I love airbrushing, it's one of my favorite tools when painting. I'm not using it for everything I paint, but for some techniques it's just extremely valuable. So today I'm listing the 3... I mean 4 ways of using the Airbrush i like the most. Thanks Miniac ( / sdubist ) for guesting this video!

Always good to see my favorite midwestern minipainter. Yeehaw y’all!
Hey hey pals! Whoa that troll is looking spicy!!! Love dem elbows :-)
Thx my friend :D
Squidmar AND Miniac!?
I need to sit down.
😱
That moment when you first take the airbrush to the mini after doing the underpainting...wow! Time to get an airbrush :D
Go get one :D
Yeah, it can look pretty amazing. And if you're going for a tabletop standard, just adding a single highlight to each area/color will get you there. The airbrush really is a great time saving tool.
Haha, great vid Emil. Getting Scott in there was a hilarious contrast. Hope you guys do more of that. Also, those PS edits to help visually describe things are very helpful. Love that.
Thx so much Neil! I try my best :D
Nice, two of my main teachers for mini painting in one place
THIS is an absolute recommend video for intermediate painters who are looking to go beyond just priming and zenithal'ing with their airbrush
Super cool to see Miniac on your video! Great balance of science and artistry.
I'm loving the team up videos with Scott. Two of my favorite RUclipsrs in one place?! Yes please.
When the collab happens after the original video has already been edited
Not that I'm complaining or anything, but lately it seems like Miniac is in every video related to minis.
It's kinda awesome :)
I'm like a disease
@@Miniac I Hope it's not contagious ;)
But if I can be real for a sec, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you've done.
I used to paint mini's as a kid, and I was never able to get decent result, so I just got frustrated and dropped it since I just assumed I have no talent.
I'm now in my 30's, and after discovering your channel, I learned what I was doing wrong, I went back to painting, and now I'm painting around 2-3 models a week and the results are pretty decent (at least for my standards), and I'm loving every second of it.
So again, thank you so so much for helping me rediscover this hobby and actually enjoying it this time.
@@elirane85 ♥️♥️ you're very welcome!
@@Miniac man I cant wait to airbrush some green army men
So awesome to see the two guys I lean on the most to bring my mini painting knowledge back up to speed and try to improve it far beyond where I left off over 30 years ago. Great information in this video. I'm doing my research right now for the airbrush setup that I want to buy when I work my next shutdown. Thanks for the pro tips gentlemen!
Why do everytime you put out a video, it feels like you're my big brother teaching about something. I feel like a kid in awe in front of all the new technique and knowledge you have to offer ! Geat job oni-san !
This was the cutest comment all day! Thx for the love mate!
Somehow, seeing so many amazing painters out there mentioning spanish painters of such a high level makes me feel weirdly proud haha.
I got myself an airbrush on christmas, and I've been ready to use it for 2 months, but not finding the courage to do it, honestly... Yesterday tho, I tried to put some paint on some reaper goblins, and trying to be less scared, so this video comes at a perfect moment, honestly.
Thanks Emil for the great content, as always. Also... I need to see more of that airbrush and brushes reveal haha
The people of Spain have so much to be proud of.♥️
Racial pride is a good thing
I'm proud of all good painters, spanish people included :D
Try to check out my first airbrush video, its very good for the basics and getting started :D
@@SquidmarMiniatures totally! Me too! I only mention this because a year ago I didn't followed so many professional painters, but thanks to people like you that I did follow and their recommendations, I've started to know so many professional painters, and is weird to see how I knew mostly foreigner painters, and is thanks to them that I started discovering so many Spanish painters hahaha.
I've watched your first airbrush video a couple of times already trying to get the courage to go deeper with it, I really appreciate all the good work and content you put here, Emil ☺️☺️
I practiced on disposable spoons for a little bit, and then got myself used to minis by priming a ton of them. Maybe the spoons trick can save you some money and minis to help you get more comfortable?
I have tried to basecoat with a brush and I personally Think that doing all the first layer with the airbrush is much easier and faster and I have never had a problem with the layer being too thin. I learned that through Kenny Boucher from Next Level Painting.
Happy to see the rootinest tootinest mini painter in the west make a guest appearance.
Haha for sure :D
Heresy!!! one thick coat ,"your innocence proves nothing " lol.
Scott, that Midsommar roast, just beautiful.
One of my favorite miniature youtubers, thank you for all your knowledge.
You guys Rock. Thank you for the introduction to more complex airbrush topics and an extremely entertaining collaboration. :-)
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it :D
be a dream to hang out with Squidmar, Miniac and BMC for a day.
Have been waiting for this colab for a while! Hope to see more in the future!

