I like the fact that back in the days no matter how much we did not get along, there was no such thing as white singers or black singers, as long the song was a hit, radio played it and the fans of walks of life appreciated it, bring back those days, just be we can all find peace
You can hear the difference between this and the voice singing on the track. But listening to this it's clear that Nolan Thomas can sing well. I'm surprised they didn't just have him sing the track in the first place.
Kind of disagree. The person singing the track is in a studio. That is different than singing live. Im pretty sure the singer from the LP sounds much like Nolan singing this.
Omg. I was there. I cannot believe this is online! I wrote a fan letter to him after this show and he (or his people ,lol) wrote back. Amazing lol. Thanks for uploading this.
Holy shit! Not only have I never seen this clip before, but I was not aware that this song was ever performed live anywhere. Awesome! Furthermore, I read in recent years that Nolan Thomas appeared in the video and on the album cover but did not actually sing on this song. However, in this performance it does appear that Nolan Thomas is both performing on the stage and singing live! If the story about someone else having recorded the vocals for the record, it's interesting that he would choose to sing live to a song that he didn't actually record. He sounds pretty good, one way or another!
.....one of the FEW numbers that qualified as R & B in the Eighties that I actually LIKED; can COUNT them on JUST over ONE hand - VAST majority, was UNLISTENABLE.....
You must not mean R&B because that means all of Stevie Wonder, most of Prince, all of MJ, Anita Baker, New Edition, Patti LaBelle. If you do mean R&B (and not hip-hop) then you have no taste!
@@FranSanTeeth90: MOST (not all) of their output, was AWFUL; Stevie's 70's stuff puts his post-1982 'Decade Of Excess' offerings to SHAME - Anita & Patti are serviceable, Prince has a LOT of good material (CONCEDED; favorite: "Mountains") the GROSSLY-overrated Thriller has aged TERRIBLY (as I knew it WOULD; Bad, a BIT better) & New Edition are almost without exception, utterly ATROCIOUS.....sonically, just a BAD stretch for the genre; ONLY begins to revive with Roachford's 1988 debut.....

Khultan I think California is a lot more segregated than NY, both race and class-wise. Also New York has lots of puertoricans and dominicans who are kind of mix of both

Ah yes, the 80'es, famously completely free of racism.
Yeah right
Used to play this on KISS FM and WBLS in NYC back in the day
I still remember Red Alert cutting this joint up in his set like it was yesterday! Freakin 40 years ago…dayumm
Elan Lanier is the voice in the actual track, Nolan did the rest of the songs on his album
I'm skeptical.
True
It’s the hip hop beat for me ❤

To tell you the truth I don't hear much difference and they sound like the same person.
I don't actually detect any difference. Maybe the information we were given about him not singing on the record was simply B.S.
