  • Happy World Telemark Day! Knee droppers rejoice: the new TTS Transit Telemark Binding is coming. Here are the highlights:
    • Option to feel like a traditional 75mm binding.
    • Three activity positions can be entirely changed on the fly.
    • Heel assembly can be removed and stowed to save weight on approach.
    Also prevents snow/ice buildup!
    264 grams per heel assembly (half the binding weight).
    • Heel lever is more secure than ever. It cams further, and has curves that hug the boot’s contours.
    • 2.43 lbs per pair (total weight with heel assembly, risers, and all hardware included).

    Maybe you've already done so, but any thought on partnering with Scarpa to bring back the Defender? Surely they didn't dispose of the molds for those boots, which would be prefect for this binding at nearly a pound lighter than TX-Pros.

    This is quite similar to your three pin and cable (both spring cables or hard wire cables) in concept and functionality. For my 75 mm leather boots, and my T3and T4's, the three pin cable set up does exactly what this new binding does for the new NTN boots.
    Neat. I really like my three pin/spring cable bindings on my UltraVector skis.

    This is an awesome setup but I think the only boots that will work with it are the Scarpa and Crispi NTNs. They're great boots for sure but a bit heavy for real touring.

    Might be the cheapest way to buy a Plum toe piece!
    ps, I liked the idea of the first iteration, made it different from other TTS out there

  • @WildMidwest1
    @WildMidwest1 Год назад +6

    The amount of innovation going on in tele bindings is phenomenal. I love the simplicity of this design using time-tested parts.
    The problem is Scarpa’s NTN boot monopoly and their reluctance to keep up with AT. Very sore subject.
    Questions: Could I reasonably get tech toe inserts installed in my almost-new Crispi 75 mm tele boots to work with this TTS binding? How reliable are aftermarket tech inserts, and who does installation in the Western US?
    Thanks for a great video.

    • @voilemfg
      @voilemfg  Год назад

      Howdy, David! Since we aren't a boot manufacturer, this isn't something we can speak to or recommend doing. We manufactured the TTS Transit for NTN boots that include tech-toe inserts. Hope that helps.

  • @wojtekrogowski6982
    @wojtekrogowski6982 Год назад

    Very well thought design and looks like interesting alernative for other NTN bindings, especially for backountry! How is the downhill skiing feel - closer to 75 mm or NTN?

    • @voilemfg
      @voilemfg  Год назад

      Howdy! With the three activity positions, you can dial it in to match your downhill preferences. We've found that the neutral (most forward) position gets you closer to that 75mm feel. The active (most rearward) position will give you more of a classic NTN feel. If you feel like you want something in-between, you can go with the moderate (middle) position.

    Will these have different stiffness of cartridges for those folks who like a more aggressive engagement?

    • @voilemfg
      @voilemfg  Год назад +1

      Initially, there will be short and long-travel cartridge options for the TTS Transit.
      The short-travel "tour" cartridge is the same stiffness as the "tour" cartridge on our original TTS binding. The stiffness of the long-travel cartridge will sit in between the feel of the "stiff" and "tour" cartridge options we have for the original TTS.
      Hope that helps!

    • @kasper5297

      Thats actually a pair of scarpa tx. Its like a t2 for ntn. Scarpa don’t produce them anymore, so its a bit hard to find them nowdays.

  • @metg1991
    @metg1991 Год назад

    So is this the same as the previous moonlight binding that you had something to do with but you are now selling it instead of them ? or does it have advantages beyond that one

    • @voilemfg
      @voilemfg  Год назад +2

      We stood on the shoulders of Moonlight to design the TTS Transit. We want to give credit where it's due! That aside, we've made some critical improvements to the design to make the Transit a compelling option.
      The crampon slot design from Plum allows you to attach crampons directly behind the toe piece. With the crampon slot occupying that space, the activity positions have been slightly pushed back, which gives a marginally more active feel. The crampon straddles the binding, so you don't have to remove the rods while in use.
      We also updated the hooks on the rods so they stay locked in place and don't come out as easily as the prior version, and we increased the stiffness on the long-travel cartridge that we provided for Moonlight in the past. Above all else, the Transit will be available for purchase in the Fall of 2023, and we're invested in continued Telemark binding development!

    • @scottbalsai

      I use the Voile Hyperglide skins and their rubber/plastic clip and straps work really well with the no notch tails of Voile skis. But my G3 skin clips do not work very well without a notch in the tail.

    • @ericsteig5296
      @ericsteig5296 Год назад

      @@scottbalsai I have the Hyperglides too. They are ok, but when they dont' work, they don't work. I don't understand this --- having the skin tail come off is a major pain if it happens when e.g. you have a heavy pack on and don't want to have to stop and bend down, or when you on a steep slope and doing a kick turn, or when conditions are wet, etc. etc. There's simply no reason not to do this -- it will be an investment by Voile as perhaps they'd have some machinary to modify (?) of course, but surely it will pay off in the long run.

    • @scottbalsai

      @@ericsteig5296 yes, I agree with you.. it’s such a small suggestion but would greatly make things easier for the user.
      But my Voile skin clips work great always. Maybe you need to adjust them a little tighter. But I agree why should one have to use only Voile skins for their skis. I even suggested that on my review of their Ultravector BC skis. Check out my review on their website under the Blue Green Ultravector BC.