Maaybe its something that i've been working on for a while to make it just the prefect way for me :D
Great collab, you guys both give a lot to the community with techniques that so many don't share. Keep doing what you're doing! 👍
It's so great having these collaborations. I'm just about to starr my painting journey and I'm super excited! Thank you for all these videos that make me pumped to paint!
Very cool video. I have a pretty decent selection of inks and one of my hobby goals for this year is to start using them a lot more, as well as using oil paints for more than just washes and weathering.
Every time "thick coats" were mentioned I sensed a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
I am so stoked for the squidmar airbrush duuuudee!!!
Can't argue with the results. Your mini turned out to be really gorgeous in the end. Thanks for everything! :D
Better opening line for me: "It's time to begin trying to have an airbrushing game."
We all gotta start somewhere :D i got a video for that too ;)
Great video! Thanks Emil (and Miniac!) your channel is such a great resource in helping to level up my hobbying game!
With all the miniature sculpting in ZBrush I do these days, I 've been wanting to start painting them and your vids are very motivating! Also, I love how in this one and others you show that you don't always need natural neutral colors to make things look real and natural. Well done!
First of all: I love that the two of you did a collab! My two favourite painting channels in one video? Hell yeah!
Also: I really need to buy and airbrush some day. It has really become an important part of miniature painting and I feel like I'm seriously missing out.
Great video, great Pig-Ogre-Thing, great production quality (as always)!
Its not needed, but its like when building a house. You can build most things with an hammer... but a nail gun sure will make it more fun and faster :)
Happy sculpting + Happy painting= Awesomeness! That's such an amazing paint Emil.
I had so much fun sculpting that model a few years ago, I'm so happy to see one of my first digital sculpts painted on your video! I'll give a shot to my airbrush again one of these days to try those tricks :)
Oh man, i've never seen anything you painted! Maybe you are like the god of painting minis!
I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS.
Haha, its finally here :D

Where do you get that Orc Bust you painted up!? I really want that bust!
I enjoy watching you and Miniac. I've been overwhelmed with painting my models lately, averaging 1 a week, but I just got an airbrush in today. I feel eager to see how it changes my approach and outcomes.
Great video as always Emil.I've ordered my first airbrush kit with help from the advice and links from your earlier video.Nice that I can give something back to your channel as it's helped me so much!SO excited to try out some of these methods.
Quick question,do I need to thin inks to use in the airbrush or are they thin enough already (vallejo inks)?
Dude! Yes!
Love the collaboration with Miniac, glad you guys are having so much fun :)
This was really helpful you two, I bought a airbrush a while ago and kinda of only use it for base coating and few other things but have not focused on a mini as of yet.
Time to go brave :D
@@SquidmarMiniatures you guys help a lot with these types of videos ^_^
Learned from this video not necessarily a techniques I had not heard of but different way to apply a couple techniques. Very helpful explanation on ways to use inks.
Thank you for a crystal clear description of how to do capibases. I've heard of this technique many times but it's been pretty impossible to find a clear and concise tutorial.
Such a helpful vid! I’d really love to hear more about your airbrush blending. I’m struggling with it and you make it look easy!
Yay an audible sponsored Video with an autible ad 😂
Awesome work and examples. Needed to try new things with the airbrush!

You are flying my man! Keep it up dude!
Two of my favorite painting channels spliced together??? Yes please!!

This video has invaluable knowledge! Thank you for sharing!
Thx as always Nicolas! :D
I haven't painted miniatures in years or plan to, but I love watching your videos
Scott's Starfleet CommBadge is made entirely out of victory. Made my day.
Great advice and a great vid ^^
I'm still in confusion and awe with which colours to have beneath the final layer. Like that goobertown video about a pink undercoat for his yellow troops!
This is good timing, we just got an airbrush setup using your amazon links for the last video. Thank you for putting UK links up and for this followup and awesome videos in general.
Thats awesome! Thanks for using my links :)
Hi there,
Really great video. Lots of precious advice, as usual I would say. I am following your channel for months now, watching each and every video... and you are probably the only one. You are really an example to me. I am about to quit my job and try to leave from our passion here in France. I have my blog for some months now, as soon as possible a youtube channel. So I really learn a lot from you, not only about painting, but about making amazing videos. Always such good quality in terms of sound, images, content...
One of my goals : to get to the point where we could do something together as you sometimes do with other painters (like in you Fiver video and other stuff).
Keep it going Emil (hope I write it well), you channel is definitely my favorite :-)
The more videos I watch about Airbrushing, the greater the feeling of impending doom for my bank balance.
My wife decided to get one for me as an early Christmas present as I have 2250 point of T’au to paint that I haven’t touched for a few months.
Once you get comfortable with the airbrush those techniques are super fun. It almost feels like cheating after blending/glazing by brush.
I totally agree, i feel a bit dirty ;)
Awesome teaching man i really understood what you were saying. Thank you for helping me have fun learning while im stuck at home.
Cheers!
Thx mate
Shout out to the two kings of RUclips Miniature painting, Mr Squid and Mr Miniac

