Great information. If I may add something for those with automatics like myself....In your expansion tank holder/bracket affixed to the radiator there is also a transmission thermostat located in one of the connection ports. This thermostat (from experience lol) if has some age, has plastic shell which WILL crumble when you try to remove it. Plan to replace it as well. Also to add on automatics included to the cooling system is the transmission cooler located bottom driver side of radiator under the same bracket housing mentioned. These connections associated with it are possible leak points as well. There are Orings which seal it to the bracket. Hint: you can follow your trans cooling lines to the front of the vehicle to located the cooler.

I have a dinan registered e46 .orient blue and tan.....I love the car....it's an automatic...I put an electric cooling fan in .it's a 315 I with dinan Shift and red limiter..it runs good and the dinan upgrades were done by previous owner so I called dinan and sure enough they were able to tell me all that was done to it and when...awesome .good show mate.friends asked me when I'm gonna go man use swamp.....never.I have a dinan 540 i 6 speed for that....e39/I couldn't afford anything newer and I just love the super salon ....but the w46 is a great car &ahead of its time no doubt.keep them if you own them....they are only gaining worth.New Bmw cars are horribly over priced and very cheap parts.......I'm looking at a 1984 635 csi..dream car.nice vid, like your style thx.

These m54 cars are fantastic. Unfortunately they get sold when the current owner has a holy shot what have I done to my beautiful car moment and frantically tries to get rid of it before it explodes.
    Good luck.

Great video, thank you. One question though, you said to flush out with water 3 times. Can I use regular water or should I flush with distilled?
You and the 50skid have the best E46 channels.

I’m about to get a perfect condition e46 325xi with 40k miles and one owner (my neighbor) for 5k. I hope most of these fixes are mostly for heavily used cars with lots of miles on them.

As stated in the video...18 year old plastic fittings with 49Kmiles are still 18 year old plastick fittings which are old and brittle.
Change them NOW and drive your car forever

How important is all this in other countries? I live in the UK and its like 10°C or lower most days, so not as hot as Australia.
