my first rock concert (in the mid 1970s, early teens) was rush opening for kiss in san antonio texas. I hitch hiked the 40 miles to the show and caught a ride back after. no one booed the opening act that night, though many a fan was born. went here to see kiss, and was so blown away by rush I hardly even remember the kiss show..... more great memories from my early rock journey.....
Total garbage. I know people who were there. This never happened. He has also changed his story considerably over the years. He used to say he flipped off the crowd. Then it changed it he mooned them. Now this. It’s garbage.
Sammy was out of Montrose during the Van Halen tour. He quit a couple years before. Some advertisements at the time promoted "Montrose" and some promoted "Ronnie Montrose." He actually performed instrumental because he didn't have a singer at the time.
Sammy was on the first Montrose album(1973) and the second one Paper Money( 1974) Sammy left and Montrose did two more albums with a different lead singer named Bob James. Then Ronnie did his all instrumental album Open Fire in 1978 and toured with Journey. Van Halen opened those shows. Van Halen, then Ronnie, then Journey.
Ha ha ha! So funny! I never saw a KISS opener get booed off stage, and I think crowds today are much nicer. Then again, the openers I saw were usually really good, and somewhat known. Whether it was Slaughter, Danger Danger, Ted Nugent, or Skid Row, the openers were well-received.
0:22 "Had left the band a couple of years earlier", Sammy got kicked to the curb by Ronnie Montrose due to Ronnie changing the direction of his music, His band. Sammy wanted to continue as a hard rock outfit but Ronnie was headed in a more progressive direction, so it was a 'creative differences' split.
No. Sammy told Ronnie that he was leaving the band after a tour in England. Sammy's bass player is a friend and lives about a mile from me. But he actually was kicked out by Ronnie after the first album.
A half a million bucks for a 61 Stratocaster? Yeah he's a little bit of out-of-touch obviously he obviously hasn't had to buy his own guitars for a very long time.
@@RockNewsDesk I guarantee you that if Sammy Hagar auctioned off a 61 Stratocaster that he had been playing all these years, that damn thing would be worth pretty close to half a mill. If not, at the very least a quarter mill. Easily. It would be purchased by a collector or a museum or something like that. It wouldn’t be purchased for the purpose of playing it. It’s not the hardware. It’s the mystique behind it. It would be the history. Especially if, instead of destroying it, he had played on it through his Van Halen years on all those millions and millions of records sold.
@@Hun_Uinaq I agree. I'm not a collector, but I could see one going for a couple hundred thousand bucks if it has belonged to Sammy all those years. But, just a 61 strat wouldn't sell for that.

Get all in his feelings. He’d need a hanky. … and a hug. Back then, though? Hell yeah! We would be deliciously scandalized by it. Horrified, to be sure. Very bad. Bad Sammy! Naughty, naughty boy! But, oh, the conversations it would spark in people! The disbelieving tones of voices we would have. We just couldn’t believe it. But, it’s what we expected out of our Rockstars. And, if we didn’t get it, we would wonder what was wrong with them. “ you mean they booed him and he just took it lying down?“ lastly, you can bet your ass a lot of us would’ve been in attendance at the next concert in case he did it again. I seen Kiss in 1979. They were wild😱And if course i was on the floor. I always got there early. When the crowd would pour in i would get slowly shifted to front center. That was how i done all my concerts.
Per hostile crowds...it's in really bad taste to boo or heckle an opener when they are tight, and fit the genre of the headliner. Even if they've a little different. The headliners usually pick the opening bands so it's disrespectful to them as well. I saw Hagar open for ZZ TOP on the Eliminator tour and he came close to owning ZZ TOP. If the band that opens has no business being on a bill and has nothing in common with the headliner I get it. A Band like The Cure opening for a band like Maiden? Yeah they're going to get pelted with everything the audience can get their hands on. That's kind of expected. Those are the situations when you can blame the promoter or whoever the out of touch idiot who booked that band to open.
