yeah, Sammy did say how he did get bagged a few times for going way over the speed limit. and he also got the idea to write the song from not being able to go 55. lol
Fun fact: this song was inspired by true life event's. After getting pulled over for speeding, the highway patrolman told Sammy that the speed limit was 55 miles an hour. As the officer wen't to his vehicle to retrieve something Sammy thought to himself, "I can't drive 55." He knew in an instant that he had the germ of a new song. The cop came back to Hagar's vehicle and gave him the speeding ticket. Sammy thanked the officer as the whole thing had inspired one of his biggest hits.
Sammy should have sent the cop a copy of his royalty check from the song and video and said "thanks for writing me that ticket. This is more money than you make in a year, isn't it."

@sha broussard Are you basing that on raw numbers or per capita? There's a ton more white people in America so of course the numbers are going to be higher overall. You have to look at percentages.
it's still 55 mph on I-10 somewhere in Texas, despite that same interstate having an 80 mph speed limit, in Beaumont, it's 55 for a one mile stretch going east on I-10 as you turn right and US 69 leaves the interstate/ or going west on I-10 as US 69 joins the interstate.
in the late 80's, I-20 was 55 mph for a mile and a quarter stretch in Longview, I-80 in the Quad Cities area was 55 mph from I-280 to the Illinois state line at the Mississippi River crossing, (now it's 65 east of I-280/70 west of I-280), and until 2015, the Tri State Tollway I-94 was 55 mph all the way until just 3 miles south of the Wisconsin state line, only 3 mi. of I-94 was 65 mph. Now most of the Tri-State is posted over 55. I-94 is 70 mph north of IL-132 near Six Flags Great America, 65 mph in most of Lake County, I-294 is 60 mph north of I-90 and south of I-55 until I-57.
If you have not checked out Sammy and the Circle please do so.. As a life long fan, I believe it is some of his best work! Love seeing Sammy still rocking!
Around 1985-1986 someone defaced a 55 MPH speed limit sign exactly like the one at the end of the video. It was on the Garden State parkway in NJ around mile marker 135 +/- 5 or so. It took them a year to replace it. Not too long after, the 55 MPH limit law was revoked nationwide. Good Job Sammy!
I preferred Roth fronting, but you really can’t argue with the success that “Van Hagar” had. Was also cool when Hagar and Eddie were both on guitar rocking out. It’s too bad Sammy and Eddie quit working together, they had a good thing going.

Classic. I always wished I could go to that museum
@Valentin Vasil Stelmakh Danchak Watch where you're going you crazy, drunk, pedestrian!

EAT LEAD, SLACKERS!!!
I love that movie, even though this did not make me think of Back to the Future II.
This video is pure fun. Gold from the great 80s. And what a badass song
My first concert. The VOA TOUR in Minnesota! So called "co-headlining" with Krokus! I don't think so...Mr. Hagar was and is always the headliner! Still killing it to this day and sounding great.
Wow what inspiration for a most world changing song. Just memorable, timeless, unforgettable, and unfortunately, unforgivable.
When this song comes on in the car it will almost guarantee me a speeding ticket every time
I find listening to talk radio, classical, or easy listening makes me drive much slower (ie speed limit-ish). This is like cocaine in a car.
1:35 REVOKED
lol 💯💯💯💯 so true 👍
Next time tell the cop it wasn’t your fault because you were listening to this song. Maybe he’ll laugh and you’ll get a warning.
True. I found this out one day on the way to work. That's also the day I found out that 2008 v6 Dodge Dakotas are faster than I thought.
I drove cars, trucks and motorcycles back then. 55 was frustrating as hell. I got a lot of tickets back then, too. You had to be there. lol!
That 55 mph gov’t imposed BS - Was the beginning of government overreach......😖😡🤬. NOW look at what they’re doing =😷
73 years old this year still looks great, rock &'rolling Sammy!!!!!!
Just saw him in concert for the first time 2 weeks ago. 74 years old and still up stage slashing and killing it. Glad my dad raised me on this music and i was able to see this show with him! 🤘🏼
I am sixty eight,still rocking
73 and not woke, not living in the past, and carved his path forward, and he thrived! Lesson? - stop whining and get moving! Nobody owes anybody anything!
The red rocker!
Long live Sammy Hagar! He makes the 80's feel good, which the 80's were!😂
Great times then ; these times are fkd!!
An all time great driving song. Makes you roll down the windows and just let it ride because you know it's a song just about anybody wouldn't mind listening to regardless of their preference of music; then, when others do hear it, they start bangin' their heads, give ya a smile, and are ready to hit the gas waiting for that light to just...turn...green. 😎
Truck drivers driving through California think about this every day!
A stealth Radar detector, Waze, and highway radar app.
Was behind a big rig doing at least 80 on open road.
@@tmross4 nothing wrong about that ? Cant find the issue, or the truck driver.
We were going 60 in a 55 mph zone - and he was soon out of sight!