I love all your videos but this one was awesome
Love the collab, Squadmire for 100k!!!!!!!!
Looks like a fun workflow, I'm going to try this out on a creature caster model I've had sitting around for months
Their huuuge minis would do great with these techniques! :)

Awesome tip to use inks to change the tone of the color mantaining the shades and the highlights. Thank you.
thx for the love mate:D
An epic collaboration! Might there be a Trapped Under Plastic appearance in the future?
That would be awesome! Pity they are on the other side of the world! :(
Squidmar Miniatures at the pace y’all are going its bound to happen one day 🤘
Great tutorial thanks! What is the black paste you use to cover the parts that you don't want to paint with the airbrush?

Awsome video!Really Cool
Thx so much Konrad!
New sub, and I'm glad I did. I want to improve my painting from the amateur feeling level that it has been for years. Been playing catch up in some of your older content.
Love the fiverr videos the most. I'm wanting something painted by those who are beyond me in skill level. So time to shop around with my ideas.
Glad you like my vids mate, Hopefully you can learn a lot from my vids :D ps dont forget to subscribe!
3rd time watching this and just now I see the drawn in bra om that commissioned purple/green sculpt.
10/10 did not notice first 2 times.
dude that demon commision was wicked.
I like air brush!!! 😁
Great Video guys. Looking forward to get into Airbrushing, but i dont know where to start. Can you give me some advice for that. What to look for?
Very interesting techniques. These will be fun to try out. Nice to see Miniac invaded your channel!
nice vid emil
Do you still thin down the inks used for undercoating in the airbrush?
Thank you so much for the great video! Definitely not ready to move to airbrush(mostly due to lack of space) Looking at your space at 2:37 into the video, you have your big lamp lighting your work surface. Is the overhead hanging light acting as your second light source or do you feel the Lamp is adequate for your painting needs? I found and ordered that exact lamp and love it, but I am still trying to figure out how to position it for a cross between max efficiency for lighting and freedom of movement. Thank you again for the great tutorials!
Yeah room is so dark otherwise, its a basement :)
I am super interested in this and this video has me excited, but the thing that surprises me the most is that you're doing all of this with bare hands?! Are fingerprints not an issue? It would seem not but it's really surprising.
As usual, awesome content Emil! Thoughts on ventilation/spray booth with this type of workflow?
I gotta be honest with you, never tried one and i don't really have an urge to either. :)
Regarding the last technique you showed, the airbrush glazing. I noticed when you did it on the elbows of the model, you had done a kind of small series of underlying lines to show through the glazing. Is that something you should always do when doing airbrush glazing?
If you want to have patterns like that :)
I don't have an airbrush, but if you're doing a collab with Scott, I'm 100% in.
Haha perfect! There's always things to learn i guess :D
Emil and Scott, they are so entertaining
Hi, can you please tell me how to airbrush millimeter lines with the kind of pressure you would use and something like ratio thinning, needle size etc.
To be able to spray I need to thin down my paints so much that there is no adhesion anymore. I'm tired of trying to figure it out on my own.
Two of my three fav painters!!! (Kenny is the other one)
Favourite youtuber😘
Just about to learn airbrushing in a few days, why you used the brush to make the first coats (green and pink) instead of the airbrush itself?
Awesome vid. I wanna try painting busts now. Where can I find larger scale busts for painting in the US? I have found a few but all over seas and really expensive shipping. Thanks!
When priming is it better to use a spry cab or airbrush
Anybody know the song in the background? I love it! :D anyway. Im new to painting minis, so glad I found yours vids. Very informative. Keep it up!
Hi Emil, doubt on the first base coat, when you say is a thick coat, you mean you put a lot of paint at once, or also the dilution is thick?
@Squidmar Miniaures what is the black puddy you put on the mini's while airbrushing and where may I buy some?
Now it's time for Freaky Friday meats Squidmar and Miniac. That would be high-larious.
0:04 oh yes!
