Donald Trump has many expensive homes and New York penthouses, but the most famous of his properties is Mar-a-Lago, the exclusive waterfront private club in Palm Beach, Florida. Estimated to be worth as much as $300 million, Trump bought the resort for an amazing deal after its original owner, Marjorie Merriweather Post, gave it to the government. With tons of gold accents and rooms built to resemble European palaces, the mansion and its sprawling estate are filled with expensive antiques and furniture, like a 1927 Steinway baby grand piano worth as much as $150,000. Trump has also made many extravagant renovations to the property, including a $7 million grand ballroom with gold leaf decorations, which is where he married Melania Trump.
Of course a club this exclusive charges huge fees for membership. We're talking a $200,000 initiation fee plus yearly dues of $14,000. But this price gives guests access to all the property’s many amenities, including spas, a beach club, and tennis courts. The Secret Service has also been charged up to $650 a night when they stay there, and these costs are expected to go up after some Secret Service agents move into the mansion once Trump leaves office. Mar-a-Lago also has a lot of secrets, like a library full of rare, first editions books. Here’s a look at the property which cost more than $120 million to build, and the renovations Donald Trump has added to the club to make it fit for a king.

Been there. I met President Trump at a private event. I paid nothing, I was invited. The opulence is absolutely unbelievable. Walking in, I felt totally out of place, like I shouldn't be there. It definitely feels like a royal castle.

This is a work of art. The castle at San Simeon? My parents toured and couldn't believe how gaudy and fugly it was. Hearst had little idea how to decorate a house.

Being a Florida resident for most of my life I’m well informed on the builder and the life of Ms Post who located the property and oversaw the planning of this masterpiece ………… I was very grateful to Donald Trump when he purchased the home in 1985 because I was really concerned what would happen to the property and the estate after it set for ten years unoccupied and I knew he had the funds and ability to save this piece of Florida history ………….

When I was 16 I was living in palm beach and me and 3 friends went to see the property at 1 o'clock in the morning because my girlfriend at the time wanted to see Trump's house and when we got there we noticed the front gate was open just enough to peak thru so we parked and walked up to the gate and peaked thru. Needless to say 30 seconds later we were surrounded by no lie, 10 sherriff's. We told them we just wanted to see how big his mansion was and they were cool let us go. Let me tell u the front lawn was as big as at least 3 football fields and he has his own observatory in a tower that extends over the tallest point of the mansion roof top! Absolutely gorgeous!

Trump did not get it for $5 million because of the real estate market going down. He got it by buying the property located on the beach in front of the maralago property and threatened to build a wall blocking the beach view which would DEvalue the maralago property. When his original 20 million dollar offer was denied, that’s when he went and bought those properties to build the wall blocking the view. When they found out he was going to build the wall, that’s when they took $5 million. Those properties on the beach are in Donald Junior‘s name, they also have houses on them. After they got maralago, they bought all the houses in the area on the beach so nobody could do the same thing to them. I’ve been there a few times to maralago

Mary Post has a beautiful home and gardens in DC with beautiful art. It is a museum you can visit. She lived there in Spring and Fall. During tour you hear she was a very decent down to earth person. She lived in Florida in winter.

I love that he bought the castle at a great price and decorated it impeccably. M.M. Post had great taste. (I already knew that Trump Towers in New York and Mar-a-Lago were intricate and elaborate). It's also smart for having a country club and golf course. Not sure if he wants the FBI to stay at his place after his home was raided for classified documents. Why would Melania want to leave Florida for the White House. She probably felt like she was slumming it. He got an awesome bargain. It reminds me of the Hurst Castle in California some respects. I'd love to tour it. He got it for a hell of a deal and it seems to continue to pay for itself, this is an example of a home being a true asset.
It's not a home. It's a National Historic Landmark. After conducting a legal review of the issue in March, 2021, Palm Beach town attorney John C. Randolph determined that Trump would be allowed to live at the club under the town's zoning code as long as he's considered an employee of the business, which Trump's attorneys argued he is.
