This is just what I've been needing! Thanks for making this video. I've been wanting to add some macro to my reef, but I didn't even know if it was feasible. Thanks!
This video is informative. I'm having trouble balancing the light needs for red Gracilaria and BTAs. If the light is intense enough for the BTAs, the gracilaria turns orange. I like the dark burgundy color, but it only keeps is in low light, but then it doesn't grow.
Which macro algae didn't work out in this setup and why? I think I remember you saying that you removed the caulerpa racemosa(grape), what about the blue hypnea, ulva, etc?
The racemosa worked but all melted one night so I haven't replaced it, however it did shade the bottom of the tank so I wouldn't add it again. Blue Ochtodes just faded away so I think it was outcompeted by the other species. I find ulva likes tanks with not a lot of competitors or new tanks and does not live well in mature systems
Released sugar sound like carbon dosing that feed the heterotrophic bacteria which are eaten by corals in my understanding. Quite cool if it goes like this really. 👍😃
My biggest question microalgae and clams mybe even scallops too but mostly clams. Do you know if so please let me know i want my Lava rock and clams but don't want nothing but hire alge need to know if clams will be safe. Yes I understand hire alge and microalgae are a bit different but still don't want to starve or poison my clams.
Is it possible that a mixed sps tank might work if sticking to calcifying plants/algae like halimeda, mermaids fan, shaving brushes, codium ect? Or do these need high nitrates as well?
Hi i have some ? for you if you dont minde to help :). I have tank 575 l , 3 canister filers: FX6, G6 x 2, MITRAS LX7 light marin 2 x 6 cluster, 1 fresh water LX 7 4 cluster. Dose i tpossible to run without skimer . I whant to do like lagoon tank with mangro tree growing corals and fishes
Hey, can you provide the exact kind of light you have on that tank? is it meant for a reef tank or a planted tank? I'm going to purchase the NICREW Saltwater Aquarium Light, Marine LED light on amazon for my 20 gallon long tank. Do you think this will be sufficient for soft corals and some macro algae? Thanks in advance!
I have this same tank with two of the Fluval BT LED. I have ULVA and Red Ogo and starting to introduced corals. Mostly zoas, mushrooms, xenias. I just dont know how to set the lights up. Is that something you could assist with.
I dont have issues with the app it self. Its more about suggested light settings. Like intensity, duration, ect. I appreciate any suggestions as I dont think I have those parameters set up right
I like the natural lighting

They need high nitrates too
What about growing the macroalgae underneath and putting the corals above?

This tank has a Fluval Marine 3.0.the Nicrew light will grow macroalgae and some softies. I have one and they are basic but ok
Maybe a Hardy Sps goes with macro algae, Seriatopora comes to mind
I want to build a mixed reef tank with a display fuge. What kind of macroalgae do you recommend?
In a display fuge you can have whatever you want really. It depends more on availability in your area
I have this same tank with two of the Fluval BT LED. I have ULVA and Red Ogo and starting to introduced corals. Mostly zoas, mushrooms, xenias. I just dont know how to set the lights up. Is that something you could assist with.
I believe Fluval have a video on how to use the app on their channel
I dont have issues with the app it self. Its more about suggested light settings. Like intensity, duration, ect. I appreciate any suggestions as I dont think I have those parameters set up right
Oh right I have everything on full I think
thank you for the video I've been wanting some macro algae but didn't have space for a refugium , would red ogo work well in a mixed tank ?
tangs eat it
@@EverydayAquarist ah ok ,thank you🙂 if i dont have tangs would it work
What is the scientific name of the green macro algae near the peppermint shrimp?
I heard red macro need blue light is this wrong ?
Does your tank that has a clam have any calcium based macroalgae?
That one had some Halimeda in it yes
@@EverydayAquarist No problems with Ca I'm assuming? No overcompetition?
Nope it was more nitrate and Iron competition

Which shrimp?
@@EverydayAquarist cherry shrimp I'm getting some today and it is my first time
