@@keyliegoodwin4170 Interesting fact if you didn't already know, but George Washington never actually lived in the White House. It was being designed/built during his presidency and during most of John Adam's presidency. Adams only lived there during the last year of his term. Even then, it was unfinished but habitable.
I’ve visited the White House 8 times. Every time was more interesting than the last. Always wanted to visit when the Christmas decorations were up, but never had the chance. During the holidays, the mansion is open for tours in the evening between Christmas and New Years. I’m sure it must look magical at night.
People dont realise moist of the Whitehouse is only 70 years old - few parts are the original ... considering the fire of 1812 and the main renovation in the late 40s early 50s authorised by Harry Truman who spent less time in the Whitehouse during his presidency. Indeed Truman was an exceptional President.
The neo-classical design you see in the Entrance Hall, Cross Hall, State Dining Room, and East Room date from Theodore Roosevelt's 1902 renovation. During the Truman renovation, all the historic interiors on the state floor (moldings, paneling, fireplace surrounds, etc.) were carefully dismantled, stored, and then reassembled in the rebuilt White House. The only thing that couldn't be saved were the plaster ceilings.
I worked at the Truman library for two years. He had to do the renovation because a piano fell through the floor. He redid it with iron so it won’t ever fall down again
I know that Jackie Kennedy hired a famous interior design firm from NYC when she redecorated the White House in the early 1960s. Little has changed over the past 60 years. As a side note, I live in Missouri. In the late 1960s one of Missouri's first ladies hired the same interior design firm from NYC to redecorate the Missouri Governor's Mansion. It's like a mini-White House today and open for public tours too.

I've toured the White House three times and on my last tour in September 2024, I tried to take some photos in panoramic mode in the East Room and got warned by one of the Secret Service to stop so kudos to you for getting away with making a video of tour.
I did the 'tourist tour'- in 1995 when I took a month's leave from the British Air Force and toured the US via Greyhound. Clinton was POTUS then. I have been fascinated with modern US history all my adult life and I now live in South Carolina and became a naturaized citizen in 2018. The tour was enjoyable, however, it's the West Wing that I would really love to see......but today, unless you are connected to some influence or have family who work there, it is almost imposible for an ordianary citizen to see that! 🇺🇸🇬🇧
We were there in 2012 but at that time we weren't allowed to take pictures, how cool that you were there at 'just the right time' to be able to see Marine One & the President boarding. To get to see the movie theater was a treat too, those doors were closed when we were there so we only saw them in pictures & video.
I remember back in the late 70's trying to take a picture of a chandelier in the East Room with a Polaroid camera, and a security guard confiscated the photo as it came out of the camera. 😅
They do, all Western democracies but especially the USA and UK are required to allow citizens access to governmental building they own such as the UK Parliament or the Capitol Building. I would love to visit the USA and one day tour the White House and Congress, Though I live in Sussex on the south coast of England about 45 miles from London's center, I have yet to tour Parliament, there is a nice small garden attached to the side of it overlooking the Thames
I saw the White House back in 88. I was stationed in Aberdeen for training, later was sent to Germany. I always wanted to see Washington DC and on the weekend I went there. I got dressed up in my uniform because someone told me, you it can be beneficial to be in uniform where you don't have to wait in line there. They'll just move you to the front. It was true, I went to the Whtie House and I got an imediate acess to the tour. All I had to do was show my ID. I saw the Senate and House and I was moved to the front of the line. Same goes for Ford's theater. I didn't have to wait I was moved to the head of the list. I heard securtiy has changed a lot since then. I was able to stay at the hotel for service people. It was about one fourth the price for what one had to pay for a normal hotel. Even got to eat in the mess hall there for regular army. The food was extra good. When I had to go to Germany there was a mix up on my plane ticket and I had to actually go to the Pentagon to correct it. I saluted a Colonel there and he told me, saluting is not required there. And I went to an office. A woman who knew the ins and outs of everything got me a ticket with no problem. She told me she had been working there since Roosevelt was President. I talked with one soldier in Germany who worked in the White House and I asked him if is true about a certain President who womanizied. He said there was no end to it.
Chad Smith I did but obviously not on the video and it’s not connected with the public tours at all. You’ll have a great time when you see it, a lot of history and it’s really fun to be in such a historic building.

