  • We were asked to make a surprise 50th birthday present - a Lurk. A Lurk is a long single pole traditionally used by telemarkers instead of 2 ski poles. They either have rounded ends or a spike at one end and, ideally, have a 'hidden' hip flask. For ease of transport, it will often be able to unscrew or separate in the middle.
There are not many videos on RUclips covering Lurks, but one excellent video is: King of the Lurk 2021 by ‪@marshellthompson‬

The Lurk we make in our video is more for display and fun days out rather than the amazing skiing shown by Marshell, however I did put consideration into strength and weight requirements ...and we have a happy customer!
This was a fun and unique project to complete.

Well, that was an interesting project Bruce and it turned out very nicely. A nice mix of Telemark tradition and Scottish design. The hidden flask was a nice touch, which I'm sure will be appreciated on a cold winter's day giving a wee nip of aquavit or maybe a dram. Thanks for the video.

Thank you! Our gift to compliment this was a bottle of “Glenmorangie made for mixing” and a bottle of Drambuie …to make the famous “Rusty Nail” …a fine hip flask tradition!

Thank you. I used two coats of Osmo hard wax oil and then two coats of Renaissance microcrystalline wax.
