"It's a Supra twin turbo with mods" he says. I say "Can I drive it?" He says "Yeah". I took it out on the highway and everytime I stepped on it, it was like the earth moved under thewheels. He said it was probably 450 h.p. Amazing G's and amazing sound.
With that much horsepower its amazing the supra only spun out for a couple seconds, that's just an indicator of how well the rear end and suspension were built. As apposed to the viper that cant hold a candle next to a VW Jetta on an actual racing circuit. The viper's torque works against it rather than with it. Supra's are definitly a modern day classic.
also, the mk4 runs the 1/4 in 13 seconds. stock. strip it, add $5k to a single turbo and fuel upgrades(you don't have to go inside and upgrade until well over 500hp) and that little 3liter I6 is pushing 10's. lets how your LS2 handles 20 psi on stock internals...
exactly, run what you have. my 7M was 230hp stock. pushing just over 400 now, turbos capable of closer to 500 but with a stock bottom end, flywheel, and drive shaft, i haven't pushed it. so for something like $3000, that little motor really wakes up and almost doubles its power. what i mean by "expected to win" is that most of these guys that i run into driving domestics look at me like im crazy to even try and run with them.
TT Supras are the only cool import cars out there. I'm an American muscle car fan myself, however I HAVE to give the Supra ultimate respect. Those cars are f#cking sick. Too bad they don't make 'em anymore...

I just finished building me a 98 supra single turbo and dyno'd it at 847 whp and 723 ftlb and believe me, it does not need nitrous, this is on stock internals.

It doesn't make me wonder. Horsepower in relation to 1/4 mile times is not a linear function, it is exponential. In english, it only takes a 300 horsepower supra to run 13's. However, it takes over 700 horses to run 10's. Horsepower in this example is more than doubled, but that doesn't mean the car will run half the time in the quarter mile.
in the end, thats all that matters. If everyone bought cars just for being the fastest out there, we would all be driving some twin turbo V8 go-kart. as long as its fast, thats all that matters cause theres always someone faster out there.

No, there are taxes in other parts of the world based on engine displacement and gas mileage. Turbo motors generally get FAR better mileage (and emissions) than a NA motor that makes comparable power. When you pay $8/gal for gas, it gets really expensive to own something like an LS7 vette that gets around 15mpg in the city streets.
Actually Supra's are in the Luxury genre of cars to begin with. but when people started makin the ole 2JZ a monstar. they reput it in the Sport's genre. was originally made a luxury car though :)

I believe the Veyron actually costs 5 mil to build but they are selling them for 1 mil.... So in all actuallity you could build a few cars of your choice with insane mods and still have some money left over. As far as who could afford one there are quite a few ppl who could afford one. If you think a supra is an ugly car you might need glasses. Take the wing off and they're beautiful. You can still get supra's for 25g or so, not too bad considering all the potential you have at your fingers.
good question. i think part of it is the sense of accomplishment that you get when you take a little motor that isn't really made for racing and build it to run with the big boys. that's what does it for me anyways. i love it when some rich kid in a stock or mildly modded gt mustang or z28 revs on me in my sleeper mk3 supra and i proceed to hand him his ass. something about seeing their face as boost hits. wouldn't be as fun as if i was driving a big block because then i'd be expected to win.
because they originally had a 286 hp gentleman's agreement. Therefore, their engines have always been low displacement. An inline 4/6 with a turbo slapped on is much lighter than a big v8
Also, There are so many other factors that give supras different 1/4 mile times like weight, low end torque, suspension, tires, Aerodynamics... LOL and the driver. So make sure you give recognition to all worthy calculations before jumping to false judgement.
apparently, my import magazine said 2JZ is the strongest engine in the world for modifying. RB26DETT came second and SR20DET came third, so u were right.

There's a book out called Super Cars which lets the top 20 or so top cars and the STi and EVO were both listed. Along with many others but no Nissans or Toyotas.

Deffinetly a twin turbo cause u hear the spooling and blow off valve...probably the DOHC that these things got stock, they are insanely fast.