@@tmross4 good for him , no harm done as long as he keeps away from the next car and those passing next to him
PA Turnpike......17 years old. State Trooper clocked me at 117 in a 65......with this song blaring on the radio. Trooper pulled me out of the car, cuffed me, slapped me around a bit till I was good and scared, and LET ME GO.
you got off easy!! nowadays, geeez, what they would do to you now,it's safer to be a pinata!!
@@rearspeaker6364 They’d just arrest him. he’d go to court and definitely get a HUGE fine and jail time. Add lawyer fees to that... It could be upwards of a 30k thrill.
They took my 151 first
Sounds like a good time to me
Riding on the turnpike right now... What part was this on? 😂
Back in the late 90s, this was #1 on MTV's Most Law-Breaking videos. Apparently, 20 laws were broken in the video alone. But I can't remember them all when watching.
I got a speeding ticket to this when I was a Kid. Just makes you want to drive fast for some reason..
Highway to Hell does too
Last time i got a warning was to this @ 118 in a 45
Got a warning @ 118 in a 45 zone. With this as loud as the speakers could handle.
Got a warning for 90 in a 60... while listening to Danger Zone.
This song travels thru time and still burns the road..Sammy is still cranking awesome tunes
One of the coolest rock videos ever.
Heck yeah this song makes you feel good and it rocks to.
Omg, I'm walking around Hill Valley Courthouse Square but it's all different now. The courthouse has been turned into a hotel and man, this isn't the 1985 I remember!
Nowadays in So California it's I can't drive 95. We drive 55 in residential areas.
Hams Allspice that's why Texas 80
Hams Allspice you will drive 40 over a 45 speed limit and there will be always someone tailgating you wanting you to go faster in Texas.
Ziggy Rocka Arizona, too! Sometimes 85. I'm sure the same can be said about TX.
Hams Allspice
BigSkippy1263 yes! I45 from Dallas to Houston is 75, I'm usually doing 85 or 90 and it's like I'm crawling like a snail with the way everyone else is passing by lol
2019. Whose still loving and rockin this with the awesome old school power of MTV 😎🎵⭐️🌟🎼🎶❤️✨🎧🎤💕
GOD BLESS!
Remember when MTV actually played MUSIC??!!!
Damn, I'm old! 😂😂😂😂
My mom was pulled over in virginia for speeding while this song was on he radio.. I laughed hysterically for an hour or more at the irony of it all.
This song sounds fit to me, I turned 55 now... thanks Sammy for the spirit through out the years..
Hagar said that at one point in his life he was paying $125,000 in car insurance because of 36 speeding tickets and multiple suspensions of license.
125k per year or per month? I'm sure he had a bunch of sports cars so I can definitely believe that.
Go Sammy wish I had his cars and money ! Can not drive 55 !!!!!!!
I can believe.. he drives a LaFerrari now.
@Jem Harper yeeeeaah but it aint the same
lmfao. Well....sure it wasn't much. x'D !
This song still kicks ass!! 👍🏻🤘🏻
Agreed
One of those songs that is truly timeless; will always kick ass.
This song should come on every radio station every Friday at 5 pm . To help you get home in a good mood . PARTY ON SAMMY .
3 LOCK BOX ALSO ROCKS MY RADIO .
Yessaahh.
3 Lock Box is sick a great tune!
Lolol, 😂 lotsa tickets too!
Lololol 😂 lotsa tickets too 🎶🎶!
I remember taking an interest in cars at a young age and my dad showed me this video because of the Ferarri. To this day it still sounds like the first time hearing it and I cant help but drop a gear if I hear it in the car.
🏎💨 🚓 🚓 🚓
I just discovered that this song was written a couple hours from my hometown, based on a local experience traveling from Albany NY to Lake Placid! I grew up listening to this and never had a clue it had a connection that's so close to home, pretty neat! 🤓
Don't you just love how Sammy Hagar bares his teeth all throughout the video?
Lol, sure do, haha! :-D
***** No wonder his pearly whites are so white! Lol.
Just Got Medical/Dental
He does have great teeth..😂
I remember when this video first came out....damn, I'm getting old
YNK.
I'm getting old, too.
Same
Same here
Well, it was 1984.
Just ate at Sammy’s in the Maui OGG airport. Never heard of Sammy before that. Sammy has a bunch of restaurants and he shares his proceeds with the staff , he helps the local communities and provides resources to people in need. My server for the day Marlho told me of Sammy's generosity! She did a great job. She was fast, polite, professional and accurate. Whenever I come back to Maui OGG Im eating at Sammy’s!!!
You in Hawaii 😂 🐂 BULL
I'll be LONG dead before this song is!!! Sammy Hagar still rocks the planet!!! Saw him at 'Texas Jam' with Triumph, Ted Nugent, Uriah Heap, Styx... When Sammy hit the stage and blew up the Trans Am to make his entrance... AWESOME!!! Unsurpassed by any other!!!
Must have been a hell of a show! Miss those days of arena shows!
I love Sammy Hagar!! One of the worlds greatest singers and musicians period!!
.... "one of ..." ...agree
Steve Perry best vocalist to ever walk this planet. Period.
