Great reaction pal. The fields are huge, and the players are super fit, quick and tough. Most players average 10-12 miles per game. And with the ball constantly in motion, there's little time to rest. Keep enjoying our great game.
It's off-season at the moment for AFL as it's played in winter. The ten extra minutes for 'time on' is actually per quarter, not ten extra minutes in total, so they can potentially play 30 minute quarters. Then the fact that there are no offsides, no timeouts and it's such a free-flowing game on such a huge ground means that these guys can be running almost constantly for 2 hours while putting their bodies on the line... it'd be too much to ask of them to do it in the Australian summer so the season usually runs from March to September. Others have already mentioned highlight reels worth watching - the great Eddie Betts, Cyril Rioli and Dustin Martin. Mason Cox's 'Don't Believe in Never' is inspiring. He's an average player at best, but considering the fact that he hadn't even heard of AFL until 2014, he's done well to even make it to senior level.
Footy rules hard and the highlights are crazy. Goals from impossible distances and angles, huge hits, incredible catches (marks), and a decent amount of shit talking/pushing eachother n getting aggressive. And yes players have been kicked in the face before lol I remember one from about 15 years ago, Steven King on Jeff White, brutal. Oh and if a player takes a mark and then game ends, they can still have a shot for goal. So some games are literally won or lost after the siren
90 thousand people in the stadium, 20 million people at home or in bars watching. I had to work a Grand Final day one year at the restaurant I work at, we were so dead the managers and cooks were just huddled around a phone watching the game. Nobody came in for the entire match.
Hey man, you should check out the only American player in AFL, Mason Cox. He has a video called "Mason Cox Don't believe in never" Shows his journey from Texas to Australia.

Glad you enjoyed learning about our indigenous game, which is the oldest form of football (dating from 1958). I don't know why they say the Grand Final attendance is "90,000+" on this video, but it is usually (except 2020 and 2021, due to COVID) 100,000.