Ahhh... the before times... can't get in now unfortunately. My wife and I wanted to do a tour last year but was told that they "stopped all tours since the pandemic and for the foreseeable future." When we were there in 2022 the place looked like a military camp with temporary walls and structures reminiscent of the military camps I stayed in during my time in Iraq.
The Rose Garden is on the other side, bordering the West Wing and Oval Office. When presidents hold outdoor news conferences/statements, it's in the Rose Garden. As correctly stated by gavinrobb85, what's shown in the video is the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, aka the East Garden.
6:51 that is the East Garden. 9:25 the Vermeil Room does not display silver, but vermeil, which is the French term for gold-plated silver. Hence the shiny gold color of all the objects on display.
Amy Appleton Hi Amy. Good question. A lot of people were asking me as I exited the White House. You need to email your local Congress person. They will set it up for you. I would suggest doing it several months ahead of time.
FYI, the security officers (CIA department) in white shirts inside the white house are currently as of 2023 paid sixty thousand dollars a year at the entry level and with experience (working years there) can make up to 80 thousand or more a year. The top security (CIA inspector) makes over 160 thousand a year. Security is always rotated to different posts as a security measure unless the president or the first lady specifically ask to have a certain security person at a specific post at a specific shift because at the end of the day, the president is the boss of anyone that works in the White House until their last day in office.
It’s a rewarding job. And on top of that I think they need to have a professional degree. Jeez, you would think they would pay them a good salary, but they don’t do it for the money I would imagine. It’s not THAT bad but they should pay more.
@@DrGariS Getting paid 80 to 100 grand a year within a few years of experience for just standing around and being more of a tour guide is a lot of money. Yes, we do honor their service. But, come on. They are not doing rocket science work. The CIA department that does have higher levels where they get paid up to 160 grand a year is more equivalent to higher pay and they do get a higher pay. But, the guards standing around the white house get paid well for what they do. The ones who should get paid more so they can survive and not end up homeless are the lower middle class and the poor. But, thanks to bought off politicians, the national minimum wage and state minimum salaries never keep up with soaring rents, food and other cost of living expenses.
Subsequent first families found Jackie's decor style and taste too French despite it being so elegant and exquisite. The round tables in the state dining room which she introduced which also gave it a more personal and informal feel have been replaced by the straight long rectangle table and Rene Verdon, the French Chef she hired had a nervous breakdown when LBJ wanted Ribs served at state dinners!@@DrGariS

To get to see the movie theater was a treat too, those doors were closed when we were there so we only saw them in pictures & video.
It was super cool but unfortunately it was the traitor who was going in the helicopter so that wasn’t cool.
I made the tour in 1985. No cellphones back then. Cameras weren't allowed inside.
I remember back in the late 70's trying to take a picture of a chandelier in the East Room with a Polaroid camera, and a security guard confiscated the photo as it came out of the camera. 😅
It's just so great that ordinary people are allowed into the citadel of world power. I wish other nations too respected their citizens as much.
This wasn’t about Trump at all. I definitely am FAR from a Trump supporter
Yes right was thinking the same
They do, all Western democracies but especially the USA and UK are required to allow citizens access to governmental building they own such as the UK Parliament or the Capitol Building. I would love to visit the USA and one day tour the White House and Congress, Though I live in Sussex on the south coast of England about 45 miles from London's center, I have yet to tour Parliament, there is a nice small garden attached to the side of it overlooking the Thames
@@shawntipton7398 No. Downing St is not open and Buckingham Palace is open for 2/3 months per year
@@DrGariS EEEE that's a shame
Wow interesting story for sure. We were lucky to eat at the Senate Dining room at the Capitol
Was wondering how you got the chance to film inside the tour? Awesome Video
Secret service allowed me to
How did you get to video? When we were there at the end fo 2019, there was no video allowed, only still pictures
The Secret Service was behind me and one of them said for me to go ahead and do it discreetly so I followed his directions.
Do you get to see any of the west wing on the tour?
Chad Smith Definitely not on video
@@DrGariS Oh, but you do get to see it at least? Sweet!
Thanks for the great vid btw. I think I'll get to see it next month. Very excited!
Chad Smith I did but obviously not on the video and it’s not connected with the public tours at all. You’ll have a great time when you see it, a lot of history and it’s really fun to be in such a historic building.
I enjoyed your video. I have been to the White House a couple of times. I live near Washington, DC and drive around that area often. I continue to get caught up in the rich history of Washington, DC in general, and certainly the White House in particular. Thank you for sharing your video. -JM!
Thanks so much for the amazing comment. I’m so humbled by it and I was so amateur back then. My newer material is so much more professional. :)
I have lived just over the river in Fairfax county, VA for 40+ years and I STILL haven't done the White House tour!!
You should go - it’s fascinating
THANK YOU FOR THE TOUR SINCE I CAN NO LONGER WALK I WILL NEVER HAVE TGE OPPORTUNITY WITHOUT A MIRACLE

