    I love the philosophy, the heart and soul of tele, the excitement of experimenting with new ideas and learning. It comes through so clearly in these videos. Please keep ‘em coming.

    Pretty interesting progression there Dostie, will be following to see where you go with the F1's. I love my TX boots but want to max out their life, so now I'm skiing TX Pro fairly often for lift-served and Defenders (F3) for mellow TTS tours and saving TX for my best days. For the stuff I do the F3 is a better starting point for mods. Its pretty similar to the old red T2X minus the duck bill. I ski in walk mode so don't need the power strap or the lock mech. And I cut off the goofy part of the cuff that doesn't close all the way at the top.

    "...because you like to telemark, right?" Yep, but if you're here then you knew that already. Now that I spend nearly all my time lift-assist and not earning my turns, I'm still pretty happy with my T2s.

    At 4:31 you talk about difficulty accessing the buckle on the Voile Strap with the boots on, but I had an idea.
    You have the buckle off to the side, on the outside of the boot, which is typically where you put the buckle on a ski boot. How*ever*... If you orient the strap so that the buckle is on the inside of the boot, so you can grab hold of the end of the strap and really give it a good yank, perhaps you will find it easier to tighten it? Will it matter where the buckle is for the 'feel' of the boot?
    Maybe you could ask Voile to make a wider version of their strap! Like double the width. Would they do that? Imagine the possibilities...
    I'm going to steal your Voile Strap idea for my old Crispi CXA boots. They really need a power strap of some kind, high up on the boot. I love Voile Straps. They're as thoroughly wonderful as Gorilla Tape.

    So what you are saying is put a carbon fiber cuff on a Pbax sole with tech inserts front and back and a duck butt will be best Tele boot up. Add a compliant cuff lock and wham perfect plastic Tele boot up and down?

      (Except for the tech insert in the heel) Yep, and a 2-buckle boa type closure.

      Warning. There is a big difference between Dosties F1 and a F1 Race. His is closer to an F3. The Race is far more flexible, especially as it has no tongue.

      Weight is never great, correct stiffness and flex is.

    Excellent review of the F1 Franken boots- been waiting for this. A few questions: snow quality on Monarch Pass on the day you tested them? I mean, that looks like the perfect set-up for hero snow. Seems like you’d only wish for more stiffness in the crust or firm/variable conditions.
    Also- did the TX Pros/Comps seriously gain over a pound-per-boot vs. the old TX?? My TX Pros (sz 29.5) weigh a whopping 9lbs 4oz for the pair. For comparison, my kid’s Atomic Backlands in the same size are 6 lbs 0 oz, and return the same level of performance/confidence. That 1.8 lbs per-boot makes a huge difference on long tours (not to mention the greater range of motion of the AT boots).
    Lastly, how was the flex on the F1s? I’m reading on various forums it’s not as natural at the tele-specific offerings from Scarpa. Could the difference in flex be contributing to the lack of perceived performance on the downhill? Could you adapt and improve with more days in the skintrack?

    why do you ski in walk mode? i've been doing that for years b/c it's more comfortable and haven't noticed any drawbacks.

      Answering for Dostie since he's not available. He doesn't like a stiff cuff with the forward lean, so he opts for skiing in walk-mode. Hope that helps. - Madsen

    I weighed my leather Alico Doubles while listening to the video. They weigh 48.6 ounces or in metric 1379 grams for each foot. I thought they were heavier than the plastic boots.

      They are heavier than plastic when soaking wet after a long day in sloppy snow, even when treated with waterproofing. But yeah, not much progression over the last 40 years when it comes to tele boot weight eh?
