    Cool to see my old G3 Tonic skis again . I donated them to Dostie a few years ago. I have the G3 leash, mini carabiner shown here on my Outlaws.

    I use ski leashes, but I have never released from a tele binding in 24 years of fast, aggressive skiing. I’ve crashed a bunch, but somehow never lost a ski! Of course I’ve now jinxed myself!

    I have two pairs of blue birds regular length. Their simple well made and very durable! Made in USA! Just buy them.

    I gave up on leashes. Broken, buckles and leashes from multiple manufacturers. I use a 1ft cam strap laced through the heel throw. Handles air time better.

    Nice review. 60 y.o.here and have been alpine skiing since I was 5 and exclusively dropping knees for the last 20 years. I hate leashes and use brakes whenever I can. When I can’t ( like when I have to give up brakes to put on ski crampons) I found my favourite leashes are the Dynafit which seem very similiar to G3.

    I use snowboard leashes attached to my Axl tail throw. Similar to the Plum leashes but attaches at the heel. Very convenient on & off. You can unclip around the leg or off the boot, whichever you find easier. Cheap & easy to find/replace.

    One thing worth mentioning, is leashes can be dangerous if you get stuck, say upside down in a tree well, and you need to remove the skis to get out. It can be very difficult to reach and disengage the leash. I haven't had a ski release since Riva 2's. I will use leashes for packed conditions at resorts, though. Also, you can buy clips at a hardware store and use thin (high quality) rope to attach at about 1/5th the price of those leashes.

    Would be really interested in some technical performance design discussion on:
    - Camber vs. Full banana rocker vs. Hybrid rocker-camber-rocker vs. Nordic rocker, AND
    - how the ski shape can affect desired ski lengths, AND
    - how it all comes together for genuflecting to the mountain Gods

    Hi! cool series! hey Dostie, can you talk about what makes a good/bad telemark ski in your opinion? camber, rocker, soft tail, hard tail, construction...
    Thanks

    Great video!! I love the gear talk! I’d love to see one about different climbing skins and what you prefer and why! I see so many different kinds of skins do you have a preference?

    I have the Dynafit leash, my only complaint is that it isn't transferrable. I had to put another clip on the other end so I could use it with multiple pairs of bindings. I like the idea of the plum leash because it has multiple uses. I will look into that.

    just installed the meidjo brakes. concerned i'll be catching them on my turns but will test at the resort to see if I need to throw them away.

    I find that theres several flaws with safety straps being sold.
    1st they're too short. If you're standing in deep snow. Ok this maybe hard to explain but, the strap being so short you are not able to stand on that foot due to soft snow and the ski anchoring on the surface. The longer length that I use avoids that.
    2nd If or when you do come out you rip the bucket off your boot or do other damage. also a problem in deep snow.
    3rd If you up on a steep slope you can clip the strap while standing and then safely click in without the possibility of loosing a ski. I can't seem to attach pix so. I used a Dakine snow board leash $5 and a little cable loop on the binding.
    Loop and tuck the extra webbing under a bucket so it pulls out if you do come out.
    4th I've skied 58 year grew up with leashing on skis. we use long leash in the old days because you don't want that ski to be part of your fall. I've NEVER EVER heard of some one being hit in the head by there leashed ski, but binding hurt like hell when yo fall on they. long leashes get the ski farther from you and is around way better.

      Like the sound of your version of a ski leash and agree on a long leash, that's why the Plum leash is my current fave. I have been clobbered, but since it's just a box of rocks up there, no biggee.

    What to attach it on to the boot side? Nothing obvious an easy on a Crispi boot..

    I stopped using leashes on my 75mm a few years ago. Am I a bad person? I started for safety in relation to backcountry but gradually continued in the resort etc. Sure I fall over but I rarely lose a ski.
    Some Lifty at Targhee threatened me with patrol if I didn’t put some on.

      Like you, I'm in 75, and since I fitted a G3 Enzo, and then the 22 design Axl, I ended up removing the leash, because I never lost the binding again, as was the case with the Riva, then the Black Diamond...

      It looks like this is the only version made: www.fixation-plum.com/en/accessoires-ski/3120-leash-plum.html
      Recommendations: Circle around your leg and attach the snap hook on the leash.

    I had the Meijdo 2.1 and also experienced the problem with the squeaky break. However, Meidjo claims that this is solved with 3.0 and after touring with it several times this winter I have not heard any squeaking, so this is no longer a problem imho. Also, I have never experienced the brakes getting caught w Meijdo. So perhaps give the brakes with 3.0 another shot? I really dislike the idea of being stuck to my skis in an avalanche...

    • @FreeheelLife
      @FreeheelLife  3 года назад +1

      I'm with you on skis in an avalanche, like being tied to an anchor after slipping off a boat. Sigh, well, I guess I need to give the new brakes a whirl. Your endorsement needs verification and it's sort of my job, right?

    • @telepowpow4929
      @telepowpow4929 Год назад

      Leash hater here too for obvious reasons - anchor, whirlybird, bending over, and the fiddling trying to attached or release it as your alpine friends wait patiently for you. Got the meijdo 3 this year and yeah those brakes like to catch too so my alpine friends will continue to wait.

    With a little para cord or webbing, a few clips from the hardware store and a little ingenuity, you can customize a leash for yourself for a couple of bucks instead of paying $25 for the latest, greatest name brand leash. K.I.S.S.....it is just something to attach your ski to your boot...not brain surgery!

  • @ernreeders1487

    Yeah, nah. I'm not a fan of getting tangled up on a slope after ejecting. My solution is Telebry Safeouts that give me DIN release and brakes.
    I've never snagged the brakes.
