The truth is that, like with the first season's finale, it was shot ambiguously so that they could go forward whoever they finalized a deal with.... But who David Paulsen (the showrunner) wanted was Diahann Carroll to return as Dominique. He felt strongly about the way she was wasted on the show previously and thought there was so much potential lost in that.
That was brilliant; I still wish they’d finished the show properly as season 9 was better than declining ratings suggested. I refuse to acknowledge the reunion! 😊
I just started watching season 1 with my mother. We used to watch it together in the ‘80s. We tried getting into the reboot on Netflix, but it was awful so we stopped watching after the 2nd episode. We wish we could stream Knots Landing. We’re happy that we’ve found Dynasty (original and one and only), Dallas, Falcon Crest, and an Australian Soap Opera, Return to Eden. All these bring back great memories.
Oh, there was one bit left out of the other wedding cliffhanger and that was Dominique, the grand diva exclaiming "... won't it just knock their socks off to learn that I'm a Carrington too...!" Haha!
I think Alexis made him more excited when she started to slap him and tell him that she needed him to get revenge on Black which cause him to have an even worse heart attack, haha. Colby went out in a blaze of happiness.
I remember being a kid and saddened while watching the season 4 finale. When my older sister told me that, Pamela Sue Martin wasn't coming back, I was devastated.

Season seven with the return of Matthew Blaisdale (Bo Hopkins, respectively) wasn't too bad an idea, but that bringing people back from the dead is SO obvious. Plus, there was NO mention of Lindsay and/or especially, Claudia. Bad form on their part.
Seasons 3, 4, and 2 should be a lot higher than they are. Forty years and a thousand viewings later, Pamela Sue Martin's panicked "Daddy!!!!" at the end of Season 2 and her scream to end Season 4 still give me chills. And the cliffhanger in Season 3 was just so well done by Evans and Collins that it's the best, in my anything-but-humble opinion.
Pamela Sue Martin was a pro! Her Fallon was believable as that bored rich girl who was too smart, too pretty to just settle for being rich and pretty. And yeah, her cliffhangers were epic!

As someone who watched the original "Dynasty," this primetime soap opera, the actors, the costumes, the acting, all of it and more, is why I could not even begin to watch the rebooted "Dynasty." I have no doubt it was good, but this "Dynasty" was in a class by itself.
I watched the reboot hoping maybe there would be some original cast members making guest appearances but nada. Nicolette Sheridan was pretty good as Alexis but when she left her replacement was pretty lame. Making Sammy Jo character a guy just didn't work and there ended up being three different actresses playing Krystle lol. Surprised it lasted as long as it did. I bailed after the third season.

I like how alexis has an outfit for everything...such as an outfit to start a fire in a cabin to kill her nemesis, so she wears a brown fringed tailored pantsuit, if she has to shoot crystol in a field then she wears a ballgown..i imagine her wesring white to an occasion that she is drug through mud but her white fur coat manages to be clean.

Dynasty deserved a proper end season. The reunion mini series was useless and didn't explain what happened after the balcony collapse. It's only mentioned it happened at the mansion when it was in the hotel. They really do think people have short memories
Season 2 season finale should have been ranked higher. That was the first episode, I believe, to reach #1 in the weekly ratings. Dallas the #1 show at the time had already aired its season finale that season a few weeks earlier.

Fallon and Krystina are who you're thinking of. It was the Season 9 cliffhanger / series finale - and to me was the most tense, best acted & directed scene of that finale. It wasn't included in the montage here.

Upon entering the exclusive restaurant, Dame Collins was extremely disappointed that the Christmas decorations were purple, causing traumatic shock with her outfit and decorations. Dame Collins then asked for the air conditioning to be turned on because she complained that the restaurant was too hot and made her feel a little tense and uncomfortable. On leaving the restaurant, the manager was kind enough to present Dame Collins with a large bouquet of autumn flowers, a very expensive bottle of champagne and a duckling lantern to hold the candles in the lampshades. Before eating, Dame Collins called for silence in the restaurant so that everyone could bow their heads and hearts in prayer to thank God for the food they would consume. After finishing the thanksgiving prayers, the guests began to eat politely.
A stand in was used for Joan Collins as she wasn't available for the series one cliffhanger. You can tell it's not Joan just by the way she walks. Nobody slinks quite like Joan.

Stunningly fun show to watch. Absolutely loved every scene with Alexis and Krystal together such venom there! Loved the season 5 cliffhanger but with nobody looking particularly in shambles and no one of any substance was a real dud! I didn’t particularly like all the time they were held hostage by those wanabe German soldiers! Last but not least that whole Krystal look a like story was completely stupid! I did absolutely love all those night time soaps though! I can’t believe the Simpsons can stay on for forty years and these fun shows are gone! Oh well I miss that magical time!!

