It's not illegal throughout the US either, but it can potentially be used as a defense argument if you're at fault and happens to be wearing flipflops. "Hey, my flipflop got stuck in the accelerator pedal, and I was wearing them just like I was supposed to pursuant to California's DMV instructional video. Blame the CA DMV."

You mean proceeding on green light before red light beaters are finished is wrong? No enforcers enforce traffic laws here. They have to be shown they're wrong.
