Exploring Washington D.C. :: Donut Tour, Spy Museum, White House, Omni Shoreham & MORE!

- My first day in DC starts with a tour of the hotel I'll be calling "home" for the next several day, the Omni Shoreham. This historic hotel has hosted the Beatles, many presidential inaugurations, and so much more! We then head out on the Underground Donut Tour which was SO much fun! It was more than just great donuts as the tour included lots of historical facts as well. Then we spent some time at the National Art Galley where we got to see Monet, Van Gogh and MANY other famous artists. We then headed down the National Mall over to the Spy Museum... WOW! This museum was SO much fun and so insightful, and honestly... a little terrifying. I'm definitely more paranoid since visiting. Ha!
This was a full first day, but it was so fun and memorable. I'm thankful we had this free time in D.C. before starting work for the week!

Don't forget the Air and Space Museum. Plan for at least four hours, I spent my time googling the Space Shuttle and trying to read all the tiles lol
Definitely didn't have time for that on this trip, but we will be back for sure!

DC is great. Must-see Lincoln memorial, Folger museum, Supreme Court, National Cathedral. Buses and train so easy to take you anywhere.
We went to the Lincoln memorial one evening and it was amazing! I have a LOOOONG list of things to do when Sherri and I visit :)
And a lot of the museums are free!! At least the Smithsonian’s!!
Yup! What a wonderful thing that is. A few of them are paid, like the Spy museum, but we thought it was absolutely worth it.

It is not fun day, but I cannot recommend the holocaust museum in DC highly enough, among my friends, we found it more impactful than museums in Israel, Berlin, and Dachau. It is presented so well, but you will need to plan in an uplifting activity afterwards.
Glad you enjoyed your time, the Smithsonian Museums are one of our nations treasures along with the national parks- the two things I always list when someone asks me about the US.
Please be safe… DC’s crime rate has increased quite a bit these days.