Really nice tour. Thank you.
It’s my pleasure! I’m glad you enjoyed it
Ahhh... the before times... can't get in now unfortunately. My wife and I wanted to do a tour last year but was told that they "stopped all tours since the pandemic and for the foreseeable future." When we were there in 2022 the place looked like a military camp with temporary walls and structures reminiscent of the military camps I stayed in during my time in Iraq.
Wow, didn’t know the tour was that drastically different. Interesting and thanks for the comment.

We are going to miss him when Pork Fritter comes back.
Very Nice video 💐👍
You’re so nice - thank you
Did you get permission to record inside? When we went there a few weeks ago there was no video recording allowed the second we enter the White House.
Yes, I was lucky enough to be told by somebody in the service at the White House. It was very nice of them.
How can the President live in peace with people touring the White House everyday?
@@lbabytutorials4852agree. Reason why I think those tours should be cancelled.
That's the rose garden one of the first lady's had it made and it became tradition every since.
The Jacqueline Kennedy Garden. Dedicated to her by Lady Bird Johnson. 😀
Thank you so much for that wonderful compliment - so happy you enjoyed!
Thanks !
Welcome!
What is amazing is ,All of the windows of the white house is not bullet proof 😮 😮😮??? You would expect, safety for the President of the USA !😂❤❤❤
I think they are bulket proof actually
when are we as Americans just going to take a breather and find all that is best with EVERY President? come on guys we all love our country
YES!
That isn’t even remotely possible with a corrupt hair sniffer like joey marbles.
Amen!!
6:51 that is the East Garden.
9:25 the Vermeil Room does not display silver, but vermeil, which is the French term for gold-plated silver. Hence the shiny gold color of all the objects on display.
Wow amazing info!
do you have to apply somewhere to be able to tour the White House I’m from the uk and me and my family would love to visit !
Amy Appleton Hi Amy. Good question. A lot of people were asking me as I exited the White House. You need to email your local Congress person. They will set it up for you. I would suggest doing it several months ahead of time.

That garden area behind the East Wing is called the Kennedy Garden
Thanks for the information. How wonderful
I've toured the White House twice and it was awesome.
It’s a very special and historical space!
nobody shown this inside view except u love you bro for showing our dream ❤
Hey that’s such a nice comment - I really appreciate it so much
FYI,
the security officers (CIA department) in white shirts inside the white house are currently as of 2023 paid sixty thousand dollars a year at the entry level and with experience (working years there) can make up to 80 thousand or more a year.
With the exception of the Diplomatic Reception Room wallpaper, not much remains of Jacqueline Kennedy's restoration and decor.
I know - so sad really
Subsequent first families found Jackie's decor style and taste too French despite it being so elegant and exquisite. The round tables in the state dining room which she introduced which also gave it a more personal and informal feel have been replaced by the straight long rectangle table and Rene Verdon, the French Chef she hired had a nervous breakdown when LBJ wanted Ribs served at state dinners!@@DrGariS
@@mja72so interesting. Then who knew from 2016-2020 we would have the trashiest and disrespectful people in there (to the office of the presidency). What a world!

It’s a really great goal
Those houses outside the outside is it part of the presidential residence or someone else is living there?
Those are offices
It’s a lovely mansion. But looks quite small compared to other head of state mansions. Only been outside it as couldn’t get in since I am from the uk. Would love to get inside one day. As a history buff I am well versed in its history and the Kennedy renovation.
You can get in even if you’re from the UK! Sounds like your travel agent just didn’t know that.

@@DrGariS are there? Do tell? 😀
I think that is the idea. Modesty is a virtue in a Republic. To have something ridiculous like Buckingham Palace for our president would have been an abomination to us. They deserve this only because we respect the OFFICE, but never the person.
That's the Jacuqueline Kennedy Garden in the East wing.
Gone now. It was redesigned under the Trumps term.

It looks you had a great time. I am surprised you were able to just linger around outside. Did you have a press pass or something?
Are you talking about Zachary Taylor? I was just in the last group and they were great with me. I had a private meeting with WH staff beforehand and they knew I was ok!
@@DrGariS Is that Taylor above the door? I can't match that painting, and the pics of Taylor either have him way older or younger, and I have awful facial recognition skills.
