franklin. Search for, “Lance Franklin’s best 23 goals.” (23 is his number.) you will be blown away by this guy.
The score, 20-10-130 means 20 goals x 6 points = 120 points, + 10 behinds = 130 total points, (The most total points decides the winner)
The grand final is usually around 100,000 fans and is electric. The atmosphere cannot be described to anyone who has not witnessed it. It’s also safe. Families take their kids there, because everyone wants to enjoy the game, and not to start fights and riots like some overseas sports. AFL is literally a religion in Australia.

To understand Aussie Rules, you need to see all the elements together; if you don't have time to watch a full game, check out the highlights. A full game, including breaks and extra time, can go up to two and a half hours; the best games to watch would be a Grand Final.

Wherever you are you’ll probably find an amateur league of Aussie rules. Most countries have one. Being amateur it’s not to the standard of the AFL, it’s more of a social game that anyone can play. Search for Aussie rules in your country. E.g. in America there is the USAFL, which has 40 different leagues including a woman’s league. Those amateur leagues are nowhere near as brutal as our Australian game.

Season has recently started, we are now into round 5 of 22 rounds. You can watch highlights packages for free on AFL's youtube channel.
Watching full games will require you to subscribe for international online streaming via the Watch AFL. However if you are keen to purchase a subscription, I would highly consider taking up an AFL Club International Membership as this subscription is often included with some other benefits. Then you will need to pick a team to support.

@AlohaSwishReacts about the Football (Footy) Codes all of Australian Rules Football, Rugby League Football, Rugby Union Football & finally Soccer (Football), which are,
For those who DISLIKE &/or HATE any Football (Footy) Code/s with a real passion would &/or will say these,
(1 One) Australian Rules Football, is referred as Aerial Ping Pong Football,
(2 Two) Rugby League Football, is referred as Thugby League Football,
(3 Three) Rugby Union Football, is referred as Thugby Union, &/or Rugby Yawnnion,
(4 Four) Football (Soccer), is referred as Wog Ball and also both Fairies &/or Queenies Game.
    (NOTE) Aerial Ping-Pong
A jocular (and frequently derisive) name for Australian Rules Football (or Aussie Rules as it is popularly called). The term derives from the fact that the play in this game is characterised by frequent exchanges of long and high kicks.
The term is used largely by people from States both of Queensland & New South Wales in which Rugby League Football and NOT Aussie Rules (Footy) Football as &/or is the major football code. This interstate and code rivalry is often found in evidence for the term, including the early evidence from the 1940s.
1947 West Australian (Perth) 22 April: In 1941 he enlisted in the A.I.F. and joined a unit which fostered rugby football. Renfrey did not join in the &oq;mud bath&cq; and did not play 'aerial ping-pong', as the rugby exponents in the army termed the Australian game, until 1946.
1973 J. Dunn, How to Play Football: Sydneysiders like to call Australian Rules 'Aerial Ping-Pong'.
But on the other hand, for those and including myself who actually do LIKE &/or LOVE any Football (Footy) Code/s with a real passion would &/or will say these, which are,
(1 One) Australian Rules Football, is referred as the real Australian Football (Footy) Code of Australia,
(2 Two) Rugby League Football, is referred as the Greatest Game of All,
(3 Three) Rugby Union Football, is referred the Game that they do Play in Heaven,
(4 Four) Football (Soccer), is referred as the Beautiful Game & the World Game & also the Real Football Code of course.