This song really takes me back. Just wait till it hits 88 Mph
THEN you're going to see some serious ****.
I never realized how incredibly awesome this video is
The good old days when rock was rock!

DJ Granny Trump is the Establishment....He's always been a part of the Establishment, he might be President, but the real decisions will be made by Pence and his Republican benefactors... in Trumps own words...Trump will be Russia and Pence's PUPPET, HE'S A PUPPET FOLKS...his campaign biggest points are financially and physically impossible, you got Fooled by a snake oil salesman
+Jonathan Parker lol you're a conspiracy theorist
Still one of the most fun rock songs ever made.
❤😊💙♠️🐺
2019 speed
I’m too young to have seen actual music videos played on MTV, but, if this video was any indication, it was probably epic.
Well Mr Ford man.. You need to get a hot badass PONTIAC and see what driving in the 1960s and 1970s was really about.. A GTO, a 1962 Catalina 2 + 2, a 1966 Bonneville, a 1974 TRANS AM with the 455 SD Super Duty or Tri-Power 421 HO Grand Prix lol PONTIAC FOREVER !!
This song is the main reason they increase the speed limit to 70 mph.
Sara Winters and now with safer modern day cars 70MPH has become outdated ... they need to make a new song I CANT DRIVE 70
Wrong
@@mikew3494 true actually.
I bet.
Autobahn laughing in German.
I remember hearing rumors of Sammy joining Van Halen in 1985 and I thought....Van Halen + Sammy Hagar?? I loved the Idea and so began 10 of the best years of my life music wise followed them from the beginning till the end.
11/24/24. I am the big 55 today.
Every time I get on the highway, I always turn this song on in my car and blast the radio singing along with Sammy. NO one is going to tell me to drive 55 because I can't do it either. When I saw Sammy in 2017, I video recorded this song and sang along with every word!
I miss the 80s. 😔
Eddie Van Halen's death brought me here.
Im so so sorry... 80's the best time ever
Sorry about what???
Eddie Van Halen's life brought me here .
Back to the Future 2 " alternate 1985"
Out Of Many, Of Sammys Songs. Stepping Back In Time, This One Is Another One Of His Best Songs.
bought this on day one on cassette tape.. lol we used to take my 72 chevelle SS to K Mart parking lot and do dounuts with that song Cranked thru 4 6x9s ...lol
ahh the memories thank u Sammy.🌠
Sammy is the man . One of the greatest vocals in rock history
You ever grab a cop like that today you'll be singing " I wont live past....55"
Try that if your Mexican they'll hang you
@sha broussard Are you basing that on raw numbers or per capita? There's a ton more white people in America so of course the numbers are going to be higher overall. You have to look at percentages.
imagine trying to have a civil rights argument in the comment section of a shitty sammy haggar video
it's still 55 mph on I-10 somewhere in Texas, despite that same interstate having an 80 mph speed limit, in Beaumont, it's 55 for a one mile stretch going east on I-10 as you turn right and US 69 leaves the interstate/ or going west on I-10 as US 69 joins the interstate.
in the late 80's, I-20 was 55 mph for a mile and a quarter stretch in Longview, I-80 in the Quad Cities area was 55 mph from I-280 to the Illinois state line at the Mississippi River crossing, (now it's 65 east of I-280/70 west of I-280), and until 2015, the Tri State Tollway I-94 was 55 mph all the way until just 3 miles south of the Wisconsin state line, only 3 mi. of I-94 was 65 mph. Now most of the Tri-State is posted over 55. I-94 is 70 mph north of IL-132 near Six Flags Great America, 65 mph in most of Lake County, I-294 is 60 mph north of I-90 and south of I-55 until I-57.
I'm a driving instructor who does virtual classes. This is one of the tunes I open my class with whilst doing attendance.
Wow you are so clever..
A retired mailman I work with sometimes does the same thing but he uses John Denver B-).
I remember this being one of the first videos I saw when we finally got mtv on super basic cable at home.
The more I watch this, the more I love it.
Still loving this in 2020 with the awesome, jammin’ old school music power of MTV
If you have not checked out Sammy and the Circle please do so.. As a life long fan, I believe it is some of his best work! Love seeing Sammy still rocking!
Just did. Awesome!
"Welcome to the Biff Tannen museum!"
Glad I'm not alone.
But honestly, I did think Bumblebee first.
Yes!
Lmmfao!!! That’s it!!! 🤣🤣
Get the fuck outta here😂😂😂 everytime i hear this song thats what i hear in my head😂
Fuck censorship! 2800 thumbs down got their asses thrown in the "city joint."
Sammy hagar + van halen = the best rock band ever formed!
I honestly like van Halen better with David Lee Roth
I preferred Roth fronting, but you really can’t argue with the success that “Van Hagar” had. Was also cool when Hagar and Eddie were both on guitar rocking out. It’s too bad Sammy and Eddie quit working together, they had a good thing going.
Nope. That would be Rush. Best band to ever walk this planet. Period.
Sammy is the greatest front man in MUSIC history!!!!
Without a doubt!
Fkn awesome. Sammy is the man!
