Well said.i'm the same as you.i was born in 1964.i will never get tired of listening to the Stranglers.i just hope they come back to Belfast one more time.the best band I have ever seen playing live.RIP Dave sadly missed but your music will live on forever.
Me also. About five or six week ago, I walked past a music instrument shop on Manchester Oxford Road. There was a Fender Telecaster in the window. I have been playing Stranglers videos on RUclips ever since. It is a pity that Hugh C. had a bust-up with the other members but, o. k., that's life.
Sad to report that the MAGNIFICENT Jet Black died on 6 December 2022 at the age of 84. God bless you, Jet. And THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC. One of the greats, a true drumming talent who never missed a beat. The Guildford Stranglers would never have formed without Jets ambition and the lure of his off-licence
He started quite late in his life, didn't he ? I mean I'm 55 and he was as old as my father 😙Indeed, thanks to him and his sense of humour and spirit. Wherever you are, Jet, we love you.
Ah Tank ! I remember playing this so loud in my bedroom once at the 2 minute mark where the bass kicks in, and the speaker vibrated off my shelf and hit me on the head. never been the same since! What a band...........
I literally just LOLed reading your post! Totally concur, the Stranglers were and still are one of my favourite bands. I have been fortunate enough to see them live a few times!
@@wildphil64 Well I hope you didn't lose to much blood down the sewer, when you rinsed your cut head. Go easy there friend Ho Ho! I tend to crank up Death and Night and Blood a lot these days too, but I keep away from loose furniture......
RIP Dave Greenfield what a loss your sound was so unmistakeable. Curfew Stay in Your Homes! Wow sent a chill up my spine. What a bummer 2020 is turning out to be.
The go-to song for covid that one. I even had a policeman at the shops tell me it was curfew and we got voice alerts over all mobiles to be off the streets by nightfall. Scarey
When the band were asked to perform two tracks on revolver at the time of b & w, they couldn't have chosen two better tracks than tank & curfew. Ace - and so are the audience.
The Stranglers Black and White is in my opinion the greatest album ever made. A collection of songs that exudes bleak war torn imagery and references the cold war to great effect. (U2 and Joy Division went on to create dark music with war torn overtones but the Stranglers did it first on Black and White). The production sought to capture death and destruction with a stark sneer of cold command and entrenched paranoia that existed in the late 1970's. A true masterpiece - never bettered.
I love "Tank". I play it on my birthday -- every year. I used to own "Black and White" on grey vinyl. We had to sell it -- got a pretty penny for it -- to pay a medical bill. There are no good healthcare benefits in the USA. Richest country in the history of world can't look after its wounded soldiers properly, let alone ordinary folks.
One of the best bands ever to have graced god's universe, let alone earth. Rest in peace Lord David of Greenfield. These men in black will forever remain heroes,, each and every one of them. No matter what their differences over the years, they crafted rare majick when they graced the stage with live performances, witnessed by myself and many others over the years. Thank you all, and my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
I can't help but feel that Curfew has become a prophetic song for 2020. Who would have thought. Thank you again the men in black. Still majorly in my life and music collection after more than forty years.
You are spot on here, couldn't agree more. Early Stranglers proved to have prophetic power in more than one case. Concerning "Curfew" don't forget that on the very same album you can find the song "Threatened" which include the chilling line "man killed by sanity". Truly prophetic
this band was very important in my understanding of how to write a piece for more than one instrument. their characters were all so obvious and evident...not to mention that their music was honey to my teenaged ears.
reminds me too of that milestone weekend when I got Black and White with my weekend job money and put in on the turntable at home and was just amazed at this incredible sound. Wow !!! And I still love the way death and night and blood starts, out of the previous track ... just fantastic.

Saw them for (only) the fifth and sadly final time Feb 2020 thankfully C-19 was a Chinese thing at the time and let's face it with either Hugh or Baz they are hands down the best live band ever and this is the fucking best. Saw them first in Adelaide Feb 1979 and Hugh was wearing the same coat, sad those days are gone. Perhaps when the curfew is lifted we'll get to see Baz and JJ unplugged doing the sweeter Stranglers songs. Keep well fellow Strangler fans. I remember watching this at the time it was broadcast , and thinking to my self what an awesome live performance . Saw The Stranglers years ago in Battersea Park. They played tank and a freaking tank appeared behind the crowd, firing blanks but at the back of the stage they had 'flash bangs' and put them into buckets. The back of the stage caught alight, just seemed so apt at the time. Fire extinguished and the show went on. Great gig and day out, Peter Gabriel was singing too.
Wow brings back memories.I was 14 at that time. Revolver was a great series. Stranglers sound just as fantastic now as they did then. A truly impressive band.