The original idea season 8 cliffhanger for Jeff ans Fallon, was for Jeff to return to the bedroom and find Pamela Sue Martin there. It was only and idea. They never asked her. For season 5, there were no Moldavians. Blake was supposed to kick Krystle out of the mansion for having an affiar and throw divorce papers in her face. Blake originally was supposed to have an affair too. For season 6, Claudia was suppsed to get rich and leave Denever behind instead of going crazy. For season 7 had two diferenr original cliffhangers. One where Amanda, Blake and Krystle are gunned down in a limo while going to testify against the eason's mafia villains. Second, Adam and Dana were supposed to get married in the mountains and the avalanche would destory the hotel with everyone in it.
@@supersoaps What they're saying about the season 8 finale is fiction that often comes from the anti-Emma Samms brigade. They claim the same thing about The Colbys finale... that the aliens were to return her as Pamela Sue Martin, also not true. (Fact is, Martin had made it clear that she was done with Dynasty - that what it turned into after Joan Collins arrived wasn't what she signed up for.) When this scene was shot, the show was still under the Shapiros and from them there was less-than-zero chance they'd ask Martin back. They loved Emma Samms, Spelling loved her, her co-stars adored working with her - and the audience had largely embraced her because (1) Samms was such a likeable pro and (2) Fallon was alive. But the way Fallon was written on The Colbys - and the overall writing on both shows - was often ridiculous in the recent seasons, and fans let it be known. Between here and Season 9, Spelling removed the Shapiros from their show-running duties and replaced them with David Paulsen, previously of Knot's Landing. Paulsen took a holistic approach to the entire show and made changes (great ones, much needed!) that you could probably do an entire video about. One was to Fallon - as he described it, he wanted to know where she went: was she being re-written for Samms because she couldn't pull off her core traits? He called Samms in to meet with her, and said he was pleasantly surprised to find things in her real personality that were a lot like Fallon as he understood her - feisty, charming, witty, funny, unpredictable. He asked her directly about the character's depiction, and she said she was portraying exactly what the previous writers and directors were instructing. This sounded consistent with much of what he'd already heard about the show's past few seasons. So in season 9, he zoned in on the finer details of Fallon's character (really all the characters) to ensure those traits were on the page in every script. And Samms delivered it big time. She wasn't cloning Martin, but she was serving her version that was authentically Fallon Carrington. And it was fun to watch - still is.

A stand in was used for Joan Collins as she wasn't available for the series one cliffhanger. You can tell it's not Joan just by the way she walks. Nobody slinks quite like Joan.
I guess that was why the hat had a veil to hide her face and not for style.

@@Tagg63 I've read several different versions of why a stand in was used. I tried to pick the most neutral wording I could.
One if the things I heard was that the stand in was supposed to look like Sophia Loren as they wanted her for the part

Stunningly fun show to watch. Absolutely loved every scene with Alexis and Krystal together such venom there! Loved the season 5 cliffhanger but with nobody looking particularly in shambles and no one of any substance was a real dud! I didn’t particularly like all the time they were held hostage by those wanabe German soldiers! Last but not least that whole Krystal look a like story was completely stupid! I did absolutely love all those night time soaps though! I can’t believe the Simpsons can stay on for forty years and these fun shows are gone! Oh well I miss that magical time!!
Especially when nobody of any substance was seriously hurt in the season 5 finale of the Moldavian massacre!

The original idea season 8 cliffhanger for Jeff ans Fallon, was for Jeff to return to the bedroom and find Pamela Sue Martin there. It was only and idea. They never asked her.
For season 5, there were no Moldavians. Blake was supposed to kick Krystle out of the mansion for having an affiar and throw divorce papers in her face. Blake originally was supposed to have an affair too.
For season 6, Claudia was suppsed to get rich and leave Denever behind instead of going crazy.
For season 7 had two diferenr original cliffhangers. One where Amanda, Blake and Krystle are gunned down in a limo while going to testify against the eason's mafia villains.
Second, Adam and Dana were supposed to get married in the mountains and the avalanche would destory the hotel with everyone in it.

@@supersoaps What they're saying about the season 8 finale is fiction that often comes from the anti-Emma Samms brigade. They claim the same thing about The Colbys finale... that the aliens were to return her as Pamela Sue Martin, also not true. (Fact is, Martin had made it clear that she was done with Dynasty - that what it turned into after Joan Collins arrived wasn't what she signed up for.)
When this scene was shot, the show was still under the Shapiros and from them there was less-than-zero chance they'd ask Martin back. They loved Emma Samms, Spelling loved her, her co-stars adored working with her - and the audience had largely embraced her because (1) Samms was such a likeable pro and (2) Fallon was alive.
But the way Fallon was written on The Colbys - and the overall writing on both shows - was often ridiculous in the recent seasons, and fans let it be known. Between here and Season 9, Spelling removed the Shapiros from their show-running duties and replaced them with David Paulsen, previously of Knot's Landing.
Paulsen took a holistic approach to the entire show and made changes (great ones, much needed!) that you could probably do an entire video about. One was to Fallon - as he described it, he wanted to know where she went: was she being re-written for Samms because she couldn't pull off her core traits?
He called Samms in to meet with her, and said he was pleasantly surprised to find things in her real personality that were a lot like Fallon as he understood her - feisty, charming, witty, funny, unpredictable. He asked her directly about the character's depiction, and she said she was portraying exactly what the previous writers and directors were instructing. This sounded consistent with much of what he'd already heard about the show's past few seasons.
So in season 9, he zoned in on the finer details of Fallon's character (really all the characters) to ensure those traits were on the page in every script. And Samms delivered it big time. She wasn't cloning Martin, but she was serving her version that was authentically Fallon Carrington. And it was fun to watch - still is.
After season 4 dynasty went downhill.

(From an 'artistic' perspective) I concur. However, as an objective matter, season 5 would turn out to be the HIGHEST-RATED season of the series.
