  • The MTA is testing panels on the turnstiles to make jumping more difficult. The plan is to install the panels to 10 stations this year.

    Service is garbage. 4/5/6 trains are delayed every afternoon during rush hour. One day, I ended up having to walk home to 118th St from 85th because the next bus wasn’t coming for another 23 minutes. Oh and all of the trains were crawling through the Lex Ave tunnel at walking speed.
    The MTA is trash. Just throw it away and start over. They need a major restructuring/shake up and penalties for service failures/interruptions during rush hour.

      I agree. F, R, trains are the worst in the subway system. R and F should have been defunded. The most unclean trains are R , F, E... .Those trains are filled with homeless people and beggars and violent people.

    Ive lived in nyc all my life and pay when i can. Times have gotten harder and the sevice has gotten much worse. Its unsafe. Its dirty. Its overcrowded. It should be free. Period. 🤷🏿‍♂️ not sure why the city is allowing them to be privately owned. Then making cops hang out there like security guards. Only in the impoverished areas. Go to the areas where they have tourists and make 6 figures and live in luxury and the fare hopping isnt even looked at. The system is broken and shaming humans isnt the answer

    • @fallback8314
      @fallback8314 10 дней назад

      that's because in the luxury areas people actually PAY. what's so hard to understand??? smh....and asking someone to pay 2.90 isn't "shameful." nor is it unreasonable. and 90% of the people who don't pay HAVE money they have these expensive cell phones, these $100 sneakers, expensive headphones, the often come into the station looking for a free ride AFTER they've spent their ride money at Wendy's or McDonald's. and believe you me they STILL have cash in their pocket they just wanna cheap out NOW when they get to the subway. the system isn't and can't be free. it needs upgrades, enhancements, maintenance, the company also has to pay taxes, they have their own bills and creditors they need to pay, and people actually WORK for this company. a small fee goes a long way. i don't see you calling it "shameful" when people are paying at Target, Con Ed, and Stop and Shop, ExxonMobil, and Costco. why should the MTA be free when they're just as important a company as the others.

    Fare evasion is probably worse on the buses than the trains. Especially the kids, they just waltz right in without paying. They don’t even sneak in through the back exit like back in the day. They walk right through the front and don’t pay. I was on a Q60 bus a few months back, not too many people were on the bus. A group of at least teens entered for free through the front. The Buses are worse. maybe 10 years ago, a bus driver would confront a passenger for not paying. I had a bus driver in the Bronx once stop (along the route) in front a police precinct and told the fare -evader "get off the bus or I'm honking for the police." As a paying customer what rattles me even more is these unruly people not only evade but they'll be front and center to get on, blast music on their speakers etc.

    • @Awesome_Aasim
      @Awesome_Aasim 26 дней назад

      @@adamblack6867 That just isn't true. Yes New Yorkers are more impatient and are more aggressive drivers than people in California, for example. Many New Yorkers would happily pay the fare if the service was clean, safe, and convenient, like Japan's system is, and if the fare was reasonably priced. To be quite blunt as well, at the prices the MTA sets subway fares at, they might as well have a free public transit service covered by higher taxes, like they have in a few European cities.
      The faregates in Japan by the way from what I have seen do close hard if you do not pay your fare and it can be an embarrassment that one might want to avoid. A lot of Japanese cities such as Tokyo also have private companies pay for their employees' commuting trips which can allow public transit to be accessible to many while saving money for a lot of people. As we know with healthcare, anytime it feels like the actual customer isn't paying the business offering the service would be able to charge the company whatever for the month.

    I believe it was the strike of 2005, MTA strike for more money. To find out MTA had 2 sets of books. We were never reimbursed for the increase in tare and fares have been going up and service is lousy. MTA own people suppose to pay because MTA provides them with metrocard, but they don't. So they are rare beaters too!!!

    First of all, ask Jano Lieber or Hochul, if they travel to the outer boroughs and to see how long customers have to wait for trains when there is a "signal malfunction " or loss of power for like 40 or 30 minutes. There is a reason why people evade. They want to get to their destination on time. But the mta always delay service. Janno Lieber should be getting a fine for raising fares every other year.

They should really stop trying to act like fare evasion is the biggest problem in the subway system! Worry about people getting assaulted in the middle of the day on the platform or getting pushed onto the tracks! Or even problems with the metrocard machines. I put 50 bucks into a machine to put it on my MetroCard and nothing came out! I was told that the MetroCard could be replaced but not the cash that I put on the card! And from what I understand, that happens a lot. Consider all of that lost money that they get as payment towards people who have to turn style!!
